A Muslim taxi cab driver was shot in Pittsburgh by a man who ranted against Islamic State militants before running into his house to grab a rifle instead of paying his fare.

The 38-year-old Moroccan immigrant said he picked up the man about 1 a.m. Thanksgiving outside Rivers Casino, and he said the passenger began questioning him about his background, reported the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Police have not said whether they believe the driver’s race or religion played a role in the shooting, but the FBI has been notified and is evaluating the case.

Really? Hope they get to the bottom of this. And soon.

The driver was shot in the back as he drove away and is recovering in the hospital.

Not part of their narrative, I reckon. But to be fair, the investigation isn't over. Whatever happened, the man was SHOT.

I do not approve of the intentional harming of my fellow humans. However, Pittsburgh is a pretty backwards town so this doesn't surprise me.

This is why the Islamaphobic rhetoric and rhetoric for other issues that is hateful and intolerant that pervades right wing media and blogs is so dangerous. It incites crap like this. With the Colorado Springs shooting, this makes two recent terrorist attacks perpetrated by conservative Americans clearly influenced by conservative media. Though I'm sure we'll all be told he has mental issues or whatever.

Cab driving is a dangerous profession to begin with. My first ex-husband's dad drove a cab in DC and got shot in the head and killed in the 70s.

I new a guy once, he wasn't right in the head. Shortly after 911 he went to prison for stabbing someone as 'payback'. Only he couldn't find a 'real terrorist' so he stabbed a Hindu with a turban instead.

Any kind of extremist rhetoric is dangerous. And when people are constantly pelted with it from every direction, particularly those who only hang with their own and reinforce each other, this is what can happen.

But I'm sure what I just said is a far to liberal statement for some, even though it applies to anyone the shoe fits.

I haven't met many liberals that are anti-muslim and listen to Islamaphobic rhetoric. I'm sure they may exist, but most of that nonsense is coming from the right at this point in time. You are welcome to prove me wrong though.

I hope they release that sooner rather than later, to quash this either way. Why no arrest was made when it appears that someone clearly discharged a firearm aimed at another someone is beyond me. Wondering what the other side of this story could possibly be? "Dude drove off with my credit card?" or "He didn't give me my change?"

He does have mental issues if he's shooting at unarmed cab drivers, because they "look muslim", and they're out to get him. He's fruit loops.
