In the "you can't make this up" category of epic stupid, Michele Bachmann took to twitter to blame the catastrophic floods in South Carolina on the US, "Turning it's back on Israel," and the resulting apparent punishment from God.

@MicheleBachmann

Nice way to trivialize the horrific loss of livelihood, loved ones, and property of an entire region. Does she really believe this, or is it desperate pandering to the stupid-side of the religious right?

really?....there are still people that listen to this egghead?....why does it seem we talk about the "crazies" as being legitimate speakers of social discourse?....remember Billy Carter? even liberals didn't listen to him, and his own brother jimmy the president, only spoke about him a few times in public....."crazies" don't need a voice here on ATS

Goodness Gracious...
It's scary to think I'd sleep better
if fake politicians from shows like
West Wing and Veep were in charge.

I figured someone would say that it is punishment for the church shootings.
Bonkers Bachman.

Which is why she will remain irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.

All the appearances on Hannity, or his radio show, and on Limbaughs won't change the fact that many, maybe even most, Americans regard her as a total and complete loon.

How she gets reelected is quite beyond me.

...

Actually, no it's not. It's the all too typical American voter voting name recognition, and/or straight party ticket.

...and we wonder why we are where we are today.

I don't see where she mentioned God. She could be talking about karma too.

At least you can cancel them after one season if they suck...

Too bad it's virtually impossible to do that in real life.

Politicians that attribute natural disasters to unrelated politics that have nothing to do with the weather should be voted out of office immediately.

If that were the case then there would be no candidates left.

She has nearly a quarter-million twitter followers, and this insane tweet got 225 retweets -- which is no irrelevant in the social media universe.

If that is the price we must pay to have politicians willing to actually legislate according to evidence and science instead of superstition and rhetoric, then so be it.

I'm a lifetime liberal Democrat so I really try hard to look at both sides but it's still hard not to conclude the right wing''s loonies are more prominent, loonier and afforded a seat at the table more so than on the left.

Bachman was elected to the U.S. congress from the suburbs of a major city, she ran for president, had Republican donors, made it through Iowa. As pointed out, she has been a prominent figure in the right wing radio/internet/TV echo chamber.

Where is there an example of an equally prominent Democrat saying insane things like this? Or like Carson or Huckabee or a number of others for that matter.

Not a rhetorical question. Maybe I'm overlooking something in my bias.

Punishing people that had no say in the politics regarding Israel?

Doesn't sound like "God" I want to have anything to do with anyway...

You must be new to batshat Bachmann. According the her whenever America doesn't kiss Israel's butt God punishes America. What is really sad is how many Americans thinks the same way she does.

You forget this is a world where people cannot articulate their thoughts in 140 characters or less-and half of those words are 'like' and the other half are either acronyms or shorthand. #YOLO #LMFAO #OMG #IRL.
