When the day comes that they say "we have made contact", my very first thought will be ....Project BlueBeam.

My money is on the bet that it is an alien version of a Super Walmart.

Probably running a sale or something.

Would be great if we made real true contact in our life times. Just to bad are governments will always keep us in the dark.

So, this is the way I see it. All radio signals from the advent of radio signals (from our planet) have only traveled so far into the universe as they keep going yeah? So why can't it be the same with this star? If it created any signals we will be able to detect it even if the population is extinct because the signals just keep on going?? Or have I watched too many films?

Why do people believe that our governments would keep such thing secret ? What would be the purpose ? Its not like the world is going to stop..you still have to go to work, pick up your kids from the kindergarten, take your medicine etc etc

I've looked at it before, building a sphere would likely require more mass than the entire star system (including all planets and the star itself) could provide, even if it was a very thin skin. Consider for a moment the surface areas you'd be looking at and how miniscule even the largest of planets are compared to a star and how small a star is when you far enough away to construct such a feet. Why use more mass and energy constructing a device than you'd even be able to harvest from it? A mega structure would be possible but more likely to be a swarm or cluster in orbit rather than whole sphere.

I wonder why noone (at least not that I could see) mentioned "Ringworld" by Larry Niven.

Here is a nice pic from some site for mods on Sins of a Solar Empire Universe (Source).

It would look just like what they found, but with an irregular distribution of solar panels.

using the Allen Telescope Array to search for radio signals from the star

So a race of advanced aliens might be "draining" a star...and are using radio.

Let me try and predict something...no radio signals will be detected. This will only reaffirm our "scientists"...no Aliens.

If in a 1000 years in the future we become experts in other forms of communication.

If we never found Aliens by then, wouldn't it be feasible to assume we would still be searching and in searching using any or all means at our disposal?

I reckon we would still be using radio regardless.

This "news" is so strange to me and feels out of place. There is enough exchange on this thread about what it could be or could not be.

I just want to go off topic a minute and point out some things about this "news".
- this news from major apace agencies proves; whatever they put in the media and over sensationalized, the people will go ape s--t over it and give mass attention

- everyone else is quiet. The debunkers lately have been silent, the Putin haters, the propaganda people, Phage and the top dogs on ats. What that has anything to do w/it idk, just pointing out.

- this could be one massive rouse, we have no definite proof of the claims of the star in question, just loose ends and broad ideas like AI taking over.
Because everyone is quiet, let's turn attention to something "BIG" so we take the heat off behind the curtain.

I'm a conspiracy theorist, and have been for a decade, this s--t stinks right now. I'm not over sensationalizing about everything "they say" or "show". It's smokes and mirrors, media, not a first hand experience. They can day whatever they want..

They also used Pluto's moon Ceres, as an attention switch on the masses. Making it SO EASY for the controllers to get the edge on world control.

When people get quiet, and hype over some new "thing" is engineered, THEY WIN AGAIN.

So yes, I'm saying this could be a fabrication so the politicians can cloak and dagger humanity again and again.

But for all I know it's an ancient AI evolving "race"... kind of like the human race.

The masses? Do you honestly think the "masses" of the earth population really would be distracted by this?

If this was a headline on many news sources it would be overwhelmed by tons of other crap even before lunch time.

To create a structure that could encompass a star would require dozens of earth sizes planets worth of mass. If this structure exists that means some civilization has mastered the power of gravity on a scale beyond imagination.

even more disturbing is the fact that if they were so advanced and had evolved past fighting each
other, wouldnt they be wary of other civilizations - why would they broadcast their presence?

Or would they want us"savages"to leave them alone? If that advanced they surely know where here.

More than dozens, it's akin to creating a bubble several km big from one stick of gum. Your talking more than the mass of the entire star system including the star itself.

Even if some esoteric evidence were found that the planet housed / houses aliens, it would not be believed, as it would render religion defunct. TPTB would not have it.

Hmmm

The surface area of our sun is 6.09×10^12 km2

Earths volume is 1.08321×10^12 km3

If you flattened out earth and squezed it 178m thick (thin) it should theroetically cover the sun? Or does my maths fail me?

The challenge will be getting a specific element/building material, but i suppose they could harvest that from suns... maybe that is what they were doing 1500 years ago.

I believe that the gov't is slowly weening us to the reality of the situation, through these "baby steps" of announcing there's water on Mars, the increasing discoveries of possible habitable planets, imagery through media, etc. They know there's at least 1 form of intelligent life out there, but it would be kinda difficult to suddenly say "we're in the middle of political turmoil across several countries including our own, the economy in the grand scheme of things is just getting worse, civil unrest seems to be growing for a variety of reasons. Oh by the way, we've discovered several artifacts and have reason to believe there's also an alien presence that's been observing us which we have no control over, our only option so far is to cooperate. Have a nice dinner!"

At least, that's what I believe

Perhaps the dimming of the star IS the signal...?

This got me thinking. I wonder if it is possible for an advanced life form to 'mine' a star (though I get by loose definitions you could claim a dyson sphere does that, I mean by different means). Perhaps given the nature of the dimming being inconsistant of what our limited intelligence infers a dyson sphere would commonly look like, this could be some sort of mining/harvesting system for things contained within the star instead of energy emitted from the star.

That is, of course, entertaining the idea that it is aliens, but it is certainly fun to speculate upon the idea until further information is gathered.
