What made me think pump and dump...
HAIFA, Israel – After Israel complained for years that it was surrounded by oil-rich states but didn’t have a drop within its own borders, it appears there’s a big-time turnaround with the announcement Wednesday that massive oil reserves have been located in the Golan Heights, close to the country’s border with Syria.
Afek Oil and Gas, an Israeli subsidiary of the U.S. company Genie Energy, confirmed the find in an interview with Israel’s Channel 2 TVbut conceded that until the oil is actually extracted, they won’t be sure of the actual amounts and quality of the oil that has been discovered.
The fact that it lies on the border with Syria does tell me one thing for sure, the Middle East conflicts aren't going to end anytime soon. Is Putin trying to get a foothold to go after that oil?
According to a September 2014 Times of Israel report on the Golan exploration, Genie Energy is chaired by Howard Jonas and counts among its more notable investors the “former US Vice President Dick Cheney, Michael Steinhardt, Jacob Rothschild, and Rupert Murdoch.”
There are grave breaches of international law as well as environmental concerns at play here. Firstly, the type of oil expected in the area may not be in liquid form and could require fracking — a process that involves injecting large amounts of scarce water and toxic chemicals into the ground in order to force the hydrocarbons to the surface.
Whether it is conventional oil or shale oil, fracking or drilling could lead to oil seepage into the underground water table, polluting Lake Tiberias — the biblical Sea of Galilee — potentially rendering local water supplies undrinkable and destroying the ecosystem for generations to come.

Yes because the Golan Heights belongs to Syria it's just more land that is illegally occupied by Israel. What a coincidence Israel whined about not having oil like the Arabs and the land they want to steal from the Arabs like the Golan Heights and Gaza has oil under them. Also by drilling for oil in Golan Heights the give Syria a real nice target to hit.

Jeez, can you make it any more obvious that you're anti-Israel. You talk about Israel whining, you whine and blame about everything that has to do with Israel. I'm sure that this will be deleted as an off-topic reply, but I just want to state how ridiculous you sound.
Balderdash! you see when one country starts a war and invades another and subsequently gets it's ass kicked the victor often claims any territory gained during the war as just compensation. Syria, Egypt and others invaded Israel. So Israel kicked their asses and annexed some of the territory they claimed during the war as a buffer zone. It's no use complaining about it. They started it. Israel finished it.

So you are saying its not illegally occupied by Israel then?
The 1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo ended and specified the major consequence of the war: the forced Mexican Cession of the territories of Alta California and Santa Fe de Nuevo México to the United States in exchange for $15 million. In addition, the United States assumed $3.25 million of debt owed by the Mexican government to U.S. citizens. Mexico accepted the loss of Texas and thereafter cited the Rio Grande as its national border.
