You're kidding right?

Every time someone buys large quantities of fertilizer in Kansas it sets off alarm bells now thanks to McVeigh. There are just some things that will cause concern.

Whether you like it or not, having men of Middle Eastern descent ask to do things no one in their right mind asks (take a boat tour of a dam in the middle of winter), is going to set off alarm bells.

Had locals in Cali acted on their own suspicions, San Barnardino might have been averted, but the locals were cowed by folks like yourself screaming at them to not be racist or Islamophobic so they sat on their thumbs. Now they are going to spend the rest of their lives wondering if they might have the blood of those 14 people partially on their hands. Not to mention, they will likely be called to the Marquez trial and that could drag on for up to a decade.

I know this from a familial experience with the McVeigh and Nichols trials and OKC bombing.

So just leave people alone.

I 2nd guessed that sentence as I wrote it. ha so I can't blame you for saying that. The FBI frequently has a hand in "foiled" terrorist attacks by suggesting scenarios and offering to supply the needed materials for the attack...

So they are NOT always white knights riding in to save everyone and do good for the world.

Maybe this is a completely fictitious story, but if there really were men asking about renting a boat to look at the dam up close... I'm not familiar with the dam or tourist attractions available out there but it doesn't sound like a typical question anyway

It's December in MO. It's cold out on the water.

No one is going out there for pleasure.

I live in Missouri and own a lake house about 2 miles away from Bagnell Damn. Not concerned, and I posted stories about the cell phones and propane tanks. It's a legit tourist attraction. Maybe these guys just got to America, were in the area, and want to see the damn... Me and a buddy from work are going out fishing on that lake this weekend. Yes, it's cold, boating is still fun.

I live in Missouri. Not to far from truman dam. The military activity around this area has increased quite a bit in the last 3 weeks or so. Watched 2 apache choppers circle the dam for quite some time the other day. Also several low flying a 10s on an almost daily basis. I won't leave the house without my 9mm anymore.

Nice scenic overlook exists for bagnell dam as well as hwy54 travels along the top of dam 10 feet above the water level. Plus there are nice views from various spots along both sides. There is absolutely no possible reason for middle eastern foreign men to be on a boat anywhere near the dam . if they were simple tourists they would be more than satisfied viewing it from these locations without a cold boat ride in December...this whole situation stinks and I pray the gov and alphabet agencies take notice and monitor it accordingly. Catastrophic can't describe the damage and loss of life any breach of this dam would cause..

i am non-plussed by all the bold assertions of intent and motive permeting this thread - generally along the lines :

" no one goes boating in december "

further - i am just wondering why anyone thinks a boat recce would assist any attempt at a terrorist attack on Bagnell Dam

Well, simple explosives would have Zero affect on the Dam, probable wouldn't even chip surface...We don't have artillery rounds laying around like what they use as IEDs in the middle east, So anything that could do any significant damage would draw serious attention if stolen or purchased and the feds would be right on it
Bagnell like Stockton, i'm sure, has 100% Surveillance systems in place, as these are targets of interest to Scumbag Terrorists

Depth charges might cause some mischief? Lake view photos might show weaknesses or direction?
Doesn't matter..Just causes negative Suspicion

A boat load of ammonium nitrite floated into the dam would do much more than chip it. Look what happened in Oklahoma from a van load.. With the recent events I can't believe there's any doubt . underestimating the enemy is a mistake that can't be made. I'm sure people didn't believe terrorists could hijack four jumbo jets at the same time either.....

Perhaps 10 - 20 propane tanks, rigged with a cellphone detonator might do more than scratch it...then let gravity and nature take its toll. Didn't I read a story a few days ago of just this sort of thing being stolen from a business, Walmart I believe?

Yes, let's all take the South Park LEO's advice......

All without a proper containment vessel..Wake up smell the doom porn it's xxx rated and stanky . pray the gov sits up and follows through to keep all of us in the herd safe

Worth reporting and having authorities investigate? Absolutely

Or should they ignore it and hope it's nothing, or take the law into their own citizens hands and apprehend and interrogate these guys themselves? Hmmm...which approach is the least reactionary?

Lol, propane tanks would have no affect, nor would an Oklahoma City Bomb..Dams are not soft targets, and have Deep Thick Walls that are steel Re-enforced. It would require drilled and Shot like a Rock Quarry, or something Extreme like a missile like what was used on the pentagon

The more I research Islam, the more pieces of the puzzle come together when trying to understand the Muslim mindset. It's a sin to call out other Muslim's sins. Or at least, frowned on. I've found various texts in the Qu'ran to support this. It's eerily similar to the code of conduct behind the police's blue wall.

That's the typical response from most people, mind your own business, keep your head down, avoid any type of confrontation. There is a popular stereotype for the opposite, it's little old Betty who is nosing into everyone's business on the block.

You do not need to blow it up (like the OKC building). You only need weaken the structure...then, let the massive pressures of the water behind it to work its slow yet relentless movement into those cracks. And even if it did not severely affect the structure, the thought of that possibility would induce FUD into the community.

This FUD might be even more powerful that having the dam breached...since it demonstrates the possibility, and will require more $$ to repair, protect, and more regularly inspect it over time. That cost alone would weaken the economy and has potential to raise the taxes to help pay for that need.

My comic comment still applies to those that do not think temporally in these situations. It is a 4 dimensional problem folks.
