This isn't so much a thread about a news article as it is a little info presentation. I follow this youtube channel for mostly their game related videos, but I quite enjoyed this video series they did. It uses a lighthearted tone so it isn't hard to get into, but is quite detailed in its content. I think it is complete now, but they may do an extra bonus episode about any small errors they made or some things they couldn't get into in the main series. The first episode of the series is this:

Now of course, everyone KNOWS that the first crusade was essentially just a godless bloodbath, so while this series occasionally touches on that point, it isn't the focus.
People here (and elsewhere), in some misguided attempt to justify it, often say that the Crusades were a response to muslim aggression, but again, most know that's kind of a silly argument, and anyhow, that isn't what made this video so interesting.

The thing I really like is how while a lot of people like to romanticise or glorify the past (Real, honourable "God's" men, fighting for justice, etc, etc.), this series makes it quite evident that the leaders back then were just as crooked and self-serving as they are today, and while the common people may have had the occasional "true-spirited" individual, all that that got them was more easily and naively embroiled into doing stuff that most definitely wasn't "God's Will". Religion wasn't so much a "cause" or even a motivation, as it was a trick used to herd the cannon fodder (or in this case infantry fodder) so as to gain more land.
About how even then, like now, it wasn't about honour or freedom or God's will, but rather, greed and money and power and land.

A link to the rest of the series, continuing with episode 2

Now I'm one who generally HATES it when people provide only a video as a source of information, but again, as I said, this isn't a developing news story, or a conspiracy expose, but rather, a lighthearted but indepth coverage of the first crusade, so hopefully you'll enjoy it as I did.

I'm certainly no fan of what ISIS is doing. Don't see what that has to do with Islam, though. Or where I mentioned being horrified about anything (not that I am or am not, just pointing out that you're reading your own bias into what I said, which isn't what you want to think I said).

But if you're attempting to play "tit for tat" (a fairly useless game here, if you ask me), in the same vein, judging from your avatar glorifying these horrific events, "Christianity" doesn't seem to have changed much either, then...

IT hasnt? Christianity went through a reformation.......and Christianity isnt rampaging across the world cutting peoples heads off , selling women and children into sex slavery......Full stop

It is about Islam, they do it for Islam, they do it to establish a caliphate which is inherently Islamic

Infact the caliphate was intact when the crusades happened, as they were slaughtering people then, they are slaughtering people now

So no Islam hasnt changed......

When you see militant christians beheading people and selling those into slavery who dont agree with Christians, and take control of an area the size of the UK, then you can make that claim

Until then it holds no water

Excellent! A little history never hurt anyone except the propaganda artist. I have read from different sources how the Crusaders did not discriminate on who they killed.

LOL none of that was "Christian Ideals" and they werent holy wars....

I cant believe you even put that drivel into the same catagory as a group of people who are flat out telling you they want a world wide caliphate and will kill anyone who stands in their way......its Islam

And they are still doing it.....

Do you even know history?

As for the last part of your post, that question doesnt even make sense.......

Spain, under Muslim rule, became a beacon of art, science and culture for Europe. Mosques, palaces, gardens, hospitals and libraries were built. Canals were repaired and new ones were dug. New crops were introduced from other parts of the Muslim empire and agricultural production increased. Andalus became the granary of the Maghrib. Manufacturing was encouraged and the silk and brocade work of the peninsula became well known in the trading centers of the world. Andalus was divided into four provinces and efficient administration was established. Cities increased in size and prosperity. Cordoba, the capital, became the premier city of Europe and by the 10th century had over one million inhabitants.

You've read the wrong history books I'm afraid.

That was then, what has the caliphate brought NOW besides death? The whole culture is death....

The same culture who stone women to death and kill gays?

Its a fine bubble you made for yourself, somehow you think people will war over ideals. We dont. Ideals are religious, everything else is about survival. Now everything you learned about chivalry and virtues, they are religious, not a human aspect of survival.

Haven't watched yet and know nothing about the authors BTW but sounds interesting...

Debunking Extra Credits

these videos are poorly researched, heavily biased, ahistorical garbage...

their video makes it very clear that they don't know what they are talking about...

We are J. Stephen Roberts, Hugh James, and Rand. This channel deals with the Crusades in their fullest extent, including the Crusades in the Holy Land, Spain, and the Baltic.

I know all to well who he is, do you know who the Sumerians were? Do you know who Abraham was? Do you know what the Navagraha is? If not you still live in the american bubble this world was invented when columbus discovered America.

Do you know why the Incas and the Pyramids look similar, my ancestry built this world, dont think a reformist who got them burned at the stake was a unique figure. Marthin was an ambitious man who doesnt deserve to be mentioned in the history books.
