Sorry, we're not supposed to use batons to strike the head anymore. That's considered lethal force now.

Austin transplant here. The police have long been a department with "use-of-force" practices' issues. Which is weird because Austin is AWESOME and WEIRD (our motto is Keep Austin) and while not harmless, it isn't nearly as violent/prone to violence as anyone of the other major cities in Texas (e.g Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio).

To all those defending the PoPo's rapid use of deadly force I would like to state that from personal experience I know that there are other ways to deal with this, namely strength in numbers.
You see I used to work as a special police officer on the night shift of a gated community and we had this one guy who would come visit his mother in the neighborhood, big big guy too. Sometimes he would be all whacked out on PCP running around terrorizing the neighborhood. This has happened on more than one occasion and not once has anyone had to shoot him.
The proper response is to wait for back up which should not be far off and overwhelm the suspect with numbers until they go down and use multiple cuffs if needed. I know I've been there.

How do you wait for backup if the guy is already charging you ?
Breaking news: the overwhelming majority of law enforcement contacts in the US are resolved with non-lethal means.
Shocking, I know. The media, and a number of ATS members, do a wonderful job of making it sound as if you're going to be killed by law enforcement at any time, day or night.

Don't the cops carry those beating sticks anymore?
years ago that would have been a shot across the noggin with one of them fancy clubs and lights out....
Police need unarmed combat training to a greater intensity so they wont feel intimidated by crazy naked people so easily
