Embarrassment
made me laugh with nerves when I unfortunately dropped one in a chemistry lecture, though I tried not too the discomfort and disgust of those around
me whom were passing accusatory stare's at one another made it erupt though I was profusely apologetic, oh this was about 27 years or so ago and I am
still ashamed of it, the lecturer actually evacuated the classroom, I had dined on a particularly rich and exotic meal the previous night and it
created a smell unlike anything I have ever encountered before or thankfully since.
But when you are in a lift (elevator) and it happens don't automatically assume it is the large guy with the paunch as it is often the little old
lady with the small dog whom keep's a still and expressionless face.
Now a more serious answer, Methane or swamp gas is often the product of rotting vegetation and other organic material and can when mixed with other
trace gases such as sulphur (bad egg' smell) have a rather nasty wiff to it so is it a green space and also is there a nearby sewer hatch of manhole
cover, drainage channel, stream or similar as that may be the culprit.
As for paranormal well bad paranormal smell's have been reported often especially in cased classified as Demonic possession and haunting and one
encounter I had with what I believe to have been a paranormal entity was accompanied by a strong and revolting odour of rotting fish.
