Being a Christian in this messed up, broken world is very hard

I'm not a Christian, but even I know that you're doing it wrong.

So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell. Then the LORD said to Cain, "Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?
If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door; and its desire is for you, but you must master it.
Genesis 4:6

Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.
Matthew 11:30

So a couple of verses out of context, how soothing Windy

If anyone loves the world then they don't love the father 1 John 2 15

The costs of being a Christian are far higher than any could imagine, and that's not referring to financial costs

Suggesting the yoke is easy and light is popcorn theology, totally off track.
Jesus was referring to the Pharisees laws, in context.

Christians have a promise, the promise is not in this world, it's a promise of a better future, somewhere in the future

If I wasn't a Christian I would be able to deny all the suffering, the evil, the sin and act like so many righteous blind people around me, I could ignore it.

What's So Great About God?: Atheism vs Religion

If you're truly interested in learning and growing, watch this vid.

If. Am truly interested about learning and growing from a man who is a nutcase, who spews hate, attacks people, makes money like a tv preacher, thinks his opinion and beliefs are the only opinions and beliefs of any value, yeah thanks

This man causes hate amongst humanity.

This man is an evangelical atheist who states humanity are a bunch of animals, that we have no standards and are free to treat people as we wish
Survival of the fittest and in the fight for life, surviving is the only thing

Yeah, that's what I would want if I was a heartless monster

My issue is as a Christian my eyes are open to all the evil of this world, that as sweet as it would be to think like that man, I can't

Buzzy, you say religion is evil, this mans theology of atheism is as evil as any other religion.
Any political religious system that equates humanity as animals treat their people as animals, livestock, resources
If I wasn't a Christian I could do the same

I don't question my faith, just find it really hard to live it amongst people like the one you suggest I should accept as my teacher

Yeah, people like that man is why I hate this world, he sees people as we see dogs

No really, if you're talking about Hitchens -------- he doesn't.

But - okay - enjoy your misery. I'm sorry for trying to help.
I won't be party to the nonsense that you are self-flagellating over. You're no "martyr".

edit on 2/6/2016 by BuzzyWigs because: martyr much?

hate to say it brother, but many Christians treat "unbelievers" just as bad as dogs, if not worse...

To many you're a second class citizen if you don't believe the bible...

Christianity turns many into elitist, selfish, intolerant members of society who will only mingle with their own kind because the rest are doomed to "hell"

One is not better then the other for the most part

Dude.....you were the one who started the thread with the title "So, I hate christianity."

Is there someone holding a gun to your head to make you behave according to it? What if you simply said, "I don't subscribe to this anymore" - or "mind your own business, this religion makes me feel like crap"??????

What if you just said it?????

What, really and truly, would happen to you????

WHAT would happen?

They wouldn't have been human if they didn't at times wonder. But then their faith brought them through in the end. What ever end that may have been. For many, it was rather unpleasant.

I'm not what most would consider a Christian...not sure what I am, frankly.

I believe, but have no use in the slightest for dogma.

Yes he is
I am no martyr, I live breathe and type

Your and his help would benefit me in no way

I didn't ask for your or Hitchens help, thanks anyway

ok then.
Carry on hating yourself, and hating the way you are consciously behaving and hating the way that you feel about it. Knock yourself out......!!!!!

No skin off my nose.....

just, don't expect others to feel "sorry for you" that you chose (yes, chose) to buy into a dogma that makes you feel like crap. That's what it was supposed to do. If you honestly want out - to rewrite your personal narrative - there are people who can help you do that.

Either disabuse yourself of the emotional and mental torture (which you have imposed upon yourself by buying into the nonsense) by learning more about how you got there, or suck it up.

No whining.

Yep

Hence the thread, hence my attitude to Christianity at the moment

My attitude towards Jesus is not reflected in my attitude towards Christianity

And it does not have to be!!!!

Jesus was a coolio dude......

nothing about the 'organized' religions negates that.
Just - walk away from them. Keep your eye on the ball - what Jesus (and Buddha, and Krishna, and Ghandi, et al) taught -

I am not torturing myself
I have made a choice and accept it as the only logical option.

I am just sick of the evil around me, people both believers and non believers

The dogma doesn't make me feel like crap, the world does

It would be nice to be selfish and ignorant, I can't be

Never asked for your pity, don't want it so please carry on

Just before you do, stop look around at this world, you happy?

^^ Self-torture ^^

Your choice, your suffering.

Don't blame anyone else.

The dogma doesn't make me feel like crap,

Yes, it does.

the world does

That, too. But it's still your choice to "feel like crap."

he sees people the way you see dogs, huh? maybe the problem here is the way you see dogs. i have known many people to refer to their pets as people. its a parent child relationship, or a sibling relationship. have you ever thought about what makes those dogs and cats people, or even family? some might suggest the way you look at animals directly reflects the way you perceive your god looking at you. maybe you should do some digging.

Dogs are people, yes. So are cats. So are horses. Once you get to know them and learn to communicate with them.
What are NOT people?

Corporations.
Buildings.
Statues.
Crucifixes.

One of the misanthropic things about me is how I hate the way so many people treat animals.

Oops sorry, maybe I should have said rats, cockroaches, spiders, whatever
I like dogs, cats as well, maybe you have the issues where you see animals as more important than people, I could assume you hate refugees, Arabs, Muslims so you find it easier to love animals and dismiss feelings for others in humanity, easier to turn a blind eye to others when you value something else more important

Psychological help from a person who doesn't know me

Thanks anyway

Wow hate is a strong word, anger must be an issue in your life.

Maybe you should just lower you standards towards other people, stop being a martyr for animals

Deny your feelings, you know all that crap advice you gave me

Hitchens said we are just animals,,survival of the fittest and all, the week are destroyed by the strong, how can you complain, it's natural, scientific even, get over your preconceived ideas of what is acceptable
Stop judging others, people will like you more

Sounds like your love for animals and hate for the abusers is a form of self torture, stop the martyr syndrome

Embrace it, accept it, be what you can't, it's easy

While it's true we are animals, can you provide a source for the rest of what you claim he said?

Specifically 'survival of the fittest and all, the week are destroyed by the strong, how can you complain, it's natural, scientific even' because you're demonstrating a lack of knowledge on evolution and natural selection.....again...
