I know Alex City quite well. It's along the highway (US 280) between Birmingham and home... a route I take regularly.
The city has been through hell. It lived, thrived and depended on Russell Athletic for a long, long time. It employed a huge number of people but...
like so many others, it up and moved to China. The vast complex that once manufactured their brand is today largely empty and those facilities still
in operation, are mostly for storage.
What does this have to do with the story?
Nothing... except that such racism and hatred
- of which there is NO excuse - is only fed all-too-well under the circumstances.
I love this state but stuff like this is more than a little humiliating... and quite saddening.
