Who is going to watch the State of the Union tonight? Who is actually expecting a difference?

'They Just Want Me To Light Myself On Fire': How Obama Came To Hate The State Of The Union Address

Over the course of seven years, Obama's team reached the conclusion that the State of the Union is old and stale, a speech that often fails to increase the president's popularity or produce policy wins. That Obama will deliver what his administration is advertising as an unconventional address on Tuesday is no surprise to confidants. They think the traditional approach doesn't work.
From the above article

How is leaking the speech topics early and broadcasting on Amazon make for an unconventional address? Will this be a new kind of address altogether or is this just a ploy to get more people to watch the state of the union address?

Personally, I have watched the past 10 State of the Unions on youtube, so I can pause and reflect on ideas that were stated. Now, I fear most people watch the State of the Union just to find key phrases they can take out of context to prove some point they already believe to be true, but I hope I am wrong.

Is anyone already planning on watching tonight? Does anyone have ideas on how this one will stand out and be unique? Are there more people like me who will wait till they can really go over the speech to watch? And lastly, who out there thinks this is all a joke and will never watch a State of the Union?

All opinions are welcome.

The State Of The Union in 5 seconds.

Everything going well, is because of Obama.

Everything going bad, is because of Bush.

Obama is going to highlight the massive increase in food stamps since he took office.

It should be renamed the "State of the Agenda" speech.

I seriously doubt anything of substance regarding state of the union will be discussed.

Much will be made of how to continue the agenda.

While I do think you are right that Obama will take credit for all positive gains made during his presidency, I do not believe he will blame anyone for the things going bad, but instead, he offers what he feels to be constructive solutions to current issues/policies that are currently not working.

I do agree that a prewritten speech does little to address the concerns of the Union.

Perhaps the format should be changed from a speech to an open discussion between the president and the public. Put the presidents on the spot, make them think of answers on the spot and make the address the real concerns of the public.

Do you not think that the current political agenda does not directly affect the state of the union?

I don't bother watching any political speeches anymore. Same old crap. There's nothing new to be said.

Now if Obama wants to spice up the SOTU speech, I'd suggest that he get the South Park kids to do it. Uncensored of course.

It's his last State Of The Union speech.

He's been president for a while now and I've yet to hear him take the blame for anything.

He blames congress, Bush, talk radio, NRA.

Last year, ISIS was on the run and we had things taken care of in Syria.

I'll watch his speech until I get ill.

Last time I made it @ 90 seconds.

I could be wrong but you're probably gonna have to find some room for Trump in the "going bad" segment.

Come to think about it, I have never watched a SOTU speech.

I see no reason to start now. Same crap, different day. I'm sure Obama's constituents will be watching, but......that's about the only people who watch CNN or MSNBC. The idiot Trumpers will be watching the leg show on Fox, but I don't know if Fox will carry the SOTU speech; most of the Trumpers I know turn off the TV anytime Obama makes an appearance. Or they change the channel.

Now that's something I would watch. Provided there weren't just trolls in the public to ask the questions. I'd like to see the presidents put on the spot. I'd imagine Obama probably answers an unexpected question about as ignorantly as Josh Earnest. He's the worst liar I've ever seen.

lets see..year 5 of a lame duck presidency..pretty easy job really once you realize nothing is gonna get done. Make a few speeches, veto some random things, voila.

Should be called the State of Obama Address. How many times will he say "I", "Me", and "Myself" during this speech? I'm going with 40+.

Not sure whether to go with a Joe Wilson: "Liar, liar, pants on fire!" joke, or a comment on how much ratings for the SOTU address would increase if they actually did start featuring live self immolation... so I'll take the high road and say I won't be watching. There is nothing this president can say at this point that I have any interest in outside of "goodbye."

I'll watch it just to see how many lies they can fit in to that duration of time.

Just remember about Fast & Furious scandal when they start talking about guns

Politicians = Hypocrite Cretons

It's my birthday and I need some good entertainment anyway. Just ONCE is it too much to ask to have some fanatic loudmouth get past security to steal the mic in the middle of the speech? Starts chanting "trump" and then get tackled? Just some comedic relief for all this doomy, gloomy, untruthful stuff

I tend to watch them... not that I plan on it.

I think it gives the current president and his party a warm huggy feeling inside.

In no way does it reflect the actual "state" of the union.

The state of the union is kinda in chaos. We have rampant unemployment, not just because places aren't hiring, but because there is not enough places to hire everybody. That could probably go back to the Republicans giving tax breaks to move jobs overseas to increase profits.

The number of job openings in America is high, but for highly skilled people. We don't have those people because our schools are ranked low in the world. I feel our schools are ranked low because all the different languages people speak. We cannot come to terms with English as our national language. Our schools will continue to suffer.
Watch the highest ranking nations decline with the influx of immigrants. just based on language barriers.

Gun control: a hot topic these days. The president was in tears speaking of victims of mass shootings and wanting laws to curtail those. Now without doing any research, I am guessing most those victims were white. 100 people shot this year already in just Chicago, again no research but assume most were black... no tears for them.

Income inequality... fracking... gmo's.... lobbyist owning politicians....

Speak on those issues and you will have spoken of the state of the union.

Speak not of those and we get a huggy feely speeech.
