My comment about law enforcement being a minority is based on the current legal understanding of how hate crimes work. A segment of the population that is targeted by others for whatever asinine reason.

We are all born and we all die.
We are all Human.

Everything else is what happens in-between decisions.

Hate crime legislation does not work any more than gun control laws work. We have a bad habit of over complicating things in an effort to appear morally superior and in the end we always miss the point.

A person who kills another person commits the same crime as a white person who kills a black person or a black person killing an Asian. The goal should be to overcome the perceived prejudice some people develop towards others and not draft laws that make the life of a person in category A somehow more important than a person in category B.

It is not going to matter to person A if the suspect who killed there loved one is of a different race / gender / sexual orientation. The person they love is dead and nothing is going to bring them back. No amount of "sentence enhancement" can change that.

Well, I've only heard of a few "love crimes".

You'd think a LEO would be fairly unhappy with a law that causes sentence enhancement for the shooter having perceived prejudices against other people, though. Of course, I'm sure it won't apply to them.

Garner is 30 mins from where I am. The police there are known to be pigs, or maybe thats a national label

I personally would've gone with "Kill a cop, Save a friend."

But that's just personal

"Hate crime" is just a title applied to make the politically correct in the judicial and political system feel like they're addressing a problem.

Prior to that, the "why" behind a crime was always considered during sentencing, and the more malicious the reasoning behind the crime, the greater the punishment (in general). Motive always came into play, but now it's just easier to get a harsher sentence, which I don't think is always a good thing.

And you are wrong to think that imo.

We don't need to kill cops, that doesn't help us in anyway. All it would do is create more tension and more killings.
