Separation of Church and State has to do with not letting religious memes influence the government and its policies. It says nothing about not wanting religious people to be patriotic.

What exactly is the difference between "in" and "of" the world? If it is in the world, it is of it. you cannot separate American patriotism with the country. A country has to do with geographical location, it has to do with the world. If you are patriotic for America then you are referring to the land mass. America does not mean freedom and freedom does not mean America.

You said it's ok to love things in the world, the bible says it's not ok.
Either way though, the common rule of society is of the world. It is not a physical thing, but it is from the physical world. If you did not think of it, you got it second hand meaning it is of the world.
Romans 12
2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Revelation 7
1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.

People who are willing to die for their country are what we call patriots, in that sense Christian soldiers were making themselves an enemy of God when they decided to die for their country.
Not trying to ruffle any feathers here, just calling it how I see it.

"The heart of the wise inclines to the right, but the heart of the fool to the left." Ecclesiastes 10: 2 Everybody uses the Bible for their on purpose, especially the non Christians. My history professor said that separation of church and state was to keep the government out of church not the other way around.
