Oregon Occupation: Man on Way to Join Bundys Threatens to Kill Officers on Camera

In a confrontation recorded on police video, the man, identified as Joseph Arthur Stetson, 54, of Woodburn, was stopped shortly before noon (3 p.m. ET) at Hines Food Market in South Hines, the Harney County Sheriff's Office said.
Man Intending to Join Oregon Protests Arrested for DUI 3:24

In the 10-minute video, the encounter starts out politely enough, with Stetson and a state trooper, who wasn't identified, calling each other "sir." Stetson was armed with a firearm, which turned out to be a pellet gun, authorities said.

Stetson tells the trooper he's a retired colonel in the U.S. military who served in Central America in 1980 — he boasts twice that his service record was "sealed by Ronald Reagan" — and that he's on his way to serve as a bodyguard for protesters led by Ammon and Ryan Bundy, who've occupied the land refuge since the beginning of the year.

But after about five minutes, as troopers and local officers move to place him under arrest, Stetson becomes agitated, referring to President Barack Obama and officers on the scene as "Nazis" in a tirade spiked with crude expletives.

"I'll kill all of you," Stetson can be heard saying on the video.

When the remarkably restrained state trooper advises him that "I don't think you want to do that," Stetson replies, "If I come out of jail I'm going to kill you."

Eventually, it took multiple officers to wrestle Stetson — who's listed in police records as 6 feet tall and weighing 235 pounds — into a police vehicle.

What a clown... These Oregon protesters just keep making themselves look dumber and dumber. Now you can argue that since this guy was on his way to the protesters he doesn't represent them. Well to that I have to say, is anyone under any doubts that the Bundys wouldn't have accepted him into the fold in a skinny minute? Of course not. He spouts the same irrational drivel that the rest of these yahoos say.

By the time this whole fiasco is over, the Bundys and their crew will be the laughing stock of the country, and likely also in jail. Since Oregon has been increasingly demanding that the federal government amp up pressure against them. The idiots on the nature preserve don't appear to have an exit strategy either. After the arsonists that originally prompted them to even START this circus disavowed them completely and went to serve their jail time with no complaints, the protesters were left without clear grievances. Yet they had to justify their insanity so now they are talking about federal land grabs.

Though that just makes them look like a bunch of whiners complaining that the government doesn't give them free stuff.

Well at the end of the day, at least this "patriot" is behind bars. It's only a matter of time before the rest find a home there. Then they can get all the free room and board they could ever ask for.

I suppose I'll have to wait to be a patriot until something will benefit me personally through monetary means.

Sup with the stolen valor crowd that exists out there?

Sealed records... sure.

Thats why you are equipped with a pellet gun my good sah?

And that is exactly what they are... a bunch of whiners who are all upset because they don't get their way. They think it means something that their great-grandpappy grazed cattle on those lands and didn't have to pay anything... driver's licenses were not required at one time, either. Times change, deal with it.

These guys are the worst of the Entitlement culture... all the time crying about how poor they are as they drive their brand new 4wd trucks around, and wanting special rights.

Sounds legit. LOL

I have yet to actually see one of these self-proclaimed "patriots" with actual military experience...seems to me that they are a bunch of wannabes that are guilty of stolen valor.

I'm not a fan of these guys, but what was he arrested for? I can't play the video for some reason, It said he was stopped on suspicion of DUI, it doesn't say anything about them breathalyzing him, or him refusing a breathalyzer, then it just says they tried to arrest him, he resisted, and he's in jail on charges of "Resisting arrest" but they don't mention why he was under arrest.

I've steered clear of these threads...
And it seems for and against are 50/50.

But there is no doubt that this individual is an idiot of the highest calibre.

And those he attempted to join, have been played for suckers by the arsonists...
"Quit while you're ahead" was always a favourite proverb of mine.

Yea, I like this new angle of whiners wanting free stuff. Since they aren't being overly violent, it's more descriptive than terrorist (though extremist can still apply). Plus these are the types that likely whine about the entitlement culture in this country so it is likely that calling them that will make them upset. But hypocrites be hypocrites. And I love pointing out hypocrisy.

In the video, the cop says, "You're under arrest for DUI right now."

When a police officer has a reasonable belief, based on facts and circumstances, that a person has committed (or is about to commit) a crime, the officer may arrest that person. This belief, known as "Probable Cause", may legally justify a DUI arrest in certain situations where strong indications of DUI are present, but administration of a chemical test is refused or is otherwise not possible.

Breathalyzer or no, the man was stopped on a suspicion of a DUI then later goes on a drunken rant that includes threatening the lives of the arresting officers. I'm pretty sure that is more than enough cause to place him under arrest there. Rants like that after having been stopped for a DUI suspicion don't exactly get cops to let you off on a warning...

It is because of people and incidents like these, that no legitimate stand against government tyranny will ever be fruitful. This makes it so easy for the government and media to convince the ignorant masses that ANY stand against the system is just more of what has happened in this scenario. The day will likely come, when Americans's wish for militia's to stand up for them, and no one will be willing, knowing they will be made a fool of, and die alone if they persist.

Resistance of any sort needs leadership. Good leadership can overcome bad press. The Bundy occupation has no leadership. It's just a bunch of yahoos with misunderstandings about how the government works and is supposed to work.

Very well said. These guys are not being oppressed in any way, they are being asked (far too politely) to adhere to the law. If they don't like the law, there are ways to try to get it changed without resorting to violence. For example, note the change in Marijuana laws that have come about recently, with no violence proposed by those wanting those changes.

These guys give everybody a bad name. When and if it happens that we in this country are faced with real oppression, not perceived inconvenience, then will be the time to consider violent revolution. So far, it is at worst (in this case) a bunch of people who didn't get their way and just can't seem to handle that. Are they 8?

Reminds me of Wayne County Sheriff Deputies posing as 13yo girls, they are bound by oath not to lie, is the FBI bound by oath to lie? Just as bad as the Secret Service.

Good grief. Yes, as one commenter put it on that website, 'Fat drunk and stupid is no way to go through life, son.' He wants immigrants to get a GED, but can't even spell education.

I wonder if good ole Mr. Stetson realizes that most of those things aren't in the Constitution?

This guy is starting to look like a mental health patient. Like when was the last time he went to a psychiatrist? Oh wait, he probably believes in a liberal conspiracy from big pharma to dope up the American populace with anti-psychotics so he likely doesn't go to them.

Jeez... I know proof-reading is all blase these days, but for crying out loud, you'd think somebody announcing a run for POTUS - especially if he loves the country as much as he claims - would at least run an eye over the announcement before publishing it.

He was married for 35 years to beautiful women? And based on the sentence structure, he was also married to a good father and grandfather.

I could go on, but it's just too painful.
