Crane Collapse Kills Over 100 at World's Holiest Mosque In Mecca

Its tragic what happened but I am more shocked and appalled by the absolute ignorance and venom of other people on ATS and our good folks the Christians.

Someone mentioned that they deserved it for being idolaters - let me clarify something, the black cube is a focal point for the people of the world to focus their prayers towards, not the same as an effigy of a man on a cross who is the son of god but is also a part of a schizophrenic being also called god...

But these are moot points lets not get dragged into a stick war, what I want to highlight is what is going on around the world, the multitude of sever storms that have occurred like Japan and the floods only the other day and previously the other extreme weather fronts.

What does this tell us as a human race? We have failed each other and the world. This is god's wrath (or nature or whatever you want to call it), eventually we will pay for our ignorance and even the holiest site is not safe it's god's way of saying "You worship me, not the world" but look at Mecca, building upon buildings being erected all to appease worshippers apparently but its obvious that money is driving the construction and what is more obvious a sign from god that we have lost our way then something like this.

I find all loss of life tragic, from events like 9/11 to the hundreds of thousands of innocent lives lost in the name of "War on Terror" to the events unfolding now, they are literally biblical (excuse the pun) but they are mentioned in detail in Christian traditions and Islamic traditions through Hadith and Muslims are warned that more calamities will fall on the earth because people lost their humanity and divinity.

Is anyone familiar with the Saudi legal system, vis-a-vis compensation for the families of these tragic victims?
If, as seems obvious, the Binladen construction group is reponsible for securing those cranes...and insuring the safety of the worshipors...can lawsuits against the company take place?

Here's a list of some current twitter posts about the victims' compensation. This list isn't official, so there are both user posts and posts from different officials of various regions. But at least it will give you a better idea of the situation.

Also, individual travelers might have personal insurance policies. So their traveler's insurance or life insurance may cover it. Travel groups (tours) may also have or even require separate insurance policies, too. And these don't include the different governments that seem to be offering compensation for citizens of their countries.

Posts here are appalling,I am surprised at what i am reading. The level of apathy to those who have been killed. How many people did U.S kill in the Vietnam war again ? Should i use that comparison to 9/11 and say "revenge". Or are the killing of hundreds and thousands of people after 9/11 as direct consequence of US occupation of M.E Irrelevant ? I don't get it, whats the logic here ?

Oh you get it. There are some people who just don't like Muslims. There are others who don't necessarily like or dislike Muslims, but are weary or suspicious of us.

Many of the ones who just don't like us are happy when something bad happens to Muslims, regardless of whether or not the people involved had done anything wrong. It's basically blaming all of us for the sins or crimes of a few. If you think this is bad, you should've seen the original thread, the posts that have now been deleted, and/or the thread(s) when some of the Bin Ladens died in an accident.

Remember, there's a reason why hate speakers can make lucrative amounts of money & gain status. Because there are always some people who agree with their words, regardless of the religion ideology, nationality, or demographic.

Tragic from a humanistic viewpoint...those who died seemed so devoted to their belief.

Most people are innocent due to ignorance and cover-ups/misleading by govt, media, various industries, religions, etc...Hmm...seems that their god demands human sacrifice as well and he is merciful to use only one of the cranes...lol

Just an update, but RT.com has a new article on the Saudi government's new review of this accident. Here are a few interesting quotes from it.

The Saudi Binladin Group (SBG), run by Osama bin Laden’s brother, has been banned from taking on new work, and will have its current projects reviewed, at the behest of Saudi King Salman, following the deadly Mecca crane collapse last week which killed 107 people.

According to official state mouthpiece, the Saudi Press Agency, which cited government investigators, SBG was “partly responsible for the accident” and “had not respected the rules of safety.”

King Salman has announced that the families of all fatally wounded victims, as well as those who received permanent disabilities will be compensated with 1 million riyals ($267,000) and those with treatable injuries will be given half of that sum.

I live in landlocked areas, should we plan all our construction around hurricanes? And if someday a freak hurricane does happen ... should we blame people for not building with hurricanes in mind?
