Isn't he just talking about joint administration? They get to live there, keep their British status, but Argentina get a say in some stuff?

Still pretty bad, but I'm almost certain he wasn't talking about outright control.

Hey, America still gave us loads of cool stuff, a lot of countries have contributed to the modern world as far as engineering and tech is concerned......even some of the more unlikely ME countries before they became warzones.

I only mentioned British examples because the French Argie former colonist that started this thread was slating my home turf :-p

Lol the French.....one thing you guys and Americans always agree on.... The French..... Nothing more need be said!

The argies... They sure are mad about that thumping they instigated aren't they.

I mean how dare you not get beat when they start a fight!!!

Lol

What shocked me about that conflict, Thatcher (may she Rot In Pieces) pretty much said to the Frogs (that's English for French), give us the codes for the exocet missiles you sold the Argies, or we WILL nuke them into oblivion.....

Welcome to ATS, I can see you being here a long time and becoming a valued and well respected member.

After reading your OP I won't dignify it by giving any sort of detailed response, however, I would love to have the opportunity to meet you face to face and discuss your bigoted, inane and inaccurate post in person.

You've got to admit though, that youse guys haven't exactly been angels throughout your history and have been belligerent since the days of the Plantagenets. However, you're not the only ones and I do think the OP is being a tad unfair there.
In the case of Aotearoa/New Zealand, at least there was quite a reasonable treaty signed. The problem was that it was reneged as soon as the ink had dried. However, at least the Treaty is still binding, in a peculiar sense, but it doesn't seem to cost The Crown.
Every empire has its day, and then another arises. That is the stupidity of Humans. Currently it would appear we are in thrall to the United States of American Empire, and they are as bad as any of the preceeding ones.
Leave it out you wankers and trust humanity.
Empires suck big fat ones.

Oh come on now, we ( the US) have brought a kinder gentler sort of World domination to mankind.

Hopefully it is the Aussie's next time around... As long as it isn't those evil Canadians.... Always acting so nice and polite.... You aren't fooling anyone, we know you are jealous that we have real bacon, not Canadian bacon( ham).

Honestly though, can you blame them?

Throw out the trump card and demand the ability to cancel the enemies advantage.. Very smart!!

Besides everyone knows the " cheese eating surrender monkies" French don't have a spine to speak of.

Lol, at France

"French Argie former colonist " lol.

Scary thing is If labour get in we may have no Falklands at all
. I liked him until I read that.

Said what exactly? There is sooooooooooo much BS floating around at the moment. Corbyn will be selectively (ie miss) quoted for years as the rabid right press try to get rid of him. He's too damned honest!

What he did say about the Falklands is that there is a problem at the moment with the restrications that Argentina have imposed on trade. These have occurred elsewhere around the world and the solution has been ....suprise suprise....a compromise. and that maybe that is what is needed here. He did state that they should remain British (but the right wing press won't print that will they)

No, and who has?

Do you think the Mongols were caring sort when their hordes were rampaging through the world?
How about Attila?
What about the excesses of the Turks and Ottomans when they were managing their Empires?
Or how about The Romans? Of course they didn't commit any heinous acts during their Empire building.
Then there's The Aztecs. They ripped the still beating hearts out of literally millions of subjugated people when they had an Empire.

All of these empires completely destroyed countless civilizations and societies.

Chinese history is littered with atrocities committed during various Empire building.

Something more contemporary to The British Empire?
Look at The Spanish and French. Their excesses far outstripped anything the British did.
Hell, even the Belgians were notoriously more cruel in their colonial dealings.

All empires are built on the blood of others.
That is an undeniable FACT.

When judging The British Empire perhaps you should try to put it in context with the time and the morals and standards of that time.
Sure, The British Empire had blood on its hands, but no more so than its contemporaries yet we never hear people bemoaning the French and Spanish of today do we.
Strange that.

The difference between the British and Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Belgian Empires of the time? - The British were better and far more efficient in managing their empire - much of what we see today is some sort of residual jealousy over that.

I think a careful examination of history will show that many of the evils you attribute to the British would be more correctly assigned to the East India Trading Co. and their influence on the British government. They were like the role model for today's corporations, i. e. wars for profit, exploiting indigenous populations, raping resources, etc. The EITC was the primary motivator and benefactor of the Opium Wars.
