So the other day in my Mass Effect thread, 7 Days To Die was brought up and I felt like loading it up yesterday. There had been some hefty updates to the game that I had yet to see.

Been some big changes, the UI (User Interface) being one of them!

The Crafting UI has changed quite a bit too.

One significant gameplay change is how the environment now affects your player: If it's cold outside, and especially if you get wet, your core temp goes down....which is not good for you of course. Better get some clothes on! They've added heavy coats to the game for that.

Opposite of that is being in places where it's very hot (desert biome) or near your cooking fires, your core temp goes up, and again, not good for your guy.

Lots of texture changes. Instead of the farm house looking all boring blue, it's now a very worn out white with peeling paint!

Changes inside too to the textures.

The zombies have changed quite a bit too, both in appearance and behavior:

Killing them is a lot harder, and don't depend on a body shot taking them down anymore. I found, to my horror, that they tend to get back up off the ground and come at you some more! Yikes!

Here is a video I did yesterday on this. More will follow as I discover more changes (there have been a lot):

Other changes I've noted so far:

You no longer need the Forging Book to learn how to build a forge....however, they've added components you need to build one.

Some forge recipes require an anvil, tool and die set and calipers.

Looks like the AK-47 has been added to weapons.

You can no longer use the toilets as a water source (yah, I know, gross). They are instead now storage things....you can imagine what you find in there (again...gross).

If you dig a single box well and dump water into it, it does not last forever. 15 jars will empty it, forcing us to find different sources of water.

They've added a hazmat suit.

They've added a mobile spot light.

They've changed the behavior of the zombies when they die too, some stagger about before falling.

Head shots can remove the heads......and sometimes the zombies stagger about headless.

You can no longer repair a weapon who's schematic you've not read yet.

There are chickens in the game now. Do not know if you can farm them for anything yet.

New sound effects when walking over debris.

New type of tea: Red Tea that lowers your body's core temp.

Still exploring and learning new things. I'll update this thread as I find more.

Really, this try of a game is so outdated, boring 3D 24/7 Tower defense game with many long time not fixed bugs, a little bit of crafting and no survival feeling, but boring and outdated zombies. Plus ugly graphics.
Typicall Early Access Hobby Devs mess.
Was last playable with fun around A6-A7.
Installed it again after waiting endless times for A13, thought maybe it becomes better again, but it was not worth. Almost nothing of the things TFP promised in the beginning, to beg for money, isn´t implemented yet, or even cancelled.

But with games like 7 Days to Die, Beasts of Prey, ARK, Starforge, Planet Explorers, Reign of Kings, Stranded Deep, The Forest, Out of Reach and some more, i had to learn the hard way that it is better not to buy the pig in the poke!

Last hope for an Early Acces "survival" game to become finished and playable with fun is Empyrion!

I'm glad you found a game you like.

I on the other hand try not to be so critical. If I did, I wouldn't be able to enjoy so many things, and life would suck.

Having been on the Dev side of things for a lot of stuff is most likely why I try not to be to critical of things.

I haven't tried 7 days to die but the look reminds me a lot of Rust. Rust was quite possible the funniest game I have ever played, hackers aside.

Nothing quite like murdering your fellow wasteland surviver for all he is worth. The game play was down right evil but so so so addictive.

Seems like a knock off of Day Z

Has DayZ come that far along as far as crafting and base building? I've not played DayZ since it went standalone. If it's anything like it was when it first went standalone, 7 Days is way ahead of it.

At any rate, I enjoyed the A13 update. It brought some much needed updates to the game. Now, if only they could get it optimized.

I'm loving the new changes myself.
The character creation was a welcome addition but could use a little more alteration capability in the facial area.
The temperature addition is challenging! I tend to play hardcore(sp) with this game(and only this game) meaning the first death I get is IT up to a certain point. (there are exceptions) The temp aspect makes this MUCH harder, but in a good way.
I love the new zombies. They're a refreshing change from what we've seen for a long time and scarier IMO. And they GET BACK UP...
And the crafting system has gone off the charts in awesomeness. Big improvement, again IMO.

Got any good server suggestions guys?

Emp is finished? gotta reload it and check it out. last time I played it was a clunky mess quite awhile back.

I kinda agree with you on 7 days..its ok, but overall not very streamlined yet.

Ark however is damn fun. get a good group together and it becomes pretty amazing. I got many a story from that game, although its still buggy and even with tons of creatures, it still feels a bit empty of diversity..map is also too small. needs to double to triple in size, or have equal sized islands nearby you can sail to.

Water source is going to be a problem.

Only continuous sources are rivers, lakes and pounds.

Core temp: not realistic. We're mammals, not reptiles. While yes, long term exposure can change your core temps (normally resulting in very severe conditons, IE Heat Stroke, Hypothermia, etc), wearing a heavy coat when it's 53 deg F is not going to cause you to have heat exhaustion.

Looks like they need to work on that.

Other problem: No air drops. I've got it set to 1 a day, but I'm not seeing or hearing them. Hope they've not broken that again, they just got it fixed.

The game has changed immensely since the first Alpha I played of it, which was A4. I am really looking forward to what it'll be like when it's actually released! And, I have full confidence that it will -actually- be released. Unlike many Early Access games.

