Sorry to jump in, but he did nothing wrong? When a cop is pointing a gun at you to stop, you don't do the opposite and drive away... When you drive away from a cop who's trying to detain you, I'd consider that "doing something wrong" but maybe we have different definitions...

He had done nothing wrong to have a cop pointing a gun in his face in the first place.

However when the cop tells you to stop or get out of the car. You do it.

Did you read the story? It was his girlfriend who sold it and his GF was the target of the investigation the whole time.

He was never even teh target

Lets see misuse of a weapon, endangering the public, inciting panic, misuse of force, failure to follow procedure. That's the short list of the charges that could be applied. A couple depend on the counties rules on shooting in to a car. Most ban police from doing so. As it risk other people, not just from the shots but anyone that they might not know is in the car as well as people in the area when the driver can no longer drive the car, turning it in the quarter ton wrecking ball.

The officer will only get charges applied if they get a by the book judge on this case. If not he'll walk.

The trouble with that train of thought is that a cop is trained to handle this type of situation with adrenaline rushing and whatnot in order to keep under control their actions. You can't expect the suspect to have the same training when their flight mechanism kicks in and they run. To a cop or bystander, sure the logical thing to do would be stop, but to the suspect who is scared and has a gun in his face, his flight mechanism likely kicked into high gear an he ran.

So, if that's the case, then why speed away??? If a cop speeds behind me with his gun drawn, I'll assume it's a miscommunication and I'll look to clear it up with them. What I won't do is speed away, putting the cops in a difficult position...

Agreed. If I were that cop and specifically in this situation, I would have done the same thing. Fearing for my life in an escalated moment that happens exceedingly fast, I would have thought the car was trying to run me over. All it would take would be for the officer to trip and be crushed. Then again I'm not a police officer. IMO
