Hello fellow ats dudes, I'm a long time lurker of this site, but very new to participating. I saw this and thought I would share it with everyone.

In a new video the hacker group Anonymous has declared war on ISIS saying they are targeting twitter and face book accounts affiliated with ISIS. This is the link to the times article.
link to Times article

Anonymous has reportedly taken down more than 2000 ISIS related twitter accounts as well as targeting the group on the privacy messaging app telegram.
huffington post article

In response to this, ISIS has made a statement of their own calling Anonymous "idiots" and making a video teaching members of ISIS how to avoid getting attacked by Anonymous. Below is a link regarding ISIS response.
article about ISIS response

I'm personally all for this..if they can cripple ISIS ability to communicate and coordinate attacks i say go for it. It does seem kind crazy to me that we have to rely on "criminals" to do what you think would be a priority for Governments to be doing. Who knows how successful they will be but if they can have any impact against this terrorist group I say thats a good thing. I would think going after their bank accounts would be imperative as well...it would be very difficult to coordinate attacks of hate without the funding to do so, but I haven't seen any info as to whether that is a plan of attack for Anonymous or not.

This is my first post so I hope I did a good job. It's a pleasure to be with you ATS!!!

I don't know if you intended to spell it "Annoymous" but I think that's absolutely wonderful. And I intend to steal it.

Apparently ISIS is using PS4's for most of their comms. Makes sense as there is no way to really shut it down unless you shut Sony's servers down.

I don't think hitting them on Twitter is going to do much....they understand it is heavily monitored where the PS4 network is not.

I thought they declared war on IS after the Charlie Hebdo attack , they didn't seem to have any effect then what will a new declaration achieve other than make themselves feel better / relevant.
Leave it to the professionals guys.

a reply to: gortex yeah thats true they didn't seem to really stop them in any way..doesn't seem like anything anyone does hinders them much..i feel like we really need to step it up against these guys. ISIS wants to usher in the apocalypse and they seem to be doing a good job. You would think with military action and trying to attack their comms that we would be making some headway against these guys but it doesn't really seem like it. And Obama doesn't seem too keen on ramping up the troop count over there...not that im sure that would make a huge difference either but maybe it wouldn't hurt to have more people on the ground.

Oh nooooo, Anon is going to do some real damage. Anon loves their videos but what do they actually DO? All hype, like releasing the KKK names - who cares. Hurt ISIS in their bank accounts... do something other than just making videos and threats for once

IMO this is more evidence that anon are state-sponsored controlled oposition.

Maybe they started off legit, but they've definitely been infiltrated.

When I read the headline on yesterdays skynews I was like 'well... they've just attacke Paris and you think attacking them in cyberspace is going to match that?'

But i guess they can disrupt their online activity which could have an effect on their commuincations!

If it helps... it helps I guess.

Star and Flag for you!

I support any aid from any resource to assist the fall of ISIS, and I think the USA's "supreme leader" needs to answer to his part in the funding, arming, or any other contributions made directly or indirectly to the growth of this "JV" team.

Didn't they take down Playstation once before? Seems like they should have been monitoring it since then, might have been more help.

Exactly they are all hype no action.

Just a bunch of hacker wannabes looking for 5 minutes of fame.

Well if they could do something useful they would bring down Saudi and UAE banks and wreck havoc in those cesspits of terrorism.

Unless ANON has an Arabic or Muslim member that can social engineer an algorithm to brute force ISIS passwords then all they could effectively do is DDOS sites, switch and bait, trace...

Give those traces to the authorities to learn locations of members using the IPs...I mean...that's pretty significant. I mean, the government needs all the manpower they can to ping those IPs and properly trace them. I welcome ANONs declaration of war. Any help to bring these terrorists down or event disrupt and slow their communications...make it inconvenient for them to use the internet...is very very welcome.

At least ANON is doing something. SOMETHING. Unlike the armchair critics here in ATS.

Anon isn't a solid 'group' of people. They don't all sit down in a basement with a special lab of computers all typing away and hacking peoples cell phones and computers.
Anonymous came from 4chan, it started as a collective of thousands of random people across the internet digging deep and passing information, anonymously, I can bet 3/4's of their 'group' don't even know each other, or even spoken in person.

So, no they can't be infiltrated because they all hide very, very well and contact one another through various different forms of communication, mainly down in the deep web. But most of the time it's a few people who just give a call to arms type deal, and others follow.
What MIGHT have happened is that Anon IS government, or military, and they simply just start a spark.

It would really bug me, that IF they are able to do something significant...
WHY WAIT UNTIL NOW?
If this group is supposed to be so righteous, why haven't they done something up to this point?
As if I.S. didn't do anything bad enough yet for them to respond.
If this group is as powerful and influential as they believe they are, they should've done this already and bragged about it with this video. Not come out and say that they plan on doing something now.

Read my post, Anon isn't a group that sits down and decides what to do next. It's a bunch of random people mercenaries if you need a good mental image, that come together to do something. It involves everyone, I bet some of them come here on ATS and look for information, they use the internet to achieve a one mind mentality to work together.
