Yeah that video is from 2007 so I would guess some sort of layered, shape memory material (topological insulator), at some point, might be considered a more viable option.

The sandwiching I think is actually done for
Strength reasons to "enforce" the shape
memory effect and its reversal.

Nitinol is weak by itself on a torsional
(i.e. twist) basis and needs to be sandwiched between wide strips of a strengthening
member so that the shaping effect occurs
ONLY along a specific axis in a very
controlled and predictable manner!

I have done further research and have
PERSONALLY concluded that Nitinol
(Nickel-Titanium) heat induced shape
memory effect is only suitable as a
test bed due to the possibility of
uncontrolled "spring release".

It is my opinion that a shape memory
effect induced by the CONTROLLED
presence or absence of an electrical
current is the more viable AND SAFER
morphing product.

Much like human muscles which use
chemical reactions induced into a
cascading effect via by a spike in
electrical current to cause muscle fibre
contraction, I am suggesting that
lightweight Aluminum or Carbon/Kevlar
strips sandwiched between an ELECTRICALLY inducible Shape Memory
material may be what was chosen for
a final test aircraft.

I am not sure what type of metal or
composite material is most able to
emulate Nitinol but be safely controlled
by electrically/hydraulically/shock
pressure triggers!

Try checking out "Flexys", intelgurl mentioned this in an aircraft forum thread a while back. Besides mission adaptive wings, that they call compliant control, they have several other applications for the technology.

which i HAVE NOT been able to get as of yet from ANY of my

All I know is that full flight envelope tester

The only really "private" firm is Scaled
Composites which does work on creating
Fancy prototypes which tend to get farmed
Out to the Big Four (Lmco, Northrup, Raytheon,
Boeing) for high rate production
once full flight testing is done.

The REALLY TOP SECRET stuff is done
In-Service at specific facilities in Utah,
Texas, New York, Missouri, etc under
Trade names and in non-descript
Warehouses.

The CIA (aka The Company) literally
buys front companies, leases warehouses
And does its own manufacturing via trusted
Ex-employee subcontractors or using full

The NRO (National Reconaissance Office)
If I remember correctly was carved out of
The USAF who had an Imagery Systems
Directorate as did all the other services
In the 1950's that all had their own aerial photography units, their own aircraft
And specialty photographers.

It wasn't until the imagery section

budgetary allocations starting in

And the White House under the JFK

In a sense, that's quite predictable! Just look at the gaps.

Remember when the AF and CIA were perfectly fine with retiring the SR-71 suddenly? They talked 'satellites, yadda yadda'.

Well, uh, rapidly taskable reconaissance with unpredictable flight path is a pretty nice thing to have, and satellites don't cut it. We're pretty sure now that they've had something else for a while.

And the F117A and FB-111 have been retired for a while and the Air Force is dead set on retiring A-10? They're talking 'F35, yadda yadda'.

Well, uh, survivable ground attack is a pretty nice thing to have, and F-35 is sort of weak at it.

I will say this...Non-Euclidian N-Space (got that term from some
documentation sent to me from years ago!) is a way of describing
a living space that contains those who have the ability to manipulate
quantum states (i.e. ensure wave-function collapse) which will govern

and modifiable by indexing to it from a higher array dimension

Electrical operation of the air frame is a fun idea. Insulating it from from lightning strike or other electrical discharges could make the whole idea invalid. Imagine having the shape change suddenly on one wing. OOPS....

It's almost obvious once you start looking at the holes:
* AF is very eager to retire A-10
* F-111 retired
* F-117B retired
* F-15E and AC-130 not surivable against anti-air
* F-22, too much demand elsewhere

The holes in the capability matrix point to a medium A-X craft.

And the LRS-B bomber is going to retire the B1B, not the B-52.
