What?

Peter King (R) is on CNN right now talking about what wonderful address it was, which BTW was at the invitation of Speaker Boehner (R).

It wasn't about left/right - it was about right/wrong.

The pope said his piece. You hated him before he ever even began speaking.

He said his peace.

'Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family.'

And without mentioning abortion by name – or the name of the embattled domestic Planned Parenthood organization – Francis told lawmakers that the 'Golden Rule ... reminds us of our responsibility to protect and defend human life at every stage of its development.'

Well I don't get my morality from neither the church or state, or CNN.

Gee I wonder where that billionaire get's his 'humanity' from.

Better yet where does a politician get theirs.

Just cross-posting this -- I wrote it immediately after note-taking during the Pope's address to Congress.

These are the things he said.....

He stated that human life is precious at every stage of development.

He mentioned very early - in his intro paragraph - "The land of the free, and the home of the brave"
personal and social responsibility

focusing on the common good is the job of congress

Stimulate growth

Have JUST LEGISLATION
Most people work for the benefit of their families, and they NEED JOBS - also retirees need to be cared for

OFFER A HELPING HAND TO THE NEEDY

MOVE FORWARD WITH DIGNITY

He mentioned THE GOLDEN RULE specifically,
jobs more important than money, and opportunities.

END THE ARMS TRADE.
Care for the Earth.
Stop war.
Pool resources and talents for a NEW SOCIAL CONSENSUS.
Avoid NEW FORMS OF SLAVERY.

REHAB, not prison.
GREATEST COMMON GOOD was a main point.
MOVE FORWARD WITH DIGNITY
COOPERATE generously and stand in GLOBAL SOLIDARITY.

Distribution of wealth and responsible use of resources and technology.
End the cycle of poverty.
Restore hope, right wrongs, offer HOPE and HEALING,
and of course, respect.

NO mention of sexual orientation - just emphasis that families are the heart of America.
Reminded we were all children of immigrants or foreigners ourselves.

Refugees must be embraced, immigrants escaping strife and poverty must be given hope for the better life they want.
POOL RESOURCES.
Confront polarization.
Security and equal care for ALL.

A good political leader must always have openness, and will END CONFLICTS.

********************** End of notes *********

So - neo, what do you think about these principles? The ones I heard him say. Verbatim, taking notes.

I prefer the DL instead of the Pope.

I agree with you again.

However, when it comes to Climate Change and politics, the DL is lockstep in line with the Pope.

Repent! Pope Francis lectures America on immigration, abortion, gay marriage and the Syrian refugee crisis in FIRST EVER Capitol Hill address by a sitting pontiff

Nothing 'confrontational' there now is there.

He took the top major most debatable issue in America today, hell he is just like any other fundamentalist, politician and clima change scammer in the world.

What? Sorry, not a lucid sentence.....let's move on to your next remarks, though:

Because that is what that means.

No more ABORTIONS.

(Whatever "that" is.....I know exactly what it means)

Yes, he's anti-abortion!! Did I omit that part?

No, I did not. (And I have never, ever on this site voiced my opinion about abortion. Ever. Because I don't have one.)

Pope’s call for immigration leniency unlikely to change debate

Only about 450 of its 800 or so residents actually hold citizenship, according to a 2012 study by the Library of Congress. That study said citizens are either church cardinals who reside in the Vatican, the Holy See’s diplomats around the world, and those who have to reside in the city because of their jobs, such as the Swiss Guard.

This stuff is just priceless.

Yep!

I have no quarrel with ANY of those statements.

Not sure what the OP meant to point out by showing it; it's the same thing the Pope was saying.

But, some people are too hysterical to listen to either of them.

It must be that the Pope is thought of more of a celebrity than
the actual "man" that hands down the religious orders.

Even with Joe Biden's public statement that he believes
life begins at conception...he has now been told he should
not come to receive communion.

2 Catholic Bishops: Biden Not to Speak at Catholic Schools; Should Not Receive Communion; Risks Cooperating With Evil

Although Vice President Joe Biden says he is “a practicing Catholic” and believes that life begins at conception -- but he would not “say that” to people who “have a different view” -- his former bishop forbade Biden from speaking at Catholic schools, and the bishop for Colorado Springs has said Biden should not present himself for Communion at Mass.

In a document cited by the Wilmington, Del., office of Biden’s former bishop – Bishop Michael A. Saltarelli, who died in 2009 – it states that “Catholic politicians who take pro-abortion legislative positions … should never be put forward as a model of a Catholic in public life,” and “their acting consistently to support abortion on demand risks making them cooperators in evil in a public manner.”

And therein lies one of the problems with having a worship the Pope day.
The truth is not pleasant.

Whitewash is the only "acceptable way" it is allowed to be broadcast to the public.

Bishop Sheridan also made that there were certain non-negotiable issues that, if supported by a Catholic politician, would prohibit them from receiving Communion. They include abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, euthanasia and same-sex marriage.

ETA: Now...that is hard line. Joe Biden is not a bishop...
to bar him from speaking at a school, or confront him to
prevent him from partaking in communion?

For heavens sake, he was sitting visible right behind the pope during
the Cause Celebre. But yah, its a love fest.

So..er...what is the point that you are trying to make - that religious leaders use social/moral pressure to make people behave as they wish?

Is the catholic church unique in that?? I wouldn't have thought so.....??

AFAIK I have never made any issue of any religious politician addressing congress......so yeah, I would be.

That doesn't mean I agree with Huckabee......nor will I stop berating him as an idiot. But he's an idiot because he's an idiot, not because he's a religious politician.

It's no skin off my nose if he is invited to talk somewhere and does so.....except for the comments about content as above.
