This video brings up some valid points about immigration. It's only 6 minutes long.

Mega Corp. doesn't want more legal immigrants because they'd rather pay people two dollars a day to work in foreign countries than here. Illegal immigrants here and abroad are enslaved to work for next to nothing, so corporations don't have to pay fair wages, taxes or unemployment insurance on legal citizens.

Its a scam to keep profits up and wages down. They still sell the marketed goods here for full retail, even though some dirt poor person with bear feet made those Nike shoes in a factory with a dirt floor for fifty cents an hour.

So, OP, how do you feel about the video? What are your views on the matter? Do you refute anything they say?

You need to add a little more to the thread!

Well they do have an obligation to keep their shareholders happy.

Just throwing this out there to see what sticks. I'm more interested to see what others here think. But I will say that I think the money we spend on them here would be better spent on building up their infrastructure and way of life and probably lessen their desire to immigrate.

What do you think?

Pretty good video. It really shows how futile the billions we spend already, the immigrants that the West absorbs, don't help the rest of the world.

For those who can't watch, roughly 5.5 billion of the worlds population earn less than the average income of Mexico's population....or something to that effect. Letting immigrants in from countries like India, Africa, Asia etc. harms those countries because those immigrating are the wealthiest, smartest and possible 'movers and doers' in their respective countries. It also harms the countries accepting the millions of immigrants by stretching thin their [natural] resources.

The countries which are being left behind are not benefiting at all by losing fellow countrymen/women. It would be better to help the poor countries with infrastructure and ideas that would benefit the populations as a whole.

That's my take on it anyway. It was a good practical demonstration video without drama or agenda. What some people call good common sense.

Decent video...visual aids always help justify a point. Offers no solutions but helps people understand the true problem with immigration. Until these countries stop breeding like catholic rabbits the problems will never be solved no matter how much money is pumped into the other countries infrastructure.

Human history consists of non-stop immigration.

Todays problems aren't due to immigration as such but rather the causes and driving motivations behind the immigration.

Lol they aren't enslaved. If $2 isn't enough they could always..leave for some other place..But they are getting more than that which is why they stay.

Oh, I mean the billions of gumballs in foreign countries. According to the lecturer in the video, there are billions of people that earn less than 2 dollars a day. US countries moved overseas in part to exploit that slave labor force.

In this country they also exploit illegal immigrant labor to do our dirty work. One example from the movie, Food Inc.

You mean keep greedy people happy? Greedy people at the top are never happy.

Its probably huge international corporations that made them so impoverished in the first place. I see from your intro thread you are about my age, lifelong career, raised a family successfully, you must remember what used to be called Banana Republics, talk about exploiting little foreign countries.

How about NAFTA?

I can see from your replies you're kind of new to certain not so main stream ideas. Fasten your seat belt, you're in for a ride. Welcome to ATS.

This. And failed governance thanks to neoliberal BS in combination with consequences due to wealth distribution. This is just the beginning, to deny the roots of our real problem would be rather ignorant.

Let 'em take part in this game, all of 'em. We actually need them in our overaged western societies (like Germany). This sums it all up rather nicely:

That would be a better use of the money, but it still wouldn't be a solution. Working with governments, and helping them to resolve the issues that cause the poverty, would be better. We wouldn't have to spend anything like we do now for that.

I watched this happen in a town where I once lived. It was backwards, country, and poor.

Most of the parents were hard workers that wanted nothing but a better and easier life for their children.

I look back at the amazing number of children that left that town, went away to school, got great jobs, and never returned home.

For the children that didn't make it out, most became alcoholics, and drug addicts. The town continues to go to seed, and the old folks sit around and talk proudly of their family members that made it and, bragging on their possessions, and accomplishment.

Meanwhile back on the farm everything goes to dust.

I often wonder if it may have been better, and if it would have been of greater happiness and benefit, if those children had returned home, and used their gifts to grow their own homes and town.

Running away in search of a better life is easier, but is it really better in the long run?
