The first thing a heard about the Phoenix Lights was on the news saying people saw flairs. Apparently various people saw lights, and some saw a 'boomerang' shaped craft with lights. When the the reports were 'investigated' by the mainstream, they seem to have decided the wedge shaped sightings were not credible. I saw no mention of them on TV. I didn't hear about other sightings until later on Coast to Coast AM. So, maybe there was more to the story; or maybe they decided flairs were worthy of national coverage. Either way...

Judging their reliability on a more traditional basis: I remember watching prices on electronics (computers, TVs, etc...). There were some pretty big price cuts well before Black Friday. On Black Friday the news was talking about how the big retailers were pulling out all the stops and offering incredible deals. People were trampling each other to death in some places (literally), pouring into the stores. When I looked at the prices I'd been tracking that day, I saw nothing really special. The best deals were only available in limited quantities, you'd have to be one of the first in to get them. Some of the items with the best deals from before Black Friday even went back up to full price! Now, if the news reported that most people won't be getting those deals that look to good to be true, and some items were taken off sale; and told people you can just calm down and take it easy, they need your business and they'll still want your business after Black Friday; I'd have a lot more respect for them.

I've found a lot of other mainstream news reports to be sensationalism as well.

A com relay definitely sounds logical. My image searches for lighter than air relays only show things that look like balloons and blimps though. The Sky Lifter has a very interesting design though; although it should move more smoothly. I once saw a loose mylar balloon wobbling; it didn't speed up as it tilted though.

If we look at what I saw as a balloon there are some oddities. A balloon would be most stable with the pointy end weighted and facing down; pointing the narrow end up is just plain weird. Maybe the lights gave me the wrong impression of the shape, or maybe my memory is playing tricks on me? How would the Sky Lifter look if you put a light on each propeller and stuck one on top? If the light were stuck on top of an antenna it could look taller. It makes sense.

But if such a thing were commonly used, why hasn't it been displayed as the prime candidate for UFOs? The government has come up with some pretty far off explanations (#2 on the Pretty Bear list). Why not just show us their balloons and let everything get back to normal?

Very interesting thread... mostly for the comments about UFO thread comments, heh, and I like KPB's list. But the initial sighting seems credible... like many, many, many others.

Now, there ARE strange mechanical looking things seen in the skies... and that statement, unfortunately, is the only definite fact one can glean from even years of study... but wow, the hypothesis as to the what and whys are voluminous... sometimes ingenious, and varied in likelihood as being THE REAL FINAL ANSWER(s).

But again, there ARE very strange, mechanical looking (and yes, a few biological looking) things seen in the sky... and sometimes underwater... and even on rare occasions, diving into or emerging from seemingly solid ground, etc., etc.

They vary so widely in the details of their appearance that it is difficult to ascribe all of them to secret test (or operational) military craft. And that same problem arises for supposed aliens managing or studying us... if it's all aliens, then jeepers, we are a major focus of some intensive study... or humans are just universally sexy.

There are a few "models" of "craft" seen that match other sightings from years and continents of separation... (like the McKenna saucer with angled antenna seen and photographed in Oregon and then in France, for one) but they're pretty rare. The beings associated with some sightings are more likely to match in appearance than their supposed mechanical transportation, actually... but the variety of beings (allegedly) experienced can (and do) still fill a book.

And that's why so many larger intellects (starting with Bergier, Vallee, Keel, etc) move past the "it's all little grey aliens" or 'it's all secret navy" suppositions... the long history coupled with the variety of machines seen, and the weird actions of the variety of beings experienced in conjunction with them, just add up to ... well, it adds up to nothing totally satisfying to our monkey brains steeped in materialistic physics.

But darnit... some of them surely can be classified as classified vehicles... and the aforementioned threads dealing with the info from astr0 (and others) seem to help with those cases... but there is a much larger, weirder answer(s) for the sightings as a whole... or that's what some, including I, believe.

And it might be a variety of unexpected scenarios (including other dimensions and universes and our state of being) that provide answers.

Because, again, there ARE strange mechanical looking vehicles seen in our skies... and though we need to weed out the poor observations, ignorance and lies, talking about it in a serious and open manner is the only way to finally stagger, bedraggled, stinking and delirious, to the end of this inquiry.

That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose. - Genesis

Yeah, there's that theory.

I doubt anyone alive today will ever make it to the end of this inquiry. "... we need to weed out the poor observations, ignorance and lies, talking about it in a serious and open manner", at least because we can use the practice. I'm not sure where it will lead, but I think that's the only way to go.
