Because other countries have their own laws and the products sold on those countries have to follow those laws, and we are talking about the whole world (expect the countries blacklisted by the US, those to which US companies cannot export services or goods).

If you don't think the current american government is oppressive, you must be young and brainwashed by a corrupt educational system.

This case applies to the whole world, not just the US, so if Microsoft is seen as acting against any countries' laws they will get problems.Or do you really think all other countries will accept something like what has been said on this thread?

I don't think the EU and many of its member nations will stand for it. But they take privacy way more seriously than the (sad) majority of people do in the US.

I have Windows XP running on my old tower. I have Windows Vista Basic running on my old laptop. Should I worry?

Yes, probably. Some of the most virus/malware/PUP infested computers I've worked on were with an OS that was EOL with MS, and no longer getting security updates. It's a good idea to at least upgrade to Windows 7.

Yeah, I'll pass...

Still sittin' on Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I hated Windows 8, and it looks like I'll hate Windows 10, too. Windows 10 is their attempt at trying to make you forget about Windows 8.

Windows 8 isn't bad.. just like Windows 10 and XP, Vista.. etc.. you can customize it so it's less annoying to you. Windows 8.1 performs better than 7.. less crashes and issues. Only annoying bit is Metro.. and the MS shop, trying to emulate Apple. Windows 10 is also fairly configurable.. Microsoft has already pushed out some patches to correct some of their more "limiting" features in Windows 10. So.. I'll wait personally for at least 6 months, and then I'll probably certainly install.

First issue was the hibernate/sleep not working at all anymore, so I had to hold the power button down to reboot, or restart after the laptop attempted sleep mode. Basically it was either full on or full off no in between.

That's odd. You can always run either: shutdown /s (or shutdown /h to see if it will hibernate with that command) - or use the rather useful WMI CLI tools. Then you can run psshutdown also either in a shutdown or a hibernate mode. But.. it shouldn't do that. Either something is conflicting with the OS hibernate / shutdown, or a BIOS setting is whack or something along those lines.

If you are scared that you are being spied on in Windows, open command prompt, type in netstat -a -n and hit enter. Research who owns each IP you are connecting to, research the ports being used. Doubt anyone will find anything malicious in Windows 10, but Windows XP and 7 some of you will find malware that connects back to Russia and or China.

Except that most connections will be through installed software and services in your OS. Not likely to be a direct connection to Russia or China, unless you have a virus or something along those lines. If anyone has any sort of NAT in place, usually a router or switch of some sort, they are only going to see IPs that are being routed via software, services, etc. Which is usually a BUNCH regardless.

PROVE it ends up there !
All I can say is if they don't find a lot of data from somewhere to fill up those humongous data halls, they spent billions for nothing. That doesn't seem likely. You'll likely not find proof of what the NSA is up to exactly, but you can find proof of the size of the data halls, etc, so somewhere one must use deductive reasoning to fill in the gaps.

The Snowden leaks identify the sources of some of the data, but that may not be comprehensive in identifying all sources since Windows 10 wasn't even out when Snowden worked for the NSA.

Gates is involved with pushing Common Core and high stakes computer testing in the US and other countries, so why not?

Gates is also a big proponent of GMO crops and Monsanto.

But while he's working at shoveling tons of GMO poison down our throats, he's also got a doomsday seed vault filled with nothing but organic seeds.

Honestly the guy is a twisted eugenicist who believes in population control. And with GMO linked to sterility it seems like his plan is kill the world birthrate by making almost everyone sterile, then torch the GMO crops and replant with organics after the world is clear.

Does anybody trust a guy like this to have your best interests at heart when designing your computer operating system?

Control everything, this is what the elite are doing. I believe they are scared to death of us. We might find out what they are really up to.

It is a fact that the ruling elite have their own agenda and they are fighting with each other for the most control and a seat at the big round table to rule the world, under their NWO programs.

I trust none of them, because their intentions are not good for We The People.

Thanks to the OP for the video interview with Dr. Albrecht.

I did update from Win7 to Win10 when the offer was made. I like Windows 10 better than 7, but during installation I disabled the data gathering helpers as much as they made it possible to do.

Dr. Albrecht is right about the crazy, greedy, paranoid, malicious, mischievous, capricious techno lunatics who design this factory trawler style spyware. In a word, they are "disturbed". So are the consumers of it.

Personally, I think we are headed for a Dune style telepathic distopia where people and machines just can't stay out of each other's heads.

People who say, "I don't care if they are spying on me because I'm not doing anything wrong" should amend that statement to "I'm not doing anything wrong, so I don't care what crazy, greedy, paranoid, malicious, mischievous, capricious techno sociopath is spying on me."

What's actually more interesting on here is the ego's of some that think they are interesting enough for any official agency to want to snoop on them.

It doesn't matter how much information is gathered or strored until in generates a reason for a HUMAN to actually look at it all it is data.

Paranoia may destroy ya...

Hundreds of Millions of Computers, this stuff is for advertising to the 99th %, the capacity to compile data, trends, social behavior across the masses, many things...

[SNIP]

But they wont be telling your wife lol, they wont be sending in reports on your name in regards to your pirated copy of [SNIP] and having you busted or anything else for that matter unless your seriously implicated in a serious crime and even then they wont care about your penis watching or anything else...

The MONEY is in targeting your purchases

To provide you first with crap you want to buy...

There is NO MONEY for Microsoft in getting you arrested or doing ANYTHING that makes you leave Windows 10, there IS ridiculous amounts of money in having you trust it so they can target you with crap you actually WILL purchase and profit from it... You couldn't offer Microsoft any amount of cash like for example the 100 bucks they receive for a software piracy catch vs 6 years ahead of you buying things from them... or the raw data they can get in regards to trends and habits

and I joke because... everyone is embarrassed of whatever sexual tweaks they have and everyone tells lies and exaggerates and we are all freaks in some way or an other so sorry for the penis jokes... But that's why 99% of people care "dirty" little secrets and minor crimes...

