Why can't ATS arrange comment replies in staggered form like reddit? Have that option at least.

I've found that after years on this site, i just haven't been visiting. Partly because the content isn't the best anymore. Certainly not like how it was a few years ago.

I'm always on other sites now, and my favorite thing is how I can KEEP UP WITH THE CONVERSATION. I get sick of scrolling and searching here to see who replied to a certain comment. Then inserting the comment text a million times by different commenters just makes the thread impossibly long.

Can we have the option to view a thread with staggered sub form replies like on other sites? Am I the only one?

Go back to the other sites if you like them so much.

If I get it, when you click on "a reply to _____" in a post it displays that content but you have to go looking for the post itself?

I agree with that part, something that got lost in the changeover.

I personally hate staggered form reply logs..
A topic is one long form conversation here.
It's easier to comprehend.

It's also generally how forums work.

the word forum is not an internet specific word.

This is a perfect example of why the content is lacking here.

Do you speak to friends, family, and coworkers this way when they ask a question?

If it were collapsible, it wouldn't be an issue for me. It would be great to collapse the sub comment threads I don't care for. A lot of the comments here, we can certainly agree I'm sure, can be overlooked. Same as anywhere. It's not always a conversation here. Rarely actually. It's usually a few people going back and forth with each other, not 5-6 people bouncing back and forth.

We can agree on the character of ATS,
but that's it so far in this "thread."

wait nvm, also that other poster was rude. We agree on that too.

Actually, recently I've noticed that the other person's text you are replying to shows up above the reply box. Like right now typing this, I can see your post, even though your post wasn't the last one made. I think they finally fixed that. I am on an iPad though.

What I was alluding to was the fact that if the thread is so long and you reply to someone, say on page 1 and now the thread is 15 pages, you will want to include their comment text so people can understand your reply. Then it has to be coped to your reply....just adding more length to the entire thread.

I agree.

Slashdot has been doing this for years.

Perhaps a 'narrative flow' format could be set as a personal preference?

Shouldn't be too hard to code.

It's why I always press quote.. and then delete the quoted text.

You are right though I didn't notice they fixed that.

Cool.

Yes it definely shouldn't be hard to code. Adding it to preferences would be a amazing. Sometimes I just want to find out the answer to a certain question, and I don't want to search through 20 pages to finally find the end of that specific conversation. It's frustrating.

There was a time when the quote button was not no easy. I'm glad they added the ease of that feature, but again, sometimes it makes everything so, so, so long. Then important things get TDLRd, not flagged, and great threads are missed.

it's always been easy.. I'm confused.. (they gave me permission to have new account)
And I edit peoples posts down to respond only to bits..

Actually if people read the T and C you are not supposed to keep quoting long azz posts.

Imagine just this amount of quoting gets done by 9 people. It gets long. I adds up to pages full. It's not excessive, but I think it takes away from reading more and contributing more. Also having it staggered lessens the chance someone chimes in with something someone already said. Just my opinions!

That would be just terrible. Reddit confused the heck out. I just can't keep up with what you kids are doing nowadays.

You don't have to quote people...

And I don't think you guys are realizing what this thread would look like..
Just this short thread.. Would be a big tree..

reddit looks like absolute trash.

Reddit looks like trash to the eye because they are lacking a sleek design. It's all text. They don't have profile pictures and what not, no colors or pictures inserted.

I think it's totslly possible to use that outline, but to beef it up nicely. I'm not saying its for everyone, but it would be great as an option on preferences. If the site saw people using that option more, they could make it look cleaner and nicer.

I would just be ok with a crappy looking version just to sort through the bigger, noteworthy threads. An option to turn on for some threads and then turn off.

You can't be too old. Even your user name says KID.

I'm nearing my 30s, so I wouldn't say I'm super Internet savvy either.
