MILITANTS from a group led by al-Qaeda ally Abu Musab al-Zarqawi said they had killed five men and warned those who work with the US-backed government they faced the same fate.

Video footage showed five men in civilian clothes lined up and shot repeatedly in the back. It was posted on the Internet today from the al-Qaeda Organisation of Holy War in Iraq.

Five men in civilian clothes were found shot dead in Ramadi, capital of Anbar province, on Monday. A note said they were policemen killed by guerrilla fighters.

A masked militant on the video today said: "These apostates are ... allies with (Iraqi Prime Minister Iyad) Allawi's apostate government and support the American enemy.

I really don't think the Iraqi election(s) can be held on the proposed date. Security is lacking.

I have to agree with you on that one sanc'. I really have not seen that much in depth discussion around here regarding the Possibility of this Not happening. We have been told time and time again that they will go on, but seriously, How? The place is still a mess and would probably discourage people from voting. Either way I believe there would be some sort of contreversey, but a Lack of People voting would be the biggest of all. I have always thought that a date should have never been handed out, especially since everything that has happened since the "End of Major Combat" was announced. They didn't expect this huge uprising from insurgents, and thus now do not have enough troops to be able to sustain a big enough time frame of Peace in order for every Iraqi to feel somewhat safe when voting. If this does go off, I see it as a big letdown with Low Voter turnout. Things would only seem, to me, to get worse from here.

Its imperative that the vote happens on the said date. If not, it will show that the insurgency has the power to manipulate the interim government and the US led Coaltion. Backing down will only cause more rhetoric within the country, and tells the people of that country that all efforts, besides the ongoing attacks and those who perished trying to build that country and get it to this stage, that they died for nothing that the government and MNF (Multi-National Force aka Coalition Forces) has lied to the people. Having this election and going ahead with it, and it succeeding, YES there will be bloodshed and probably major attacks around and on that date, shows the people and the insurgency that plagues the country, that they will win, they will succeed and they will build a better Iraq.

The insurgency doesnt want a government, they want to scare the people of Iraq in not voting as well as not supporting MNF and the interim govt, so that they can succeed in settign up their own style of govt, ex. Taliban in Afghanistan and thats the direction its trying to head now, but it wont work. The insurgency is small in numbers, eventually, watch and see, once the elections are held, govt is fully established, laws in place and the strife for improvement, control of borders, military back on its feet and edging towards progress, the insurgency's plague will die in numbers vastly, cause they have lost ground. The people will see the strength within the seats of govt, and the power that enables the country to progress, will no longer support or aid or no longer take crap from the insurgency any longer.

At this point in time, the elections and security are priority, breaking down the insurgency and disrupting its ops, is secondary. But once the elections are held, the MNF turns its role directly to SEARCH and DESTROY all insurgency and putting whatever isnt destroyed on the run and pursuing them so that the newly establsihed Iraqi govt and concentrate getting on their feet and ensuring that they have a foothold.

And as far as chillign videos of executions, notice beheadings are no longer happening like before, WHY? Cause it no longer has the effect on people, so they will use whatever necessary means possible. Executions by terrorists are soley for media attention and scare tactics. Basically, the majority of the insurgency, doesnt even have the stomach to do what they do to people, plus religious wise in the Middle East, its highly sinful. Now what Zarqawi does, he thinks he will go to some heaven and Muhammad will except him, well Muhammad got news for him when he gets there. (Note: Not trying to start a religious debate here either, just a comment)

The elections will be held on January 30; I cannot foresee anything that would stop them from happening. The terrorists (calling them insurgents is too nice - you can't polish a turd) are doing everything to intimidate the people and low turnout is a very real possibility. This will have the effect of some calling the elections invalid.

I agree with mscbkc070904; once the elections have been held, the terrorism will abate rapidly and decidedly. It will be like the air being let out of a balloon. The terrorists will then turn their efforts toward the overthrow of the Saudi family.

didn't anyone hear about the 700 members of the Iraqi Election committee quiting the other day, all 700 of them resigned because they don't feel safe helping with the elections.

Iraq's electoral commission denied reports by the al-Jazeera Arabic TV channel that 700 election workers in Mosul have resigned.

"That's not true. We have our staff in Mosul and al-Anbar," Abdul Hussein al-Hindawi, the head of Iraq's Independent Electoral Commission, told the AFP news agency.

The city has been at the centre has become a centre of insurgent activity.

and whilte the elctions gets closer, there are more and more attacks on iraqi army and police forces.

A car bomb has ripped through a bus carrying members of the Iraqi National Guards in the city of Balad, killing 25 of them in the deadliest attack of its kind in nearly four months.

Usama al-Samarrai, an Iraqi journalist, told Aljazeera quoting official sources that the bus was carrying 25 guardsmen and they were all killed in Sunday's attack.

The blast, which was caused by a car bomb, took place near the Iraqi National Guard (ING) headquarters close to the US military base in Balad, 60km north of Baghdad, he said.

Attacks of this kind are occurring frequently as the January 30 election date draws near, al-Samarrai said, pointing out that another car-bombing took place barely a few days ago targeting Iraqi policemen in the Salah al-Din governorate and killing many of them.

security?
what security?
if the guards army is attacked, you know there is no security!

it is going to be very hard to have "secure and peacefull" elections in iraq.

As for the election, it will take place on the date stated, and the winner will be the pro american puppet goverment regardless of the number of votes against them.
And really... it is unfair to label your soldiers fair brave people, thye bomb from afar, rape 12 year old children and torture woman until they die. You tell me who the real terrorists are.

All I have read is allegations were made about rape of childred. Do you have proof this actually took place?

Sorry I will not take al jazeera nor tabloid news as a valid source.

This is in accord with Qur'an 48:29, "Muhammad is the messenger of Allah. And those with him are hard against the disbelievers and merciful among themselves."

"Here is another bunch of apostates in the land of Iraq, another group of the doomed soldiers who came to the blessed jihad land of Ramadi to support the apostate Allawi government and help the unjust American enemy," said the man reading the statement.

"As usual, jihadists have no mercy when it comes to such infidel souls," he said.

I'm waiting for CAIR to sue them for their hate speech...

It is very hard anywhere in this world to have secure and peaceful elections anymore.

It's a shame that the terrorists are hell-bent on murdering the Iraqi citizenry. They also destroy the oil pipelines, which is the lifeblood of the Iraqi people.
It makes no sense at all; these terrorists have a train-wreck inside their heads.

Im not sure what you are trying to do by insulting the US army or its citizens, but from what i have seen, you seem to take great pleasure out of doing it.

I think maybe you ought to get some of your facts right before you throw insults about. The following thread is the same sort of remarks from you.

www.abovetopsecret.com...

Judging by your points total you havent been here long, so i would tend to err on the side of caution before anymore derogatory remarks are made.

Just a tip for you so you dont end up upsetting anymore people.

No, I got it right the first time. The current income is about $12B/year, far below the potential, and while earmarked for rebuilding Iraq, doesn't come close to what will be needed.

Oh hold on, I found a story on BBC about pedophilia, but it involves Muslim clerics, not U.S. soldiers. Somehow I'm not surprised.

news.bbc.co.uk...

Souljah, why are you on the side of the pedophiles?
