Lately I've been seeing such a negative reaction to the notion of individuality, personal responsibility.

I've seen such a positive push for socialized medicine, the discussions of all the benefits of "democratic socialism", the positives attributed to not having to have control over your healthcare.

So many, here, elsewhere, have glorified the wonders of socialism. They put up other socialist countries as examples for everyone to strive to. They sneer and look down if you even bring up being responsible for your own actions.

But why stop at socialism? Why not just toss responsibility out completely!

Why just go halfway?

Just have the government own everything and have them give us an allowance. They own all housing, all vehicles, all stores, all clothing.

Then they (government) can just give it to you and we'll all be equal.

No one would have to work if they didn't want to, it'd be a country where we all would be living in our moms basement.

Just face facts. The American experiment in free market capitalism has failed. Too much government greed, too much corporate greed.

Just say, "forget it" and make the whole country a nanny-state so we won't have to worry about taking care of ourselves, or competing (because that isn't fair), or working hard, or trying to do better, or over achieving.

We can be the country of Mom's Basement and have government do our laundry.

Isn't that the logical next step when there aren't enough basements to put us all in?

We certainly could become just like Europe. Then we could enjoy the same unemployment rate as France and Greece.

Oh, wait......

"We can be the country of Mom's Basement and have government do our laundry."

If that's what you want.

By the way, we don't have a free market. The term too big to fail comes to mind.

As for the rest.... 'twas the rant.

Because going full communist isn't a very good idea, that's why. Socialism, when implemented properly, is very effective. Our taxes are a form of socialism, but they are for the most part not implemented properly.

How well has capitalism worked out so far? Not very good. We've already gone "full-retard" with the system we have in place now, what's so bad about trying something new that seems to work perfectly well in other countries?

Your question is loaded.

It's the corporate, military industrial complex that pulls the strings. How is that Socialism? It's much closer to a fascist capitalistic Oligarchy where the elite make the decisions to further profits. Free market Capitalism at it's most extreme.

a reply to: 3NL1GHT3N3D1 lets see how the European situation ends up before we declare it a success. Roman empire lasted over a thousand years. Socialist Europe has under 100 on its belt.

So did I....I'm still in business and raking in the dough. Plus being employed in a totally new enterprise...Union proud, Union strong.

But if you feel like a dumbass...who am I to argue?

So your personal situation reflects the state of our entire country right now? Hardly. We live in a materialistic, self-absorbed, selfish society in America.

Capitalism is a failure, admit it. It has bred a business ethic and political system where personal gain is valued above the greater community. Look at the candidates we have in place, they're selfish and arrogant for the most part, taking money from billionaires and dancing to the tune they play for them.

Your situation does not reflect the bigger picture that's happening in America right now. You saying "I got mine" in so many words is the kind of self-entitled, selfish attitude that has been brewing in capitalistic America for quite some time now. It's about to reach its boiling point and we're all going to get screwed over because of it.

It doesn't matter how much money YOU have saved up, other people aren't making enough money to save up to begin with today. Like I said, your situation does not reflect the current generation that is growing up in our country.

By all means, take my money because I have more than others.

Let's get this (communist) party started!
