Yeah it's total nonsense. Most of these people are economic migrants who want our lifestyle without having the guts to make it in their own contries. For sure some are in need and many Syrians are in need of help and sanctuary, but surely Muslims go to Muslim countries and we'll take the Christians to preserve our Judeo Christian heritage.

Halfway serious about that. With a little help from the developed world, what refugee wouldn't want the chance to take control of their own life and build a place to call home? Part of building a homestead is culling the predators and varmints.

The West, in particular the US arming various factions and flooding the areas with weapons is what caused the conflicts in the first place, adding more won't help - see US arms shipments from Libya to Syria which were then used by what became ISIS for example.

Throwing guns left, right and centre just creates more division, genocide and war - it doesn't tackle the root causes of the problems.

For example: Imagine you're one of the refugees who's been in a warzone for years, seen brutal war crimes, decapitations, public executions etc and are forced to flee your home and seek sanctuary elsewhere - you're greeted with a gun, a sandwich and told to 'go home'

Do you

A) Say thankyou and establish a advanced liberal democracy with little/no bloodshed

or

B) Feel pissed off that the West caused all this, establish a caliphate, go on a mass rampage exacting revenge on sworn enemies and then seek to attack the West once these goals and aims have achieved.

Unless someone has saintly patience (which I certainly wouldn't) then scenario B is sadly the only likely outcome. Either way our legacy will come back to haunt us.

Except both those religions were imported - our heritage and legal system is more based on Nordic and Pagan principles and courts. But lets not get facts in the way of Muslim bashing.

I really don't want to give any faction in the ME so much as a slingshot anymore. Enough weaponry. No good can come of it.

Your point is valid, and I am aware of my own country's history of supplying arms for foreign conflicts. It's beside the point, but I would argue that terror groups and despotic regimes will obtain weapons one way or another. An attempt to level the playing field by supplying arms to the 'good guys' is not necessarily a bad thing.

More to the point I suggest an option C:
Say thanks you for the assistance, and decide to use the opportunity to build towards something that may not be fully realized for generations (building a nation out of Libya's fertile ashes)

Or option D:
Say thank you for the assistance and consider immigrating to any number of African or Mid-Eastern nations which are more accessible and far more compatible with their cultural values

These people certainly have no right to be picky about where they land. Circumstances, and a few of their own choices, have put them in a position where they rely on the generosity of others to survive. That is, if they are truly refugees...

Vaguely yes, though practicing is a different story. What I was trying to say was that the judeo-christian belief system is a product of immigration and has little to nothing to do with our laws, legal and moral system, courts, culture etc.. which were all in place a few thousand years earlier in Nordic and Pagan times - those are the true values of the UK - judeo-christian belief just hijacked and assimilated into prior standing festivals and beliefs in order to win over hearts and minds of what was the indigenous population of the time.

The argument you were using is null and void as judeo-christian beliefs are a bastardised version of common beliefs of most cultures - it was just tweaked to fit each countries tradiions and celebrations. Much like the vast majority of Muslims will give presents on Christmas or give food to non-believers on Eid/Ramadan as they're normal people like you and me, not rabid mentals like Wahabi's, Zionists or Evangelists.

Good points but the problem is a lot of nearby countries are barely stable and are on, or have just been through, complete collapse from the Arab Spring or economic and climatic disasters.

In my opinion they have every right to expect the West to take care of them. When the West goes around bombing all countries under the guise of offering hope, liberty, democracy and freedom - it's a bit rich to turn people away who've come seeking that after we've spent trillions blowing their own countries up and spent several billion on advertising the advantages of liberal western democracy over their current state of affairs.

We can't have it both ways, we blow up and destroy a country, we have a moral obligation to help out the victims - if 1% of US military spending was put on humanitarian aid to these areas then there wouldn't be such a huge influx and it would tackle the issue at the root instead of propagating and promoting more wars.

Obviously there'd still be wars and refugees but on nowhere near the scale we're currently seeing, which dates back to the 1950s when the US tried to turn Kabul into Megacity 1 - based on a fundamentally flawed scientific model of society that was designed solely to comete against the USSR - and it can be argued the UK (where I'm from) legacy comes from the attempted UK invasion of Afghanistan in 1839 which was a complete disaster for the UK and sowed the seeds for Afghan/Pashtun area animosity towards the West.
