I know I'm not the only one who has noticed this because several other posters have said as much, but given the recent tone in American politics we have been getting a lot of posts that are really nothing more than racist, bigoted, hate posts. I'll avoid linking to specific threads to avoid calling members out but in the past couple weeks we have had the following opinions professed, and not get rebuked by members but rather just the opposite and cheered.

Calling for the complete genocide of all Muslims.
Calling for special Muslim ID's.
Demanding the deportation of Muslims.
Support for a university that encourages students to carry guns to kill the Muslims if they show up

and so on.

Like clockwork, every day when I wake up and check this site there is a new anti Muslim thread, and each day they are growing in intensity.

I realize there's a line to be drawn between letting people speak their minds and speaking on something that's topical but it's out of control. When you get threads made that just state things like "x% of Muslims in the US want to kill you and institute Sharia Law" it's not topical, it's not speaking of the situation in terms of the political climate. It's just trying to spread hate and fear.

I'm not quite sure what I'm asking be done about this, but I think the drug topic is handled well in that it asks the subject to be related to legality rather than personal use. Perhaps something similar is in order here. If you're going to make xenophobic rants, they need to be tied to the subject rather than advocating for a genocide all across the Middle East by using tactical nuclear weapons on Muslim cities. Or instituting religious purity tests to weed out the Muslims in America.

Just ignore it. I walked off from my bigoted brother on turkey day walking back to my place in the pouring rain in loafers that gave me calluses. Damned worth it.

Personally, I see no difference between now and when I joined.

Couple of Alert threads have been made saying there will be a crack down on hate speech...
But I haven't seen that either.

It could make or break ATS in the long term.

I think you are exaggerating. I have been on ATS everyday this week, and although there are a few that are "mad and don't want to take it anymore", the majority seem to just be voicing strong opinions.

Speaking out against radical muslims is not muslim-hating.
Identifying (legally, not with a registration or mark) radicals within our midst is common sense and should be done by law enforcement through proper legal channels just like they did with Farook's father and neighbor this week.
Identify them...nothing wrong with that.
I haven't seen anybody call for the blanket deportation of all muslims. If a poster did that, I missed it.

And as far as the university advising their students to carry, I am 100% in agreement. If shooters show up on that campus, those young adults should be able to take them out. I listened to the interview of the university prez and he said it was for students 21 and over and responsible. Nothing wrong with that....you know, the 2A?

What I'm referring to isn't free speech. I'm referring to posts that are outright calling for violence against Muslims. Whether that's our military invading them, politicians putting them in camps, people carrying guns for the express purpose of shooting them, and so on. This board has plenty of law abiding Muslims, they've been targeted too for believing in the same God as a group of psychos. Sorry, but that's not right, free speech stops when you use it to call for mass killings.

In fairness, many of these threads are being deleted, but since new ones keep popping up those deletions don't count for much.

Agreed. A quasi culture of class is what used to separate ATS from the rabble.

If nothing is done, ATS will end up being another xenophobic paranoia conspiracy site but with a flashy look. When people google topics and see ATS threads come up, they make their opinion of the membership and the sponsors by what they see.

What do they think will happen when prospects see the site has been overtaken by ugly hate speech and slurs? It just makes us all look like a Youtube comments section.

Is there a question in this OP pertaining to board business and questions? It sounds like the OP disagrees with a lot of posts around here and would like to see some action, involving banning members and threads etc based on what the op deems 'unacceptable' on these boards.

I trust the mods have been doing just fine. I for one, appreciate that people are allowed to have their own opinions without ATS accusing them of being hateful and bigots and racists etc when some members merely voice their opinions on a whole host of topics.. Only one side of the current political spectrum does that sort of thing as of late, and I personally find it trashy and lacking in any semblence of class..

I'm glad ATS has chosen to remain balanced instead of being one-sided and hateful as the OP so clearly thinks those with opposing opinions are.

Events in Paris, California, London, etc. have brought emotions to a boil. Opinions are still valid, no matter how much people may disagree.

Sure you have. Just the other day you called people "wingnuts", and when I responded with the equal but opposite term "libtard", my post was removed (yours wasn't), I received a warning, and I was informed that "libtard" (if caught by a mod) would result in a warning every time.

So see, they are cracking down on hate speech, they're a bit selective and unbalanced with the criteria, but cracking down none the less.

You need to quote specific examples of people 'calling for violence against muslims' then alert the mods if that's really the case. If you don't alert the mods, how do you expect them to do anything about it?

Furthermore, if you don't have specific examples to provide them with, then you are just blowing smoke.

Actually I've had plenty of "rightard" comments deleted and warned...

When I say wing nuts I'm generalising the left and right simultaneously...

Also context matters.

Hell I had a warning and post removal for saying someone was "letting Sweeney Todd give them a shave"...

I have no idea why that was deleted.

There is nothing selective about it.

All the more reason to try and tone down on the rhetoric and maintain a cooler head.

BTW I don't recall that thread could you please link it for me...

I've not had a PM from you recently and when I did that post wasn't removed last time I checked it didn't say the word libtard either.

Maybe you're thinking of someone else.

Please share.

One of the problems I have noticed is certain posters who are easily offended by opposing opinions misrepresent what a poster has said. The libs are extremely bad about this and it is disingenuous and dishonest to say the least.

Just like in your OP where you talked about a university president calling for students to arm and shoot the muslims. That was a gross distortion of what he said.

I think you are just easily butthurt when your position is challenged, so you tend to retaliate with hyperbolic accusations. Perhaps a better "board business" suggestion would be to create some sort of Safe Space Forum where people like you can go to whine and suck your thumb for a few minutes with like minded people.
