In fact, this mysterious structure is so colossal that it could shatter our current understanding of the cosmos.

That's what she said.

I thought we already pretty much knew all there was to know about the universe?

The sheer size of...whatever this is is hard to fathom.

The Great Sloan wall is 1.4 billions light years in length and that's made up of a clusters of galaxies instead of just nine.

It's hard to see, literally. Maybe gravitational lensing caused by something in between us and the source could've caused a.. mirage? I don't know I'm not that clever. Maybe dark matter can explain why only nine galaxies can appear to span a large area of the universe.

What scientist has ever claimed that?

OMG!!!!!

They FOUND!!!! a Glitch in Hologram Universe!

well some scientist think we live in a Hologram Universe !

therefore We, life on earth, solars systems, Stars, Galeaxs, Clusters, etc are not Real ! just imitations of the real
thing .. we are the programs Tron and they are the programers.. Flynt

Is it real? Physicists propose method to determine if the universe is a simulation

One-Ninth the size of the known universe and we're just now "seeing" it? How do you not see a 500 pound gorilla that been in the room with you your whole life?

What struck me about the article is that if this thing is real, it contradicts our expectations that on really large scales the dispersion of matter in the universe is uniform. Maybe that is still true and we simply haven't realized how much bigger the universe is than our current theories. (Talking in first person plural not because I am astronomer)

GRBs are the brightest electromagnetic events known to occur in the universe, caused by a supernova. Their detection typically indicates the presence of a galaxy, so all of the GRBs in this ring are believed to each come from a different galaxy.

What? Wait a min..so they dont even know if this 'structure' exists yet. they are just guessing based on some other readings they have found?

I think its a bit premature to throw out the standard model based on the existence of something that hasn't even been seen yet...

Why dont people on ATS read these reports properly before believing the first thing they are told?

The black holes at the center of those galaxies must be humongous.

Just ask niki minaj!!

The James Webb Space Telescope is scheduled to bring back it's first data in late 2018. When that happens we'll be able to view the very first stars created after the big bang. The light it will receive will be billions of years old...so the images of stars and galaxies it creates will be the baby pictures of our universe.

If you don't know about the JWST I suggest you google it. The most amazing project that I'm proud to say I was involved with.

It has many missions, but it's first priority is to see the first stars. To do this, it will set it's sights towards where Hubble looked for the famous "Deep Field" image which after using a year long exposure time found over 10,000 galaxies in the darkest visible universe. The JWST is so powerful that it is going to search the darkest void in the region of "Deep Field", but with only a month of exposure time it will be able to see the first light.

Exciting times we're living in people.

Referring to it as a structure makes it sound much more extraordinary than it really is.

If the 9 galaxies are moving together.
it will make a super massive black hole.
that will suck all the rest of the universe in.

but dont hold your breath
the sun will be dead long before that.

if it did suck it all in and then blow up
it would be a BIG bang.
they would woulder what happened before it.
I bet this has happen a infinit times.

Interesting you should ask about numerics' I teach Religion/Philosophy and the significance of 9 has metaphysical import in Gematria. The ninth letter in the Hebrew alefbet is tet - ט. The letter tet - ט has the numerical value of nine. The least common letter in the Torah is a Tet. Tet ט, represents the 9th sefirah, yesod - יסוד (meaning foundation).
The Gemara[9] teaches us that whoever prays on the eve of Shabbat and recites vayechulu, it is as if he is a partner with HaShem in the act of creation. It is noteworthy that the word vayechulu in mispar katan equals nine. Shabbat in mispar katan equals nine, and the word emet, truth, in mispar katan equals nine. Thus, one who recites vayechulu is testifying to the truth that HaShem created Adam and the world in six days and that HaShem rested on Shabbat.
Unbelievably, we find that any number times nine equals nine (18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63 etc), in mispar katan. The reason being that the pasuk says
Mishlei (Proverbs) 12:19 The lip of truth (Emet) shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Emet, truth, lasts for ever. Therefore every multiple of nine remains a nine. Truth always remains the same and can never be altered. Similarly, HaShem is true from beginning to end. So perhaps we can see that this cluster of nine galaxies is a foundation for the remaining eight? But 8 is connected to infinity, and how deep can this all become?

Before anybody taught me science or cosmology, I understood there was a "green-5" and a "red-9" two different cosmos influences up there that circled above every year. There is also a "blue-7". It's indigo child terminology, lacking science, don't judge me; I think I was 2 years old stacking those colored rings when this idea came around. In imagination, green-5 was light with a green outline, red-9 was dark with a red outline, and the latter was greater than the former, and they both came from about the same direction in the heavens.

I don't know which one their findings correlate to my experiences. Red-9 is a powerhouse of galactic energy, it might be dark. When I was younger I understood it as the influence of the mythological deity Sin. In imagination, the blue-7 was Enlil, you know as Lucifer, and I'm not sure what green-5 was associated with back then, maybe Enki or some other sumerian powerhouse name. Epic galactic storytime genetic memory style, different per culture as you are born.

Turn that graphic of the cosmos upside down in the article, that would represent my perceptions well, it'd be red-9. There are two other big ones out there then, I believe. Spread out in the graphic, but from the surface of the earth that energy is very focused.

The article in the OP isn't very useful.
It's more like in this picture.
www.ras.org.uk...
So basically they're just a bunch of gamma ray bursts that they think kinda look like they're somehow brothers and sisters...like share some connection.
I'm not yet buying it..those gamma ray bursts are hug , each on it's own, but at the scale of the universe they're still tiny tiny specs of dust. How they coudl be linked when each is actually the remnants of stars turned into big fat black holes...the're thousands more like them.
My best guess is they stumbled on the stargate network...indeed.

Edit: quite a few people are saying it's hard to see how such a large thing could be 1/9th the size of the universe or whatever...it's not.
Look at the rticle i linked above, they're just suffering from wishful thinking...there is no structure, no ''thing'' they've discovered, nothing to see or photograph, just them connecting a bunch of random dots that in reality probably mean nothing.

Another click bait scientist waffle.

"structure" in the mainstream casual mind isn't "well, these galaxies are sort of in a straight line, a huge gas cloud here and there".

But let's intentionally call it a "structure" like it's a bridge, make a huge hyperbole article no it "WOW" then berate anyone that calls us out on it.

Am I right or AmIRite?
