Seen a massive rise of mostly American Christians bleating that they are being persecuted recently on ATS.
Just stop yes some Christians are being persecuted in other parts of the world and they are the ones who need our thoughts and help not Christians in the west safe behind their keyboards crying that they have been persecuted.

But what about the recent school killer I know some will say, well that is one nutjob It isn't happening in the USA or the UK all the time just once.
I also find it very hypocritical that the ones bleating persecution are the ones who have been very vocal on persecuting others and If you look back the vast majority of persecution has come from certain religions.

So stop have you never heard of the boy who cried wolf?.

What you are really moaning about is people criticizing your religion which is not persecution at all.
I have done a little reading and have found no persecution but a lot of lies.

Claiming you are a victim helps your cause doesn't it? it puts people on the defensive straight away when you bleat persecution, it is a powerful tool and If you actually fall for your own BS and believe it again it is a powerful tool to make your point and not get attacked on that point.

It reminds me of a bully who has had the run of the yard for ages until a bigger bully comes along and then the original bully crys persecution.

So please stop you are just harming your cause and spitting on the poor souls in the world who actually are being persecuted.
Remember criticism of your club is not persecution.
Rant over
.

So it's just American Christians that act this way? How about the rest of the crybabies of all organized religion why do they get a pass??

All members of organized religion are a bunch of mindless followers who can't think for themselves.

Self-aggrandization and persecution myth is present in nearly all religious memes. Get used to it.

Here is a challenge to those who bleat persecution.

When and how have you been persecuted against? go one show us. Not people in the ME btw I am talking about western Christians.

I think some of the recent discussions surrounding American Christians is related to the recent Oregon school shooting and how the media seemed to breeze over the religious element to it, choosing to focus more on gun control agenda etc. etc.

so I don't think it's all just people claiming they're being persecuted, it's more of a criticism of pop culture and the political motivations behind what the post for Headlines and what details aren't seeming to get enough attention

Yep
the funny thing is, Judaism is arguably the most downtrodden and oppressed faith in the world. And you hardly hear any of them complaining about it. Meanwhile, Christianity is having it easy in comparison and they have a childish temper tantrum at the slightest so-called "hostility".

Here we go.....

Now some religious types are going to use this thread as evidence of Christians being victimized, persecuted, abused and oppressed.

Who's up for a nice game of "Catch 22"

Oh I expect it like I said criticism and persecution are different things.
If I could ask them If they want criticism of their religion banned I bet many would welcome that.

I have been criticized soundly for bringing up anything that is even remotely critical of Christianity or Judaism; Even being called antisemitic.
To me it's evidence of an obsessive compulsive disorder to always feel like a victim even to the establishment of a

Culture of Victimization...

Are You Offended??? SO WHAT!!!
A thread authored by our very own Hefficide, and well worth the read...

... If I find offense in the behavior of another - behavior that is not intended to directly provoke or harm me - then I'm pretty much basically invalidating the other persons right to choose by trying to impress my own views upon them. I am, essentially, angry that they have the gall to disagree with me. This is the reality of it. This is my own insecurity screaming in my ear... telling me that I cannot be wrong ( because I'm smart and always right! ) so, therefore, this other persons disagreement must surely be a deliberate act of mocking me...

We all do this, to one degree or another. We react to alien or different thoughts as if they were threats. But why?

Could it be that we are all narcissists?

Liked this bit.

2. As victims, we can play on the others’ pity and guilt. When they are angry with us, we can diminish their rage and aggression by playing the weak, abused person. When we want something from someone, we can play on their guilt by making them believe they are at fault for our unhappiness or our problems.

If only I could have wrote that in my OP.

Plus a comment made in comments.

I like what Dr. Phil says - There are no victims, only volunteers! So true!

I agree Western Christians' persecution complex is stunning. It's almost arrogant in nature. It's certainly insulting to the Christians on the other side of the world who ARE suffering from actual persecution.

To me, I see the Christian persecution complex here in the states as a result of Christians losing the edge they've had in society for so long. As everything equals out religiously in our society, Christians pretend like that is persecution against them. That isn't true though. Having an unfair advantage of other religions is persecuting them, hence losing that edge isn't persecution against you.

Yup, there seems to be some people in the world who have water on their brain. To claim others will eternally burn in a lake of fire for not believing in the same things as them and then turn around to claim they are being persecuted because you don't buy into it definitely have some problems comprehending things.

I have gotten better at ignoring those types, but I sympathise with you feeling the need to rant about it.

Thank you my chimp friend.

The hypocrisy is sickening. They are well off enough to spend time on a computer and visit a message board yet they still cry persecution because a few people on the other side of the world are killed. Why? Because they share the same faith as them.

They don't acknowledge the other faiths that are persecuted because that would damage their complex.

You're right about disagreement not being persecution too, if that were the case they persecute gay people every time they whine about gay marriage. Not only do they whine about the act itself, they whine about not being able to persecute them anymore by wanting to ban it again.

Hypocrisy at its finest... or its worst depending on which way you look at it.

My two cents....

I'm Catholic and I can't say that I feel particularly persecuted. Do I know/see/understand that there are people that can't stand religion in general and some that can't stand Christianity in particular? Sure. However, like everything else, I disregard the few bad apples.

i'm just gonna leave this statement here and back away slowly...

God is love and he loves us all-unless you are gay. Or a Hedonist.Or a Muslim. Or a Buddhist. Or a Taoist. Or a Pagan. Or a Hindu. Or a Jedi...God is love but we have the divine right to dictate god's love without his consent.

The televangelists don't help.

Getting up at the crack of dawn for work, I'd hear Kenneth Copeland or Joyce Meyer quoting a meaningless and ambiguous passage from the Corinthians or whatever and turn it into a motivational speech that would make Tony Robbins blush.

True faith cannot be bought.

That doesn't come off as a persecution complex to me, it comes off as Spoiled Brat Complex. The result of having to realize they're (as a religion) no longer in control of empires & have to share governments with others, no longer able to use the church to dictate what others do in life, no longer getting away with sniffling & boohooing to get sympathies or preferential treatment as a group. Ya know what grown ups do about that? They get over the butthurt & carry on. Eventually, Christians might buck up & quit whining, but I wouldn't count on it, at least not in our lifetimes.
