Instead of posturing, why doesn't Texas get other states involved and collectively file a general grievance with the Federal government?

If I remember correctly a few years back, Texas threatened to remove TSA from it's airports and go back to private contractors after some highly publicized groping incidents. Feds basically said you do that and no commercial aircraft will be allowed to fly from or to the state of Texas. They (Texas) backed down.. Moral of the story ?

I don't want to visit the USA, but Texas, yes

uhhhh.....Texas currently is still part of the USA. I hope the Republican do put succession on the ballot. Not all Texans are fools. As a born and raised Texas farmer.....we've grown to like the federal agricultural subsides, soil banks, oil leases, price supports, etc.

Secession is just pandering by the GOP....anyone in business knows that.

grist.org...

So you like being taxed by your federal government so you can receive some back.
What percentage are the subsidies compared to taxes.
I don't want a specific answer

Son, if you ever do come to Texas....you will get a quick lesson in minding YOUR OWN business. **** off! Your assumptions are pure BS.

Its good business knowing Democrats are the party of the poor, Fergusons, and cucks of our society despite what they say on the internet.

If you have ever said the "Pledge of Allegiance" to the American Flag...and you renege on that pledge....you are a traitor and should be treated as such.

What is it about ...."one Nation, Under God, Indivisible" you can't understand?

Is that a rule at your school or something? Id argue the government breached my Bill of Rights long before I breached my Pledge, as such any system of equity would rescind my duties. But if you insist on labeling me a traitor, you can put my ehh your money where your mouth is. A parasitic relationship implies a host and a parasite, to determine the parties solve for who cant live without who.

I've actually read up on the "birth of the pledge", have you?

Nothing like taking political control of a socialists simple pledge that was originally meant for all flags of all nations. A kind of unity ideaology from a socialit.

Then force innocent children to pledge to something they really can't even comprehend.

This never polls well even in Texas. I think the highest I have ever seen it was at %30 percent. And that of course is without people being explained about how much money the Federal Government pumps into Texas through its military bases, NASA and those 10,000 border patrol agents along the Texas border.

If Texas were to succeed it could take over funding for the Texas National Guard but at the Fed has payed for most of what it has the US would likely take it or have them buy it. Still that is only 19000 men and they would have to secure the border when those 10000 border patrol agents pulled back. Texas would loose 33% of its budget which comes from the Fed. Texas like any US state would be a poor nation.

That sums it up well enough for me. So, if these wise guys really knew what would happen were Texas to become it's own nation again, why do they want to push the issue? I don't think it will pass and in light of this information I don't want it to pass.

Adults say the pledge of allegiance. all the time. They also sign loyalty oaths...I guess pledging your word and bond in America is a meaningless exercise depending on which party is in power. imo opinion that's BS. I hated Bush; that didn't mean I relequinshed loyal to my country ...we military people understand that. Or at least we should.

If you want out of the united states. Then by all means, good bye and good riddance to traitors.

There are more traitors in the halls of congress and white house than there are in the entire state of Texas.

Which adults?

Ok adults --- which of you not in some group that demands reciting the pledge military/scouts --- do it on your own?

I'm calling BS on that. We were the only state in the union making bank while everyone else was treading water a few years back.

Pull out the references or I'm going to consider it nonsense.

Confirmed, complete nonsense. For every dollar we give we receive 91 cents in return.

Tax vs Aid

Low Dependence

Also, stating Texas is "one of the, if not the largest welfare state" is disingenuous. This is like stating the US is the most indebted nation in the world. Both are ranked 3rd by population, yet when you take a per capita compared to the GDP, the results become more telling and truthful.

Texas is about in the middle as far as percentage of population on SNAP. Not gonna fool me!

Return on taxpayer investment, Texas is a losing proposition to invest in.

First of all. Texans oeacfully leaving the union is laughable. Second of all, they are absolutely traitors. They are american citizens openly trying not to be american anymore.

Why are they required to remain Americans?

I've never once said the pledge since understanding what it was. I stopped somewhere around 8th or 9th grade. As far as what part of it I can't understand, how about the part where it's a brainwashing of children, originally designed to create subservience to the state. I also find it amusing that you include "under God" a phrase added only because of Eisenhower being scared of Communism while leaving off the part in the pledge about American values like liberty and justice for all.

Oh, and loyalty oaths are the most unamerican thing imaginable. Loyalty due to an oath rather than a constantly challenged and reinforced justification for cooperating is ridiculous.

The secessionists are an early version of the Tea Party (I was working for a municipality, helping the courts system with some software when they tried this on the city.) They want to get "rid of the Federal government" but have no real idea what government does.

They are men of privilege in that they have not had a lot of the issues that many of us have had: unemployment (they think that once Texas is "free" they can then be free to hunt and fish and live off the land at any time they like (not realizing what the landscape would look like if 20 million people are out there every day, hunting and fishing for anything they can catch.) They haven't had major health problems (so the idea of the elderly and the disabled losing Medicare means nothing to them... they think that families will take up the slack and everyone's going to let granny and great-granny and gramps and that bachelor uncle move into the house -- including the relatives with Alzheimers.)

And then there's the issue of having to have passports to get out of Texas and going through immigration every time you want to go to visit the relatives in Arkansas or Oklahoma or any place outside of Texas.

...etc.

They mostly argue (and shoot at) each other. However, they're ultra-conservative and Gub'nr Abbot (who hasn't much room for brains in that cranium) wants to please them and so do many of the conservative Republican senators.

Actually, Treason are those who go against the constitution. Texas is trying to preserve and protect the constitution. It IS treason to go against the constitution. You have it the other way around.

When something you love changes into something you don't, it is better to move on than exist within, unhappily. Yes...this is what you have created.
