Another victory for the government who regard the population at large as inferior and therefore only fit for extermination.

When your child or loved one is missing and law enforcement has all the new technology at their fingertips available to "invade someone's privacy" to in them, it's a good thing, and your "freedom" be damned.

When intelligence chatter prevents a horrific attack, it's a good thing, and your "freedom" takes a backseat.

When people go snooping around in other's peoples' business to frame them or to gather political dirt or in other ways harm them, it'a a bad thing.

Just like with most things in this world, technology can be used for good but has great potential for abuse and in the wrong hands can become a weapon.

Guess it all comes down to how much we trust our leaders and our government and even ourselves to do the right thing, and if we don't, then maybe we better be more vigilant and more vocal about who we put in power and how we let them use that power.

Without terrorism we would have freedoms and thats something the government doesn't want in a economy that is on the brink of collapse, Much easier to control a fearing populace that focusses on bogeymen instead of bread and water on their tables.

Just look at all the threads in ATS on ISIS and compare that to threads about our collapsing economies and disappearing freedoms.

If you live in a civilized society, we can't all protect ourselves, a vigilante society doesn't work. If you're going to live within a civilized society you have to accept that there's going to be government instituted law enforcement.

In my city, the police squad cars no longer read "to serve and protect". They now read "serving the community".

If the people I live near, grew up with are no longer wanting to protect me, do I think total strangers who take my right to pursue MY happiness , that being the NSA and cohorts, will protect me?

Let me have my rights and leave me to protect my own and those around me.

I agree wholeheartedly. My position has been for a number of years: get out of the middle east. We're not wanted there, so why go where you're not wanted?

Yes, we can.

All we need to do is clear out the idiots in Washington, D.C. and stop bombing people in the Middle East. We have people in D.C. that don't have our best interest in mind and frankly I am tired of being part of a country that bombs people 24/7 for no good reason.

You've got to remember, life in itself is a gamble. You could die any day. With freedom comes risk.

No, you can't keep the US safe without invading our privacy. Nor can you keep the US safe by invading our privacy. Freedom is not safe. Being alive isn't safe. Safety is an illusion.

There are always going to be pockets of extremism, so it's a perfect method of pushing your own agenda because it's not going anywhere.

Is Chicago a sparkling example of a" civilized society"? They have many areas of the city that acts in not so very civilized ways, but have how many LEOs working their streets?

Or perhaps NYC....civilized? Many would give a care if you were shoved under a moving subway train...

Or maybe a "civilized" city like New Orleans. Katrina was an excellent example of our governments ability to shock and awe all of us who watched people dying of thirst on their rooftops; LEOs shooting innocent people on a bridge, and what did the Mayor do again and what was he sentenced for?

I'll stop there.

I live in a small town, old fashioned in our ways. In my area of town, we join together in times of need. Neighbor helping neighbor. We understand our place in the coming "shift" and are prepared.

There is no safety or security, only the illusion of it.

There is no safety or security, only the illusion of it.

There is no safety or security, only the illusion of it.

There is no safety or security, only the illusion of it.

People who believe themselves to be safe and secure tend to be more productive and exploitable.

My in-laws as well as my parents also lived during WWII, the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, Korean War, Vietnam and all others after. My mother often told tales of school being 1 small building with grades from first to highschool graduates. Because of their life lessons, they passed down certain ways of life that are not taught to children today. Heck, today, they don't even teach kids how to maintain a checkbook!
I think people have turned toward themselves and stopped reaching out to help others. We live in the age of entitlement and 'I want it so give it to me' attitude.

If every person completed just one random act of kindness a week, where the receiver pays it forward when they can, maybe we would start to be civilized again.

Why should you maintain a checkbook? Debit cards have replaced checks (functionally they are checks, just easier to use) and you can get your balance at any time from an atm or your phone.

The only thing a, (any), "government", .."cares about"? .. Is keeping itself, "safe". Doesn't matter what "form" of a "government", you "think" you have. ..You are an "expendable". ....You, aren't even a "projected loss",(you're less than that),...You're a "tool", and "expendable".. to be used when needed...

Your best bet? ... Would be to live, and be "free",.. like an "American"! ...Then be ready to kill, (it is perfectly "legal" per the C.O.T.U.S."), ..."anyone"/"regardless of title",...that wants, "your privacy"...

That's as, about as "American", as it can get!!!!

When "A Government", is worried about your "privacy"?
You should probably plan accordingly. ..Because it ain't "worried", about "your privacy".
Ya gotta/going to "die" sometime. ... May as well, give "them" a reason, to die... Trust me, they ain't "killing themselves", "for you".
