Okay, a little bit of a weird thing happened to me this morning. Sorry for such a long post, it's my first one so bear with me!

It started like any other morning of course, around 8.15 my alarm went off to indicate it was time for my boyfriend to get up and get ready for work. I got up too and was headed upstairs to make him some lunch for the day and on the way - like any other day - I stopped at my desk to take my contraceptive pill. Except it wasn't there. I didn't think anything of it except "Okay that's weird but oh well I'll find them later" and went to make the boy some lunch.

I'd gone back to bed to relax a little before starting the day and at about 9.30 I got a call from my boyfriend. This is how the converstation went:

Me: "Hey what's up?"
Him: "Have you seen my swipe card for work? It's on that little clip on blue retractable cord."
Me: "Yeah I know what it looks like, where do you think you left it?"
Him: "On the floor by the end of the bed, right where I left my work bag when I came home last night."
Me: "Alright cool I'll get it and drop it off for you."
Him: "Awesome thank you, smell you later!"
Me: "See you soon."

And that was it! He sounded pretty certain where he left it, so I just got out of bed and turned around to where he usually puts his stuff when he comes home and expecting to see it right there.
Except of course it wasn't.

I thought it must be somewhere near where he thought it was so I started searching under the bed and under the dresser but couldn't find anything but fluff and a dusty sock. I texted my boyfriend and asked him if he was 100% certain it wasn't in his bag. This was the copy and pasted text I sent him with his reply:

Me: "Youve 100% emptied out your bag and given it a good shake? its not balled up in some clothes or anything? Im not doubting you, just wanting to make sure because I can't see anything here... i'll keep looking xx"
Him: "yep I've made certain. that's so weird.. x"

I sat down on the bed and closed my eyes for a few moments and clearing my mind as I didn't want to panic. I started to think and put things together. Something important of mine is missing, something important of his is missing, both over the same night - and this is why I'm doubting that it was coincidence - I remember being woken in the night to ticking in the walls. (There are a few threads on ATS about mysterious ticking in the walls and the sounds are often linked to poltergeists and hauntings. Feel free to look them up)

Ticking in my room isn't unsual, infact it's been going on ever since we moved into this house 7 years ago, however it only ever occurs in my room and I hadn't heard it for a few months. Other than what occurred this morning, there's only ever been one other occasion where things have been physically moved. I'd only ever seen shapes in the night or heard things.

After turning everything upside down looking for BOTH items, I'm left frustrated and a little bit sad. Is this all coincidence and have we misplaced our items or could there be more to it? I don't like feeling like I'm crazy!

Thank you for any help and answers you all can provide, I'd just like to get my things back, and my boyfriend's too!

I sit at my comp, and on my left are my tobacco and cigarette lighter.
One evening my lighter was suddenly not there!
About a week went by.
I'm back at my comp, go to the kitchen and make a cuppa, return to my comp and there sits my missing lighter!

I have absolutely no explanation for how or why!

Be interested to know when your missing items return.

My theory is its all being caused by the LHC.

Very interesting and I'm sure it was a little frustrating at the time.

I'll keep you posted as to if and when they return

Honestly, I can't believe this phenomenon can be solved under "forgetting".

I have a very sharp mind, something I work on, like I work on my muscle. The mind is a tool that needs sharpening and wielding.

I say such because, I keep track of almost anything I own. I don't own much either, don't really care for the material.

Anyways.. since a boy to man, I've had this phenomenon happen to me many times.

It's not the usual stuff I would misplace and admit; keys, wallet, phone, cards, money etc...

It's random stuff; devices, books, rocks/crystals, shoes, belt, food, cup etc..

I swear something beyond the viel of our light spectrum likes to play around with us.

One time I went to pour a drink from the water tank (huge plastic jugs, go upside down on tank, press the tap, water come out, voila)... I tapped it out, last of water.

Then retreat back to the couch fory late night TV occupation... after about 40 minutes went to put the cup in the kitchen, and the actual water jug that was upside down was placed in the middle of the hallway

Weird thing is, I didn't hear a sound.

if that is a truthful and actual recollection, then either a ninja broke into your home to play a trick on you, or you have a haunting.
Im leaning more towards haunting. Ninjas dont play tricks on people.

NO, you are not crazy. I've had this type of phenomenon happen to me on multiple occasions, one time it happened in front of like 5 friends. We were hanging out in a bathroom, "socializing", well after a minute, I sat down my "medicine" on a window sill, we started talking,( dont remember what about) and then we decided to "medicate" again,( this was probably 10 or 15 minutes after it was sat down). Well everyone saw where I had put it and no, know one had sticky fingers. Well I went to go grab it and was nowhere to be seen. We all looked for about 20 minutes. We searched everywhere, without a clue on how it disappeared. After everyone finished looking, we all sat down stumped and confused. And after about a 1 minute of sitting there, I said screw it and decided to check one last time, where I sat it, and low and behold, it was sitting right where I left it. Now I have no clue what happened but we all searched that bathroom, the 2 rooms connected to it and everyone's pockets, including my own. Everyone was flabbergasted at it being in the spot I left it. I was more concerned then anything else, wondering if a ghost or the government were taunting me. But as soon as we all noticed it missing, I mentioned it happened to me many times before and always would find what was lost in the exact place I left it. Everyone brushed it off as it just being overlooked, but I couldn't, this time it happened IN FRONT of other people. I was up all that night trying to figure it out. But like I said, you are not crazy. And I would like to believe that I'm not either.

