Don't the cops carry those beating sticks anymore?
years ago that would have been a shot across the noggin with one of them fancy clubs and lights out....
Police need unarmed combat training to a greater intensity so they wont feel intimidated by crazy naked people so easily

Breaking news: the overwhelming majority of law enforcement contacts in the US are resolved with non-lethal means.

Shocking, I know. The media, and a number of ATS members, do a wonderful job of making it sound as if you're going to be killed by law enforcement at any time, day or night.

Sorry, we're not supposed to use batons to strike the head anymore. That's considered lethal force now.

Austin transplant here. The police have long been a department with "use-of-force" practices' issues. Which is weird because Austin is AWESOME and WEIRD (our motto is Keep Austin) and while not harmless, it isn't nearly as violent/prone to violence as anyone of the other major cities in Texas (e.g Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio).

As they say, Austin is in Texas, but not of Texas.

Below is a link from the Austin Chronicle detailing its 5 year DOJ investigation.

this guy was naked and kind of dangerous but it will be interesting to see where this case goes and if the race issue will continue to be brought up as it seems black cop shoots black kid may not have the ring to it as some of the other shootings the Black lives matter group has focused on

I remember when cops carried those tonfa batons. Weird world we live in where the cops shouldn't club you upside the head for being stupid, but shooting you is acceptable.

How do you wait for backup if the guy is already charging you ?

That's when you take off the cape, do a truly magnificent veronica, and as the guy goes past you, you shout "Ole!"

Used to go to Austin a lot when we were doing designs for Motorola APRDL, it seemed like a sort of laidback hippie place with the cops all imported from LA Rampart Division or something. I couldn't figure out why they were all so hostile all the time, given the comparatively low/soft crime rates per capita.

To all those defending the PoPo's rapid use of deadly force I would like to state that from personal experience I know that there are other ways to deal with this, namely strength in numbers.

You see I used to work as a special police officer on the night shift of a gated community and we had this one guy who would come visit his mother in the neighborhood, big big guy too. Sometimes he would be all whacked out on PCP running around terrorizing the neighborhood. This has happened on more than one occasion and not once has anyone had to shoot him.

The proper response is to wait for back up which should not be far off and overwhelm the suspect with numbers until they go down and use multiple cuffs if needed. I know I've been there.

I believe another poster suggested the officer put an innocent pedestrian in between himself and the individual that charged him.

Because that makes sense.

I agree with that statement.But....the number of deaths by police officers in contacts is growing exponentially. And , what about the ones we do not hear of.That dont make the MSM ?
To say , in that statement betcha they count minor traffic violations as well.

Shocking, I know. The media, and a number of ATS members, do a wonderful job of making it sound as if you're going to be killed by law enforcement at any time, day or night.

As these types of reports get out , that feeling does not have to come from the MSM

Naked and unarmed doesn't mean he can't take the officer's weapon away.
This was probably unjustified but if someone is going for your gun they teach you to use it.

No many police forces stopped carrying them because it looked bad when an officer was seen hitting someone. In a way I think that was a mistake it gave them another option besides resorting to a gun. Tazers are not a good replacement at close range since if the suspect grabs you you both are twitching. When someone is rushing an officer all they have left is a gun. And there is no requirement for an officer to punch it out with a suspect that's only in movies.

Well you know, shooting people is safer for everybody. Sure, you may die if shot, but if you get clocked in the dome you might wind up with a concussion. God knows those are terrible