The developers of this game are very communicative, they listen to their community, there are constant updates and fixes. I am confident in them. I'm not a fan of Early Access games, I prefer "Build it, then deliver it!" maybe a Beta access for a few to get into everything and try to break it so that it's pretty much perfect upon release. But not -all- Early Access games are doomed to failure.

In my partner and I's latest venture into 7 Days To Die a couple of weeks ago, we were fairly chuffed at the amount of change since the last time we had played and had quite a few laughs and hilarious deaths. The game likes spawning us in Desert Biomes, and it's near impossible to cool down. I ended up finding a water tank, crazily beating it to pieces, and dancing around in the glorious water that spewed forth.

We also made a cave base, and discovered a new zombie that looks like the girl from The Ring that was actually trying to dig through the mountainside to get to us. Scared the heck out of me! They can dig!

And I was pleased at this description

Okay, there are air drops.

Spotted a plane, because I happen to be looking in the right direction when it spawned, and it dropped the supply crate with smoke signal.

Heard no SFX though. Might have been because of how far away it was (it was way, way far).

Meat: I was wondering if this was nerfed again, but no, they just changed it is all.

Now you MUST have a hunting knife! You equip it and start wacking away at your kill, it will produce the meat and skins.

I just made a 3rd video....I'm in the middle of a plains biome.......next to the deer I killed with raw meat on the ground....it's dark. My miner's cap doesn't work..........and I'm hearing zom-zoms all around me........

Great....just great.....

I'm pretty sure you can get water from toilets. You have to boil the water first else risk disease and need goldenrod tea. But if it hasn't changed, it's a source.

Nope. Not anymore.

You'll see it in one of my videos. The toilets are now like storage containers. You can not get water from them anymore.

I just hit the jack pot!

Okay, I thought about the water situation, and other than setting up near a source (river, lake, etc), I did think about a snowy biome, of course it'll be cold as hell, and you'll need to have warm clothes pronto, but.....you can still melt the snow for a water source, and of course in that biome, there is plenty of it!

However, my jackpot comes from a random map. I was on day 4, wandering all over the place, and not finding ANY bodies of water. This was really concerning me because it means this is a real PITA.

The map has random houses all over the place, many interesting looking ones, but I wasn't running into any townships.

Finally I did, and what a township! It's got stores, book stores, houses, etc (but not the big mega cities that are chock full of the zombie hoards, wasps, cops, etc).

Better yet: THIS township has one of those fancy houses you find on the Navigene map that has (drum roll) a swimming pool in it's back yard!

Finally! A water source!!!

Also, all the shops and other houses to loot!

It's a random gen map. Used the map seed "walkingdead" without the quotes, no caps and run together.

The location of the township is at: 1812 S 480 E (that's actually the position of the house with the pool).

Just in case any of you who have the game want to give it a try.

I'll post pics tomorrow (and more videos after I upload them tonight while I'm asleep).

I won't be here over the weekend though, as I'm going camping with my son and the Boy Scouts.

So here are two more vids I did looking at things.

This first one is going into more of the changes, such as the lack of using the toilets as a water source, or trying to make a well who's water never ends:

The second one here, I created a random map to take a look at some of the changes there. Lot's of random houses on this map, and many of them have been changed around, not the same ol' same ol'. There was a distinct lack of water bodies (rivers, lakes, etc). My guy was also getting over heated even though all he was wearing was jeans and a tank top...with the outside temp being 72 deg F. Yah, they really need to work on that:

Here are some pics of the township I finally found on the random map that I described in my post above:

Fancy house with the pool in the back yard:

The pool:

It's a very large township with all sorts of different stores in it:

And like I said, if the pool ever runs out of water, there is a snow biome on the other side of the township:

Does this game have people that act like bandits and other people team up like day z? I've never played this game before but I like what I saw in your first video. I ask because that was made day z appealing to me, the idea that people interact realistically with one another in the game scenario. I always wished there were zombie hordes and large herds of them as well. Does this game have that at all, large hordes that would be impossible to fight off etc?

There are servers you can play on, or even set up your own server. Done that for me, my wife and son.

Yes, you can do the PVP thing on other servers, nail people, take their stuff, etc.

The hoards: this has a lot of depends on it because it depends on how you set your game up. The level of zombie spawning ranges from Disabled, meaning no zombies and it's just all survival mode, to Insane (meaning get ready to die, spawn, die, spawn, die spawn). So you can try the different levels of spawning and see what you like.

Hardness of play: this is also one that has setting for Very Nooby to I'm Am Death Incarnate, and directly affects how hard it is to kill the zombies.

You also can change things like length of day light, how often (if ever) air drop supplies happen, how often loot respawns, how aggressive the zombies are, whether they can run or not, and how long they remember you (IE a zombie saw you and starts to come after you. You duck into a house to hide, and after a time of not seeing you the zombie will wander off....I've got my set to 60 seconds, but you can shorten that or make it longer).

Roaming Hoards: These spawn on certain days and vary in how bad they are and what types of zombies are there. I've seen hoards that were like: Aw, not too bad, we can handle this.......to ......OMG! WE'RE GOING TO DIE!!!!!
