I need some help on this one because I am totally perplexed on how this happened. Is this what a chewed collar looks like?

Before leaving for work this morning, I couldn't find my house key. It fell off the key ring the night before. (This is the totally "stupid me part")

I live in a pretty big complex, lots of apartments so I think to myself, "you can leave the door unlocked, what are the chances"...once again, completely regret this..

Now here is where it gets weird...

I also have a Siberian Husky that I leave out all day.

Come home from work and find her collar severed.

Doesn't look like it has been chewed (but not ruling it out)

Nothing in the apartment is touched. Nothing is out of place.

I tried pulling the collar apart, no dice.

I cut another part with scissors, looks a little cleaner.

The most LIKELY explanation is, she chewed through it. If you look at the reflective pieces, they do seem a little chewed up.

ATS is the BEST for coming up for explanations and really need one right now. Has anyone seen a dog chew this cleanly through a collar like this? Its a Kong brand collar with nylon and para-cord.

I have seen materials like that break in that fashion usually when there is a mentallic ring, the ring cuts it if you pull from it and there is not a plastic piece to protect the fabric

I have a golden retriever, and she's a big chewer. She would go through nylon in a few hours. We buy her Kong toys, but not all of them have held up. I bought her a small tire, and she started chewing the treads off it after a couple of hours.

I don't know how your dog could chew on her collar if it's around her neck. The nylon looks like a straight cut. If a dog was chewing on it, I would think it would be more of a mangled and jagged cut. It looks more like a serrated knife could have been used to cut the collar.

thats been cut. the fraying shows signs of being cut while under pressure.

i have a husky cross Shepard, and when he breaks his bonds, it doesnt look like that!!

Looks like it was cut.

If something was even remotely important to me, I wouldn't leave it outside all day.

I cannot do a search at the moment, but those fabrics get cut if you put something hard and pull, I seen many break with carabiners, I would say your dog got stuck with something sharp ( sharp is not the best word, something hard with small area) and pulled

If anyone care to know why that kind of fabrics break so easy with something like a screwdriver and a little pressure is because the tensile strength is anysotropic due to the weave patern, but a misterious home intruder must be more appealing to you people than to think the collar got stuck on something metallic and the dog pulled

You leave her "out"? Beautiful dog. I'm surprised you still have her. Perhaps a neighbor is not impressed.

She was not outside! This was in my apartment!

I'm pretty freaked out.. someone entered my home and left a "message"

This SEEMS unlikely, but seriously... not feeling safe right now.

I have a 120 lb alaskan malamute.
He is an artist when it comes to getting off leash.
He has chewed through a lot of things, but NEVER have i seen such a straight, clean cut from him.
Either your dog knows how to use scissors or someone else did it.
Question, does he bark while your away? Maybe someone tried to let him loose.

I know if i ever had an intruder, my dogs size would have to intimidate them enough to run off.
Unfortunately, my dog thinks everyone is his best friend. And wouldnt bat an eye at an intruder as long as he got pet a couple times by them.,

Any neighbors vocal about you and your pup?

Issues with waste or excessive barking?

Possibly an unhinged neighbor sending a message? That collar was NOT chewed, it was absolutely cut.

No.. she barely barks what so ever, not even when there is someone at the door.

NOTHING in the apartment is missing... like literally nothing. Xbox is sitting in plain view, everything.

If someone DID cut her collar, it has to be a "message" and I am really really freaked out.

Thats pretty hardcore... i dont even think I would be worth the effort!

Could very well be the dog, imo. I had one that could cut cleanly through a nylon leash like that.. .the premolars (or whatever the term) are great for cutting... no message necessary.

Unless barking all day is a problem and then maybe message, I guess... .but it could be bitten through.

Her chewing through it is the most LIKELY explanation. But its a super clean cut.

You would think that SOMETHING else would be out of place... but literally nothing. Not a single thing missing.

As I said, that would be pretty a pretty high level "message" to do that. Also... to know my door was unlocked.

I mean seriously, it can't be that insane...?

That's cut ....and I would lock your doors.....your dog may bark when your gone, and you don't know it....or she got stuck and barked / shrieked and someone entered your home and cut her free? Either way, lock your door.

Looks like it was cut or perhaps it may have broken in two somehow... but it in my opinion doesn't look chewed on.

Can't tell for sure, but I'm asserting I've watched my own doggie chew through a double folded nylon leash just like that in under 30 seconds... and it looked like one blade slid down it... just like that.

Huskies are spirited guys with strong jaws... totally possible, and likely even, in this case.

eta but you can change your locks to be sure.. .and get a nanny cam? Heh, and my doggie was 35 lbs and your looks larger and it is still more unlikely a stranger would brave a dog... so ... doggie got some teeth there.
