In my neck of the woods... we would trek but we would never get far. Always at night.
There was something or someone in there who would suddenly jump out yelling hey.
We would just take off running. As time went by... I noticed many of my friends would disappear for days on end. They would always show up saying don't go in there.
Then one night I went in there... And sure enough that thing jumped out yelling hey.
That Time we never made it. He caught me and my date. Took us straight to jail.
Turns out the park closes at one a.m. and it's against the law to go in.
If you're caught you get sent to jail. A couples days only.
But... we don't go to the woods anymore....

Once many years ago, I took a long bicycle trip along the coast of California. I had been cycling all day, leaving the hills near Garberville six hours behind me at least. At last, at around 1 AM, I saw a sign for a hiker biker camp. It lay down a winding road I could make out vaguely on my map, sandwiched between an artificial and therefore probably deep body of water on one side, and on the other deep woods. I had my flashlight duct taped to the handlebar of my bike (because the bike's light had long since perished) and it lit a sufficient patch of path to prevent my plunging into the lake with all my gear and poor swimming skills. As I acclimated to the sound of my wheels on the gravel and the frogs chirruping in the lake, I started hearing something in the woods. Twigs snapping periodically, following just behind me. I pulled the flashlight free and shone it into the woods and saw only blackness, as if a velvet sheet hung just behind the first row of trees. I did that several times. This went on for a good forty five minutes, because it was not an easy trail to the campsite. By the time I saw the light at the ranger shack, I was trembling and had my flashlight clenched between my teeth so I could look backwards and make sure whatever "it" was, wasn't about to pounce. I am not a fearful person, in fact it's a short list of things that scare me, but that night on that little path is number one on that short list.

Same story and state here. I actually feel weird when I go out, and nothing strange happens. Tennessee is just haunted. I guess its always been that way, as my uncles use to tell stories of things that happened to my grandpa in his youth in the 1910's.

I have to agree that some places can just plain old give you the creeps. Much of my work involves being out the bush alone and I can tell you that some places consistently give me an eerie feeling each time I go there. I don't know what it is about these places that makes me feel that way but when I am there all I want to do is do the work and get out of there. Most areas are fine though and never give me a creepy feeling... it is strange that's for sure.

i have been in the woods many times at night. me and some friends would always go to different places and walk around in the woods at night. we never had flashlights or anything, one day we went to a new place,, we walked threw the woods and came across this old village and it looked to be from the 1800's we were all crazy creeped out, but we walked around the place. next thing we know there was this bell ringing.

terrified we started going towards the sound creeping up on it slowly, finally after probably a few minutes ( felt like for ever) we found the source of the sound. 2 cows doing the nasty and one was wearing a bell.

turns out the village we were at was from very long ago but its kind of like a tourist attraction. you can go there and they have a bunch of stuff going on at the place all the time. after telling the story to someone they said o you were probably at this place, i looked it up and they were correct. at night with no power on or anything it just seemed like a ghost town and we wondered how the heck we ended up there lol...

There are not many forests in the UK big enough to get lost in.

Oh my gosh, the stories about that forest are so creepy!!! Have you seen the movie, newer one, about the girl that goes missing in that forest and her sister goes to look for her? Can't remember the name, but it was super creepy too. I love stuff about that place!

I'm most likely gonna be in the wilderness up in the mountains this coming weekend,so I will skip any creepy forest stories till we get back
Seriously though the danger around here is murderous locals more than anything else but I would rather not have my mind full of the creepies,it is mighty dark up there at night

I've experienced it. Unless someone has experienced it, it's difficult to explain. It's a feeling of a thousand eyes being on you. It's as if every move you make is monitored.

The first thought that comes to your mind is that you're being tracked by something. You'd have to experience it to understand. It's really an odd feeling.

Naw it's not difficult to explain

I'm a seasoned pro explorer...dangerous predator caller since getting a Johnny Stewart animal caller record player when I was 13.... in Texas

I wouldn't go into the woods without Jesus.....when the crazy whatever they are gather....you know.......odd bird whistles only on an area.......whistles not very birdlike.....friggin whistles you have never friggin heard before ever

The more you hear them, the more quiet all other noises get and suddenly the birds whistles have your number.....

Or, 30 minutes east of Seattle.......Bigfoot threw a bulldozer down the Cree field.....I left saying I'll never go back there without ten people with me.

I'm basically living in the woods these days, going out at night you don't always know if it's an animal you're hearing(though, sometimes) or other. As much as I love it, safety precaution must be taken. Lost in the pitch black at night would be easy to do if not sticking to the roads or known trails. Even in the day time confusion can happen when in a montane forest when the trees start looking the same.