Agree 100%
I've had disappearances of many items over the years, but most times it can be explained, however, like the lighter I wrote about above, there seems no rationale explanation. It really is like something is having a laugh!

Something that really did make me sit up was when I'd just buried my old mate Mr Dog in the back yard. I went back in doors and was sitting on the arm of the sofa feeling very unhappy. For some reason a reel of masking tape fell off of a shelf and rolled under an arm chair. I got up and lifted the armchair up to retrieve the tape and what do I find? A photo I'd printed of my dog and one of his toys!
My mind was opened a great deal on that day.

I think many of us have had that experience.
In my opinion it is because our brain is occupied with important things that we haven't solved during sleep,
Specially in the morning combined with some stress it will be hard to see the object you are looking for,
even when it is in front of your nose.
A small walk in fresh air usually clear my mind enough to remember where it is.

Thank you for posting this! Like you said, it's almost like whatever/whoever is causing this is just doing it to play a trick or like it's taunting you. It's like a bad joke.

I have no advice nor a solution. But I do believe you.
Over the years I have experienced several either moved or vanished objects. Fortunately not the past ten, what ever it is stays away now. And I am grateful for that.
The most curious one was a Christmas Eve with my parents, just the three of us. We were doing our usual Christmas ritual after supper. Singing, reading telling stories, and then Mom exclaimed "Where is the star" It was gone. We had all seen it and admired the tree before supper.
It was a tiny house, none of were prone to pranks and the star had been with us for many years. We turned the lights on and searched to no avail.
Our custom was to gather again on New Years Eve around the Christmas Tree.
That whole week we had searched all over, and the tree was scrutinized again and a again.
So there we are, trying to make a happy evening of it, when all three of us see it. Mind you the room is not lit except for the live lights on our little tree.
We see it, shining, glowing on a branch. Glowing.
It went back on the tree.
That is just one tale. Things occur we can't explain with our horridly dysfunctional rational sentiments.

I hope your items turn up.

My uncle dropped a knife off the counter in his kitchen and never heard it hit the floor. He never found it. It was a hunting knife that meant a lot to him. He remodeled the kitchen some years later, new cabinets and flooring included... but never found the knife.
The knife disappeared.

Back when I use to smoke, I always kept cigarettes and lighter in a certain place. Because my kids were little, I kept them on a shelf by the back door, so when I wanted one, I just grabbed one and stepped out. There were two reasons I had them there : it kept the lighter out of reach and was a reminder to Go Outside To Smoke, no matter the weather. Several times, I would go to get one and they would be gone. Each time, I looked everywhere for them. I asked the wife, the kids, turned the house upside down, not so much to find the cigarettes, but to make sure the kids didn't get the lighter. Every time this happened, after spending at least an hour looking, I'd go back to the shelf and there they'd be. I always thought maybe my wife was doing it, but she swore she never touched them. I have a residual haunting in this house and explained it in another thread a few years ago.
Creepiest thing : I sometimes hear a small child's voice near my ear whisper "Daddy"

I won't go into any long metaphysical or para-psychological exposition, but will say that when the same basic thing happened to me in a few "disturbed" houses, sometimes addressing the empty room, politely, and saying something like "Okay, I notice you... I don't know who you are or why you're here, and if I'm intruding I don't mean to, but could you please return the ______ ," has worked, usually within a few hours or days, to get the things back... invariably right where I thought they should have been.

Why, or what does it, I can't exactly say... .but I'd guess it's something invisible wanting attention.

Some will warn "demons! devils! don't engage!" and who knows, but just addressing an 'empty' room and acting as if there was an invisible person there isn't exactly selling your soul.

Thank you for the advice, I'll head down stairs and try it.
I texted a friend who is more "experienced" than me with the paranormal and she suggested I cleanse the house, but I don't want to disturb whatever is going on. I mean we've "coexisted" perse for 7 years and there was no real trouble until now.
I mentioned in the original post that I'd had things move before. I used to have a collection of shells on my dresser that I'd collected over a few summers. One day I came home and they were all arranged in a nice neat circle. That happened almost everyday until I took the shells away. Perhaps you're right about wanting attention.

This phenomenon is a pain in the bum to be honest I have had things go missing right from under my nose before. That being said I do believe that this type of stuff happens having had it happen to me but with the ticking in your walls have you thought about maybe there being a pack rat inside your house? It's starting to cool down and they will be looking for a warm place to bed down for the winter months. This might not be the case but it is an option between going crazy and possible hauntings.

You have attracted an evil spirit because you are living in sin! Repent sinner!

LOL! Only joking, I have had missing items that show up unexpectedly. I'm not sure of the cause, I just put it down as a playful ghost.
