The drone is believed to have been tracking Emwazi for most of the day yesterday and he was 'ID'd and engaged' when he came out of a building and got into a vehicle in Raqqa.
Another senior military source told the BBC there is a 'high degree of certainty' he had been killed.
Anti-ISIS activist group Raqqa Is Being Slaughtered Silently (RIBSS), which operates in the Syrian city, reported that Emwazi was killed at around 11.40pm last night.

How did they id him ?...did he have an implant they could track or did they place one in his head scarf ?...i am genuinely interested how they could tell the difference between him and well anyone else all dressed in black

The strike is also understood to have hit another member of 'The Beatles' – a nickname given to three British-sounding ISIS captors who guarded Western hostages, with Jihadi John being a reference to John Lennon.
A second member of the cell – nicknamed 'Jihadi George' after George Harrison – is believed to be London rapper Abdel-Majed Abdel Bary who fled to Syria in 2013.
The former rap star, whose father was a key lieutenant of Osama bin Laden, was among the first foreign fighters to take up arms in the warzone two years ago.

There are a ridiculous amount of ways to track a human being. Once his position is confirmed its a case of 24 hours eyes on. That can be done with the mk. 1 eyeball. It can be done using informants. It can be done monitoring signals intelligence. It can also be done following him via satellite and drone into a vehicle which is then struck with some nice Gucci munitions. The pentagon aren't going to annouce he is dead unless they have genuine and good reason to think that's the case. Going to look pretty stupid if he pops up saying 'guess what bitches!' Aren't they?

He's dead and if he isn't he's FUBAR.

The BBC are only saying as much as what the Prime Minister has said, 'that it's highly likely that he is dead'
Indeed one BBC reporter said, "It is highly likely he's dead, unless he pops up again"..I had to laugh at that.
Anyway, I suppose we will now get JJ's popping up all over the place, just like OBL.

I tend not to agree with drone assassinations but in this case I think it sends the right signal to those that would follow , although his death was likely quick and painless unlike his poor victims.
