The right’s Planned Parenthood trap: Manufactured controversies, pliant Democrats...

As an election season lurches into gear, surreptitiously recorded videos targeting a left-leaning organization appear on an obscure right-wing website. Soon, the videos are spread by the conservative blogosphere, denounced on right-wing talk radio, broadcast by Fox News and its cable news counterparts and debated in Congress. Within days of their first appearance, the videos become pretext for Republican calls to defund the targeted liberal activist group.

The liberal group in question this time, Planned Parenthood, became one of the stars of Wednesday night’s GOP debate as the Republican presidential candidates fell over one another proclaiming their support for defunding it.

Though Planned Parenthood is the right’s current target, this plan of attack found its first success six years ago with conservative provocateur James O’Keefe’s undercover footage of ACORN offices. When Congressional Democrats caved to GOP pressure and voted to defund ACORN in late 2009, it proved to be a historic success for the right. For decades, conservative activists and their Republican allies have been working to undermine financial and organizational support for the Democratic Party by “defunding the left.” The result has been a steady erosion of the Democratic Party’s base, part of a larger shift in the political playing field that has empowered conservative interest groups and activists.

Most of those griping about the right wing's expose of PP are people that haven't even looked at the full scope of the videos, including Hillary Clinton.

I always find when people defend that organization that was started by a racist to be repulsive.

Whats even more frightening is the fact that people actually source Salon as a reputable news source......

That company long ago gave up the ghost for any sort of objective reporting , or even investigation......

I remember not too long ago, and I cant remember what the subject was, but one of their reporters went on a tirade against some political person, talking about their wild conspiracy theories.........lol

Turns out one of his main points about his conspiracy theories didnt even come from the political pundit, it came from Salons own article written 5 yrs ago......

I do not vote, but have strong views concerning the take over of global economics by corporations and environmental collapse, and human rights. They do not kill infants to get body parts at Planned Parenthood. They do make a little money selling fetal tissue for research. They really do not care about abortions, they just want to get people to come to their side. These videos are not about the sanctity of life, but about political maneuvering. And by all means move as far right as you can so we can make laws to halt legalized abortion, Aid to Deponent Children, Food stamps, and unemployment checks. Also lower the tax rate some more for the ultra wealthy to 25%, instead of increasing it to 90% like it was in the fifties, and we had a middle class, and the poor were taken care of.
These videos are like the videos of the moon landing being filmed in a studio. They WANT TO SHOCK YOU so you change your mind about government spending. Which is now all Chinese money anyway.

Oh I forgot, when I die I am donating my body for medical research at our local University medical center.

Did you even read the article? It was well researched and there were many references to anyone could google and see are true. So mr. reporter do your homework!

No one is trying to "defund" the Democratic party. Organizations receiving public funding are not part of the political parties nor are they supposed to be political in nature. Acorn was advocating breaking if not breaking the law and their funds were removed. As far as I know PP isn't doing anything illegal even if their actions are morally questionable. They are different situations and I doubt PP is in any danger of being defunded.

I think the biggest Democrat "defunders" are the Democrat voters and the Democrat candidates.

After last year's slaughterhouse elections, you have to wonder who is winning the propaganda contests.

You miss my point. If one side thinks you are killing a human being,a totally defenceless one at that, it's not merely a belief. You'd be asking them to accept the murder of a human. Using your logic, shouldn't the human infant be able to live their lives as they see fit?

I think you miss my point. Do you want to be told what to do with the most personal choices in your life??? Do you like to have your choices removed so that only one is left which you are forced to accept??? Didn't think so.

Look, you can't control something like this. If you don't like Abortion, fine, don't get one. If you don't like others having them, fine, do something positive like coming up with alternatives. But telling them "No" and removing that choice which is theirs to make and not yours to make for them, will never achieve whatever it is you think you're goal is.

At the same time you're refusing them alternatives you're leaving them and the child with a very probable future of suffering, neglect, abuse and a substandard living condition. All the Anti-Choice crowd just love to take choices away from others while many of them still get to enjoy them. All you're doing is making life harder for the people who already have it hard enough.

Now, to your questions. It's not an infant. It's still connected to the mother and when done properly isn't a developed human at all. Sure there are some late term abortions and that is more unfortunate but still it's not a developed human yet. We can argue all day about the morality but I'm not wasting my time with that. It all comes down to the fact that it's not your choice to make for others. So stop forcing yourself into other peoples lives. You hate it when others do it to you so stop doing it to other people. It's their choice. Let them do what they will with their lives. Focus on your life and stop with the double standards. If you want freedom of choice in life, which we all want, then be good enough to give it to others.

Do you mean like being told how much money I get to keep in my wallet, and like having to ask the state for permission to buy a firearm, the state dictating to me how many rounds it can fire with the pull of the trigger to how many rounds it can hold?

But the state making those personal choices is AOK!

God forbid the state telling a woman not to kill her child.

Well now that would be UNACCEPTABLE.
