Shots fired; demonstrators scatter in Ferguson

A demonstration along West Florissant Avenue in Ferguson, Missouri, has been disrupted by gunfire.

Shots rang out just after 11:15 p.m. Sunday. It was unclear where the shots came from. It wasn't immediately clear whether anyone was hit.

Protesters who had gathered in the street fled in multiple directions, hiding behind cars and taking cover in buildings.

A police helicopter appeared overhead, shining a spotlight down on the street. Dozens of police cars and an armored vehicle converged on the area.

Not sure if this has been posted already but thanks again to Windows this flashed across my laptop again, I thought it was a peaceful protest going down this time? I know before it was pretty much looting and rioting but the parents if I remember correctly said they would continue but make it peaceful.

edit: that "someone" may not be dead. Michael Skolnik, who I generally trust, had said he heard a woman screaming, "why did you kill my boyfriend?" so for now nothing is certain.

Shots are fired there every day. Tonight it's probably just some guy wanting to brag to his buddies about how he caused gullible CNN to do a 1/2 hour special "Breaking News!!" report on the shot he fired into the air...or even worse, at a fellow African American.

Thank you very much I thought it was just going to be an ordinary protest it seems like I was rather wrong on this one.

There is no way the parents could promise a peaceful rally or protest, they cannot ensure that promise at all. Did the have a permit to protest? Nowhere in the article says that it was planned and the court system knew about it. Therefore they were dumb for trying and idiots for staging this event.

Do I think it is right for needing a license to stage a protest or rally? No, but unplanned protests (peaceful or not) can go awry without invocation from a police force. So then who is to blame? The organizers, the people, the cause? Plus I don't think it was Ferguson police who opened fire, if anything it was Government or within the protest community.

It also states that the new city judge, chief of police, and city manager are all black now that all white ones were let go. So how is any of this race related?

The victim looks to be face down and handcuffed. That implies that the police were involved on some level. I don't think they would cuff a dying victim unless that person was either actively shooting or just got shot by the cops.

Wow a black cop, so what is racist when a black cop is telling a black person to obey the law? Black lives matter, so does that cops life matter?

Follow the St Louis PD twitter feed too; they have images of a police car allegedly shot up tonight. I just read that the person in the above video was put into an ambulance alive. He may not be dead, they're also saying. As usual, confusion is the law.

I must have missed that part did they show him being taken away or anything akin to that? When I came in I saw the line of officers and then the "Journalist" was giving a recap of what had happened. I don't think I heard anything about anyone handcuffed though.

I have seen multiple videos on Ytube of victims being handcuffed after they were shot, the reason I believe is to show that they were supposed to be in custody but resisted arrest. Iv'e seen a guy shot in the throat and bleeding everywhere and the cop still handcuffs him.

Jeez, let's hope this isn't anything which will ignite a new wave of protests. And that's very late at night to be out protesting (I know, I know, first amendment rights and all....but probably not too many old folks are out at that hour so it may have turned into a party/gathering situation). Will follow this with "knocking on wood" interest that the person shot is not badly hurt, and things end well.

I think we saw the same video. The kid appears to be dead or dying and is laying face down with his hands apparently cuffed behind him.

FTR the streamers latest Tweet, when I looked, was "I am under arrest".

If the police were involved or suspected the kid of a crime, he would be cuffed - even if mortally wounded. The fact that he is cuffed seems to imply that the police were, in some way, involved with whatever transpired that led to him being shot - on some level.

It could turn out that it was a gun fight between two civilians and the police showed up. Or it could play out differently.

So nowhere else in the world besides America do Drugs exist? Pharmaceuticals? What would any other small group of unarmed people do against armed groups of State sponsored terrorism? You don't even know the full story behind this man. He could have fired rounds, pointed a gun, had a warrant, fleed restraint, or was aggressive towards police at any point, noone knows. What would another country do to save a man already shot and surrounded by Police and helicopters? Try to save him? To have everyone else shot? Your an idiot to think that this only happens in America.

Ah I may have missed that then as I turned back to the another tab for a moment and was listening in for a while. The tweet also solidifies it seems.
