What is an archivist on ATS, and why does the icon on the profile page link to a "404 Page Not Found!"?

He answers "all your questions" in
this thread

I saw that thread and that's where my question arises. The member has a label of "archivist," which I don't understand, and I especially don't understand why the label would link to a 404.

That member is before my time, but he appears to have been someone claiming to know of contact with UFO's.
I assume that the "archive" link was meant to go to an archive, perhaps of UFO documentation, and the link ceased working when the archive was abandoned. This does go back to 2008, after all.

The label "archive" was put there by ATS staff and not the member, correct?

Why would ATS staff link to UFO documentation?

What kind of documentation?

Would it be a title like Scholar or Fighter and the page describing it no longer exists?

I tried "stone archive" in the search engine, and came up with this thread;
The case for Clifford Stone
What I learn from that thread is that the documentation is being provided by Stone himself (which is presumably why the "archivist" label is given).
A post on the thread provides another link to the archive, which again leads to 404;

Whatever you might think of Clifford Stone & his claims, there's no doubt the documents made available to ATS are a tremendous resource ... he's done some real hard work over the years and all credit to the guy for that. ATS recognises that & has increased slightly the ad count in the FOIA archive to help provide the guy with a modest income, as a recognition for all the work he's done.
.. go take a look at the archive, see what you think ...

P.S. Half-way down the forum page, you will find a link labelled "FOIA Documents". Open that up, and you find a number of threads, all apparently from 2008 and relating at least partly to Ufology.
Perhaps those ARE the Stone document archive, or the Stone archive used to be among them. Try exploring.

You're correct for the most part...

We put lots of effort and considerable resources into uploading and organizing hundreds (if not thousands) of FOIA documents that the Clifford Stone had compiled over the years through his tireless requests. After about a year there was just no interest and we couldn't continue to pour resources into it.

The "Archivist" title was given to members who helped with the effort of going through the myriad documents, reviewing them, and starting a thread on each one that gave a brief description of the document.

It was a great idea that just never garnered enough interest to be sustainable.

I see 6 pages of apparently live threads in the FOIA Documents forum. Do any of them pertain to the Clifford Stone documents?

If not, why does Clifford Stone have the "Archivist" title?

Apparently I misunderstood.

The entire FOIA Documents forum is devoted to the Clifford Stone FOIA requests?

I'm doing a screenshot because I couldn't get tags to work:

I don't get a 404. I get this:

The URL says one thing, but the page says something else, does it not?

On my browser, the address bar at the top says "Abovetopsecret.com 404 Page not found", though the rest of the screen is the same.
It seems that the software chooses to divert the query to something useful instead of just showing the brush-off page.
Either way, it's a case of not getting the page we were after, which is the point that matters.

Curiouser and curiouser!

And is it your understanding that the entire FOIA Documents forum is devoted to Clifford Stone's research?

Okay do you think the threads will point to another way to access these documents online at a website somewhere?

Here's a screenshot of the first post of the first thread:

The .pdf link is a dead link.

If they're all that way, I have to ask: What's the point of the 6 pages of threads and the FOIA Documents forum?

I guess we're supposed to do detective work? Or, is it just a record for the sake of a record?

For heaven's sake, the world is full of things which are not used any more; they haven't been thrown away because nobody has had a compelling reason for throwing them away.
So what's the point of asking what the point is?
Either read the stuff or don't read it; the choice is yours.
