The shadow of the Earth isn't visible in these images. A synodic month, the time it takes the moon to make one orbit around the Earth with respect to the sun, is 29.530589 days. The images cover a span of 4 hours and 55 minutes (0.204861 days). So if the moon covers 360° of arc in 29.530589 days, that means it covers only 2.497° in the 0.204861 days shown in the images. How much do you think the features on the moon would change with two and a half degrees of rotation?

The launch of DSCOVR

That's a lot of money (and fuel) to spend on faking a launch.

Tracking data for the satellite (such as it is): www.n2yo.com...#

Is it conceivably possible these images are fake? Sure. I'm agnostic about most things. I can't even prove I'm sitting here typing this technically.

I can't assert to someone with 100% certainty that the images are not fake or that it's definitely up there. I also can't assert with 100% that the moon isn't made of cheese since I haven't been there either. And I have no desire to disabuse people of their beliefs. If someone has concluded that they're fake and won't be swayed from that view, so be it. I can respect their right to an opinion.

However, personally, I do hold opinions on probabilities at least. And with the available evidence, the greatest probability in my personal opinion is that the satellite is indeed up there, and that these images are indeed real. Could I be wrong? Certainly.

Peace.

Excellent post. I happen to disagree with your conclusion but your humbleness and realization to a possible manipulation are refreshing.

No work can be accomplished without atmosphere. 0 atmosphere produces 0 work if one were to follow the equation. Newton's 3rd law relies on work being accomplished.

Not very much rotation at all in two and a half degrees of arc traveled. My next question then is what shadow is the moon leaving as it enters the frame and what shadow is the moon entering as it leaves the frame. a reply to: nataylor

That's the edge of the telescope tube of the imager.

This video disproves Newton's Third law in an earth-based experiment:

www.youtube.com...

No he didn't.

Please, refrain from insults as I've never seen a valid answer about rocketry working in space and this ususally ends in an insult contest.

Then your not looking in the right places.

sorry not buying it...a reply to: nataylor

Well, I had to go back and watch again...

I would say that it is possible that is the side of the telescope tube.

That's OK, because I'm not selling it. I'm giving it away.

But that's exactly what it is. The square of the image sensor is bigger that the circle projected on the sensor by the telescope optics, so the corners aRE obscured by the telescope tube.

Here's an illustration. The square represents the image sensor. The circle is the projected image from the telescope optics:

It's fake because I called it fake.

Well there you have it...time to close this thread and put it in the hoax bin.

Amazing.

What a twisted world you live in.

Ironic, this coming from the person who thinks all pics of Earth are fake.

Secondly, you talk as if you jetpack around deep space. Do you?

WHy does one have to for knowledge of space?

I haven't been to the North Pole, but I know it exists because people have actually been there...so your argument there is a fail.

Thanks for the civil discussion and helpful demeanor. A fine example that should be followed by more people on ATS. a reply to: nataylor

You can't honestly think this is going to be proof of anything for the person claiming that unless they do something themselves it's not real..

Incoming reply of "video can be faked and since I didn't actually film it then it has to be fake"

Work = pressure x change in volume.

Now, instead of posting cartoons and videos answer how such is accomplished in space. Or feel free to post condescending gifs too if you'd like

The cartoon was to make it as simple as possible for you to understand.

Actually it has been shown to work, so it is your burden to prove they can't...