It is... not in Microsoft best financial interests or Googles to loose that advertising buck... this is all the competition between them and Facebook for that data tracking and that advertising, it's Billions of dollars and no one is interested in any of us personally.

Define "good causes."

Bill Gates' "good causes" through vaccines have caused sterility throughout the world, have condemned kids to paralysis, and have been forced upon poor populations.

Look it up. Just search "Bill Gates vaccines" and you'll find everything you need.

Bill Gates is a twisted psychopath whose been corrupted by forces of darkness. Sad but true story.

Katherine Albrecht: Windows 10 Is Full Blown Electronic Tyranny

www.youtube.com...

Folks, if you value your privacy and you have Windows 10 you should remove it as soon as possible.

When you agree to windows TC, you are agreeing for them to turn on your microphone. Windows 10 has a keyboard program that records all your information, including emails, your financial information, your online Banking, letters you have wrote, your online shopping, all your web searches. If you are having a company meeting and your computer is in the same room it is recording everything that is said. if you are discussion a new product, people on the other end have all your information before you go public. Windows 10 records everything you type and what you say in your room. And the people snooping in your computer, NSA can back up all your information and use it how they want too.

Also stop using G-mail and Google.

Please take the time and Liston to the above video.

From what Katherine Albrecht says, she believes Microsoft is going to remove some of these features in a newer version because to many people found out and are removing windows 10 and are installing Win 7.

Is anyone using Windows 10 on ATS? and why?

a notice for windows 10 showed up one day on my computer I think it was in may.I haven't downloaded anything that has to do with it but I don't know how to remove the icon.
I have another question since we are talking about computers for anyone who may know more about them than I do which is probably everyone, lol. One day in the spring I had whats called "command prompt" show up all by itself(turned it on and there it was) I don't have a clue as to why or what it's doing on my computer.I do know it's something to do with easy access to files that's about it.I tried to look it up but it was all gobbly gook to me.
anyone?

At around the 28 minute mark she sort of debunks everything she has said.
She goes on and on about Microsoft tracking your every move while on your computer, tells us to revert back to old operating systems, then admits they are working on a move private Windows 10.

If Windows really wanted to track our every move, they would sneak in some sort of software in the automatic updates, even on W7 or 8 or 10, this whole thing about giving W10 away is making me start to think they are simply just releasing an unfinished version of the OS and instead of giving it away to a handful of people, they are offering it to everyone.
Because face it, if they did follow the same procedures that they have in the past, it would go live with all sorts of issues, and those people who did get an early copy would have thrown it on torrent sites, pirating sites, duplicates, etc. Microsoft is simply just taking out the middle man.
This offer is only for a year, plenty of time for people to be lab rats until they come out with a patch that takes away all the tracking.

It's free for a couple reasons. They need to move people off Windows 7 and Windows 8. They need to compete with Apple and Google who are on a similar model. And there is a need to track the populace for marketing and law enforcement. Windows 10's big feature is Cortana. When you turn on Cortana you get a message that for her to work she needs to monitor your location, location history, voice, contacts, web history, and full contents of emails and messages and other information from your device.

It's pretty obvious how this stuff works. Get people to agree by wrapping it in a pretty package and make it free. But it's not free. You pay with your 4th Amendment right. You pay by giving up your privacy. Soon the voice activation won't be software based, it'll be on the Intel chip itself, so listening in won't be able to be disabled.

Microsoft has already cooperated with NSA before to spy on Americans. Now they come up with this. Not even worth debating.

I posted earlier on how having Windows 7/8 wont stop the level of collection/monitoring that Windows 10 includes.

Well, here is an article about the updates to Windows 7/8 that will install the same level of monitoring of Windows 10. The updates are optional...for now

www.techworm.net...

Microsoft is pushing KB3075249 and KB3080149 updates for Windows 7/8/8.1 users which can spy on you Windows 10 has been launched and already installed by more than 50 million users worldwide. It is now a known fact that Windows 10 user data is being reported back to Microsoft servers back in Redmond. The jury is still out whether this a good or bad practice but many of Windows 10 Apps like Cortana depend on getting your preferences correct to serve you better. This being the case, many Windows users who are not happy with Windows 10 spying ways and have preferred to stay on with Windows 7/Windows 8 and Window 8.1 as the case might be. For these Windows 7/8/8.1 users there are a few updates which Microsoft has been pushing through last few days.

I imagine we'll be seeing lots of news articles to calm our fears about the privacy invasion of Windows 10. They will address the fears and then present the idea that it's not as bad as it sounds, and it can all be disabled. But note, in none of those articles will they reference the truth that Microsoft has already worked with the NSA in the recent past to spy on Americans. No, the attitude of the articles will either be "silly people, there is nothing to fear here and you can always disable these features" or "I was worried too, until I looked deeper and saw there is nothing unusual here." They will all include plugs for Cortana mentioning her benefits and that's just the way the sh*t is delivered.

Shhhhh... forget what you know... silly people... and your silly fears.... You can trust us.

So the Windows 10 icon is driven by a MS update. If you go to control panel > programs and features > and then click on the Windows Updates option, you will get a list of updates. In the upper-right corner there is a search window. In that, type: KB3035583. Click on it and choose remove and once gone, reboot. That will get rid of the update icon.

Can also get there via control panel > windows updates > installed updates.

As far as the command prompt, it's just something called cmd that is being run on startup (if it shows up every time). You can click on start and then type in msconfig and go to startup items, to find it there. You can check it so it doesn't start on boot. Kind of odd it's a startup item though.
