Teachers separate kids into groups for different reasons.

It was more common when I was in school in the late seventies and early eighties to be grouped together by the first letter of our last names.

That didn't make me feel alone or isolated or divided.

I hear you, I just don't see the issue here. We need to worry about kids learning to read and write and do basic calculations more than pink elephants and purple ponies.

But, on the other hand, there are kids who are not "either/or" ... I can't see why such non-harmful non-intrusive changes would be so ... notable.

I guess they should all go to the same bathroom and shower in gym class together as well?

I would have been all for that in High school..

Mike Huckabee is that you?

I don't mind gender equality.

Where did I say that allowances can't be made if circumstance require, and allow for it? Don't think I did...ever. That would be hypocritical of me since at points in my life I was a "special needs" child with speech impairments, not major but did require for a while allowances to be made.

I'm just having trouble understanding why, in general, re-labeling (which is a horrible way to put it, I'm going to stop using it...), make that re grouping (which really isn't much better...), anyway... How is that going to help? Perhaps I'm being excessively dense (hush...), but I'm just not seeing it.

Ok, you're going to have to do a bit better than that. He wasn't American. He was clearly Italian.

On that we are in total agreement.

About time, huh?

I'm gay and I even think this is stupid. I don't even like being lumped into the LGBT community. Being gay is not all of who I am, its not my total identity. I don't always agree with what they are pushing.

This is why we have to draw the line in the sand.

We all can identify with subgroups in our society, whether because of color, race, culture, shared likes, or members of a forum. Identifying with a group does not mean you agree with everything they say or do. Yet people constantly lump all members of our society that they "think" can be identified as a member of a group, as all being one and the same. They even think because someone stands up and says something assinine, that they are speaking for everyone they have thrown into that group. They are not, they are speaking for themselves.

The next argument is going to be, why don't you stop them. If it was so easy to stop this madness, then explain how we got to this place, and why are we still in free fall?

I think we'll mess kids up even more if we start slapping labels on them.

Treat them all as kids.

Just kids. Nothing more, nothing less.

For gods sake, they'll all get screwed up enough anyway when they enter high school. Let them have a few years of peace.

Where did I say you said that? We're having a conversation, I'm not cutting and pasting every word.

Maybe I'm being dense as well. LOL. Maybe I'm already aware that gender differences can be fluid for some, and it doesn't make a difference to me. I don't think calling for the "kids in green" on this side and "kids in blue" on this side is going to undermine the innate structure of American society the way some here are implying it will (and you are not doing that, to be clear).

I just don't get what the big difference is. But I can understand why "boy and girl" would be hurtful if you know you're not really either. What does the intersex kid do ... stand in the middle of the room? Pretend to be "one or the other"?

It's rare, but it happens. Not to mention other trans* identities.

The free fall is the result of the gay socialist Marxist agenda perpetuated by the tyrant homosexual muslim Obama. The fires of Hell will rain down upon us when Jesus returns to save those worthy of everlasting glory. Praise be to Lord!

Because if you ban the words boy and girl, your kid cannot identify. So your little boy who identifies as a girl ... can't. My boy who identifies as a boy ... can't.

You are effectively trying to remove gender and social engineer identification out of the equation.

Who said this was a ban? It is a suggestion for less divisive language not for removing gender. Remove or avoid the words black, Hispanic, Asian, etc., from language in no way eliminates a person being a part of that group. It does eliminate them being classified, categorized or segregated as such.

So we want to FURTHER separate and divide and "specialize"?

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.
