This is due to no mandate, Iraq formally requested assistance in September 2014, so while IS in Iraq was bombed by a US led coalition, IS had all the freedom within Syrian borders.
This because Syria did not request assistance and Russia made it clear that ISIS in Syria should only be bombed with the permission of the UN (unanimous agreement) or Assad.

We could also ask ourselves, why did it take Russia so long to finally go after this source of income for IS, they could have done it at day one in August.
That would have been far more effective than bombing cities.

might want to check out why we went into Vietnam in the 50's and 60's...(hint)....the big oil companies of that time, were not allowed to drill off-shore in Vietnam....this has been going on for decades.

Yeah, I'm puzzled why there is even a thread on it - I assumed everybody knew IS was selling it's oil.. They even sell it to the Syrian Government, for crying out loud! It's a very weird and incestuous war in Syria atm.
