I could care less if they have BET. The point being made is that they have an entire channel devoted to their ethnicity.

They have plenty of institutions and organizations and awards and scholarships and other such things that are dependent on ethnicity. Society does not call this racist like it would if you substituted in white in place of black in every one of them.

That is the point, and I don't expect that if the blacks ever become and societal majority that those things would go away, either.

And oddly enough, or not, Darius seems more country than most in that genre lately.
The rest is just pop music with a fiddle LoL

Yes. I know. Just as BET has had white rappers/singers/actors etc...

But it's still BET. Just as CMT is still CMT.

Every genre has its outliers.

It's the old "Poor me! I didn't get picked because I'm Black"! song being played on an old broken record player.

Not surprised Spike Lee is behind this though.

You mean Fifty Shades of Black wasn't nominated?

A double standard regardless of genre.

Here's a question, If a white writer and director creates an all black movie, how am I supposed to interpret that? I want to be as PC as possible, show me the blackest way to be fair.

The guilt is killing me!

Black entertainment television

Country Music Television

you're grasping at straws

REGARDLESS all the actors nominated deserve to be nominated. I don't think any race should get pushed into a nomination because of their skin color.

"eh I think we need to get rid of one of these white actors to make is look like we aren't racist"

While they are at it, they should probably consider boycotting the NHL since the league has close to 93 percent of players who are white.

But there wont be any mention of the NBA which is composed of 74.4 percent black players.

So,, umm, what if a white basketball coach refused to attend the NBA finals because there aren't a sufficient number of white players on the teams? What do you think would happen to him?

You have to win qualifiers to get to the Olympics, not get chosen.

And if you were a NBA coach who is the employee of someone then you would probably get fired.

IDK if the gripe is real and kinda see it as petty but their issue is also about WHO chooses the nominees, who cast's the major rolls and who gets picked for them.

Fifty Shades of Grey was all over the Razzies. Maybe Spike should have counted himself lucky that he didn't get any buzz with a parody of something that bad.

Spike Lee, Jada Pinkett Smith call for Oscars boycott over lack of diversity

Chris Rock calls the Oscars the 'white BET Awards'

Calls for a boycott of the Academy Awards are growing over the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences' second straight year of mostly white nominees, as Spike Lee and Jada Pinkett Smith each said Monday that they will not attend this year's ceremony.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Lee said he "cannot support" the "lily white" Oscars.

Jada tweeted 'people of color' are rarely recognized for our artistic accomplishments. Should people of color refrain from participating all together?

I can understand why some people might get upset, but do you think this is going too far?

How is it alright for there to be racially exclusive awards (BET), but if a NON racially exclusive awards just happens to not choose Black actors, despite having done so in the past, people get all up in arms?

I thought this was suppose to be about acting, not skin color and the perception of entitlement.

I think it is ok. BET awards HAD to be created or else black actors would hardly get any nods. It has changed a little, but not enough. If it is not looking representative to the talent, then this IS necessary.

A quote I saw recently, I think it was from Trevor Noah, but I am a little tired to search was something like "Racism is f out in the open, taken care of, yet it is out in the open and running for President" . not an exact quote, but close.

Look I’m all for diversity but what does Spike and Jada want people to do vote for something that isn’t good just because it’s black?

Spike hasn’t made a movie lately or Jada that is worthy of any rewards.

Why don’t they offer some suggestions…

All that said, Hollywood undoubtedly has problems with minorities just like the whole society but the awards are awards, no great social issue.
