As most of the members here will be a little groggy after last nights festivites I thought I would amuse myself and use the way back machine to see what was happening here a decade ago today.

It is amazing how far the world of conspiracy and alternative media has come and how much the site has changed.

web.archive.org...

Two things that instantly suprised me were the David Icke and Jon Titor forums!

Skipping forwards I took a look at the site 5 years ago to the day.

web.archive.org...

This is how I remember the site when I first found it. It was interesting to remember what was considered plausable even 5 years ago and how our perceptions have changed.

Finally I took a look at a single year ago to the day.

web.archive.org...

I can remember most of the big threads from a year ago and some of them are still going now.

EDIT: My links do not seem to be working directly?

Here is a link to the wayback machine link

I cannot link directly to the pages, not sure if anyone can figure out why?

Hmmm, not just me then?

Maybe a mod can help?

ATS started out as just another government conspiracy/area 51 site back in 1999.
Sort of an obvious Rex84 meme foisted on the internet community after Waco in 1993(for the older members that remember..)
As part of my New Years reflection I was wondering if ATS could experience a Renaissance?

I thought it would be an interesting topic to look and see how far our understanding and attitudes towards some things have changed.

Titor for instance had his own forum yet now you are ridiculed for even mentioning him, It is the same with Icke.

Links fixed for you.

"http://" twice in a link won't work.

Enjoy!

It was actually started and registered about half a mile away from me.

I bet most people assume it was started in the US.

I did.

Thanks for sharing this.

This is so cool to look at!

I first came here almost five years ago....
funny to see how different the layout is now - and so many of the same topics....

Thanks! (Oh, and I'm not groggy - I took a hot bath, laid down in front of the roaring fireplace and fell asleep at about 9pm).

Looks like we got's ourselves a lurker

11 years and only 105 posts?

Do you remember any of the actual threads from back then?

What brought you to the old ATS if I may ask?

I am suprisingly chipper and I figured it may be a slow day so thought I would make the thread.

I was so intent in celebrating the new year I forgot to eat, drank a dozen beers and fell asleep at about 9pm

What was it that bought you to ATS? I take it you remember the 2011 version well?

Lol,yes I am a huge lurker. Always figured I'd keep my opinions to myself
Never bothered to even give myself an avatar.

As to what brought me to ATS, like most of us I always felt something wasn't right in this world. 9/11 was the icing on the cake for me.

I don't remember any specific threads. There was a lot of Nibiru/2012 crap and a lot more UFO threads back then. Seems Nibiru is now taboo on this site

I was brought here by a strange behavior of a compass I came across while sorting through a can of old junk...
the compass was pointing East.

When I went online to see if this was some paranormal thing, I found ATS.

I recall the display, yes, but it seems so "dated" now to look back at it!!

Interesting look-see into the past! It seems ATS has refined well over the years. Some classic conspiracy theories have kind of been relegated to either side of "we've been through this" - some because we've clearly worked out their hoaxiness/wrongness, others because we're at the current limit of knowledge except for someone coming up with a different perspective/new information. In other words, we've sifted through a lot of what used to travel occasionally in books, more often in whispers.

Occasionally there's complaints about how we've become focused mostly on current events, but i think that's a good thing. Sometimes they relate to old conspiracies. Sometimes there's new information. And there's always room for covering the old stuff too.

Did you make a thread about it, it would be an interesting read.

I can remember there was a little backlash with the new site and people that were stuck in there ways but looking back it is much better now.

i came to ats back when serpo was the thing. I'd been out of paying attention to any of that but got sucked right back in lol.

I actually don't remember the site looking like the first link though.
