It's nice to see a Christian who not only DOESN'T deny science, but actively promotes it.
I think the vast majority of Christians believe in science. At least that's the case in the UK where things like creationism are not taught as fact and the Church of England announced some time ago that it was pants.

...The Tunguska event which some Bible scholars quietly assume was the moment Satan was thrown down to earth occurred near the Stony Tunguska River, in what is now Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia, on the morning of June 30, 1908.
The statement, released following a meeting in Paris between Li and French President Francois Hollande, said China aimed to reduce its carbon dioxide emissions per unit of GDP by 60-65% by 2030, from 2005 levels.
The carbon intensity target builds on a previous plan to cut carbon intensity by 40-45% by 2020.
China also aimed to increase the share of non-fossil fuels in its primary energy consumption to about 20% by 2030, the statement added.
Beijing previously set a goal of getting around 15% of its energy from clean sources by 2020.

Yeah, I don't get the criticisms of the Church in that regard. It's just history and tradition - and tradition is slow to change. And some of it I personally wouldn't want to change. It's just one superficial thing, the least important aspect of Papal traditions.

True. Jesus loves us all and no matter your imperfections he will forgive you if you simply ask and put your faith in him. His warm embrace is open to anyone and any who genuinely accept it can become a better person.

Not related to Francis, but China is already starting to move into the 21st century.

John 15:18,19
18"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. 19"If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.…
Mathew 10:22
22"You will be hated by all because of My name, but it is the one who has endured to the end who will be saved.
Mathew 24:4-13
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

The pope.....really needs to stay out of political things. The catholic church is the reason why we have so many issues as it is. Its why most left england and yet here we go again a pope trying to tell everyone what to do. Until he renounces all wealth and the vatican dissolves as a state and spreads its wealth to the poor and needy i agree its just words.

Man, I hope not. I didn't know that that speech wasn't in the public domain yet. That is unfortunate...

He's not a real christian though. If Christianity is defined by the Bible, Catholicism barely Christian and mainly pagan.

Pope Francis quoted from Martin Luther King, Jr.'s famous "I Have a Dream" speech.
Makes me wonder if he had to pay license to Dr. King's estate to use part of speech or in end they might sue him...

The only legal way to reproduce King’s work — at least until it enters the public domain in 2038 — is to pay for a licensing fee, rates for which vary. (Individuals visiting the King Center can buy a recording of the “I have a dream” speech for $20. Licenses for media outlets run into the thousands.)
