These arguments are essentially what destroy socialism.

either give everyone universal healthcare no strings attached or private healthcare.

This will get ugly.

There are so many things to discriminate on. smoking, drinking, job occupation, age, weight, height, gender, unprotected intercourse, abortion, gynocologist, mentally disabled, physcially disabled, race, culture, SES, geographical location, medical history.
We will devour ourselves. create community mandatory health rec halls with weekly check in.
This beast will combine the prog urge for equality and the conservative urge for proportionality.

If you don’t want the government snooping then get private healthcare then?

Why should the tax payer foot the bill for druggies, Smokers and fatties?

One thing I get pissed off in the UK is tax money funding self-inflicted health problems
what about idiots that climb rock faces or mountains, parachute out of perfectly good planes, surf, skate, skate board, bungee jump, snowboard, snow ski, water ski, motocross, bicycle, drink beer, wine, booze and on and on? these behaviors involve risk or are harmful to health. why should we pay for any of their medical costs or even insurance risks?

in fact since everybody does one or more behaviors that increase medical risk or costs why should anyone's bad behavior be subsidized?

There are no liens, levies, or criminal penalties for failing to pay the fee.

The IRS is law unto itself and can do opposite of what law stipulates. Ask the poor taxpayers who have suffered the wrath of a disgruntled IRS auditor.

See? This is a fantastic post......

why do you have to be so contrary?

I feel exactly the same way about not wanting to buy into the military-industrial-petrochemical-transnational-corporate thing. And yes, the "elitists" need to contribute, rather than just always taking.

I understand the Mom.......

why should anyone who eats British or Scottish "food" have health subsidies?

and why shouldn't such risky detrimental behavior be taxed or made illegal since the tax payer has to pay for the consequences?

I just saw your earlier post....and was about to respond.

So......what is it that you do? Sit in an armchair at your desk all day? Swill coffee, and smoke cigarettes and eat Cheetos?

Disinfect every surface every 10 minutes (or more often if the window is open)? (That is, of course, if you ever open the window at all.....)
Do you ever go (or have you ever gone) for a hike? Swimming (in a lake, or the ocean, or a pond)? Camping? Ever go on a road trip? Plane ride?

Do you ever have a beer? Do you ever walk across the street, or get into your car?

bleh.

I may totally be misinterpreting what you meant as sarcasm.....and if I am, I apologize for being snarky.
If I am not, well, then please explain to me how you think people should not be allowed to experience life in all its glory......
just because 'shareholders' in insurance companies might not profit to the max.....

Please explain that.

those activities are all illegal comrade! They were made illegal for your own good. That and so that we don't have to pay the price of insuring your selfish desire to have fun.

Page 156 of the pdf says that not getting your annual flu vaccine is a factor as well. The way it reads, if you're completely healthy but don't get the vaccine, then that one factor alone can kick you out of the program...

So, then...I guess you were being facetious. Sarcastic. Snide. Dismissive. Arrogant.
Maybe you thought of it as "ironic" or "ironical," or "funny."

Ok. Whichever it was, I guess I need to go read more of your posts to decipher it.
No worries - same thing happens to me from time to time.

Sarcasm and humor are really hard to get across sometimes.

Excuse me. What did I type that was contrary?
I was simply pointing out that if we didn't spend billions on warfare we could all have the best health care in the world, including our vets, who were promised health care as part of the deal for signing up. I'm really contrary to using my tax dollars to kill people that have never done anything to our country. I'm contrary to having my all my health information on the net for any good hacker to access. I'm contrary to having the government tell me that I must purchase health insurance so I pay the fine for being an outlaw. I pay the government a few hundred bucks to avoid paying the insurance company several thousand.

I couldn't even begin the count the number of times I've endured a lecture from a former smoker who has put on an extra 40 or 50 pounds since quitting. For years, I simply nodded politely but as the lectures became attacks I've become prone to point to their gut hanging over their belt and reply, "The tobacco police are going to need jobs when all us smokers are gone. I'm thinking they will transform into the fat police."

Huh. Well, since we agree on that, too, but you still disdain and disrespect me, I don't know what to tell you.

I was willing to find more about what we have in common (I think there's quite a bit), but your refusal to meet halfway has snuffed that entirely. Enjoy your superiority.

Well you aren't the only one who has the special priviledge of demanding that they get to decide who is worthy of health care and who isn't, now are you?

I guess us smokers, fatties, drinkers, couch potatoes, sugar addicts, salt likers, bacon slobs etc will all to vote too.

And it seems to me that there are enough of us to vote YOU off!

Tired of Control Freaks

You can still do as you please, you just can't expect me to pay for it. If you want to smoke and drink and become obese, by all means, go for it. But when the medical bills show up, YOU write the check out of your OWN account. Leave me out of it altogether.

I work for a large company in Michigan and they are giving us a IRS form telling us how much our insurance is worth but we WILL NOT NEED IT THIS YEAR! but keep it for future use by the IRS. So are they going to backdate taxing us on our insurance??

You don't need it this year but be sure to keep it!! Mine should say $0.00

Hummm.

It could pertain to the cadilac taxes coming up in the future

the cadilac taxes are needed for the aca to become revenue neutral. everyone hates it. The unions have delayed it a bit in order to carve themselves out a bunch of exemptions but eventutally it will swallow up a lot of good health care insurance and push a lot more people onto the bad insurance.

You're not paying anything for me. I pay my health care costs when they are incurred. I don't buy insurance because the companies want something just south of $10k to provide insurance for me. On top of that, they want me to spend another $5k on a deductible before they must begin paying out. So, I just put that much cash in an account and from that account I pay my medical expenses and the fine for not buying medical insurance---and still have a nice pile of cash left over at the end of the year.
I'm healthy. I was in the health care racket for several years. I make a concerted effort to keep myself healthy. I smoke a few ciggies a day. I drink a bit of wine from time to time. I eat healthy foods and keep my weight down and my exercise levels up and try to avoid all contact with mainstream medicine. (They kill more people each year in the US than terrorists!)
So nope, you don't have to pay for my health care. My Beloved and I worked for our living, lived frugally and saved our money for retirement so we wouldn't have to depend on others for our Golden Years. That's the way we were raised and the way we raised our kids. You won't have to pay for their health care either since they're productive citizens with good jobs as well.
