If you go to the Ustream live feed now this ramble might make more sense...

I often see the top of the ISS lit by bright light despite the sun dimming over the earth. Sometime this light even flashes pulse like and, as is now the case, emits purple light at the top of the shot. Any explanations? I am aware the sun is a massive light emitter, but have seen the light pulsing above with a dark earth below...

I think I know what you're referring to , while I'm no camera expert I think it's likely caused by the camera auto focus and the bright light.

The shuttle cameras used to thrash around with Auto Gain Control cycling, there was no auto focus, but I don't know the new ISS camera specs at all.
