I have just heard about this from a colleague in England. Eric died in Italy 17th July 2015, aged 68. This came as a shock to me since we were band colleagues '66-'67 or so in the beat group era. I hadn't seen him since six or seven years ago, and that was here in Newcastle, ( at that time he was getting over a broken leg, but still perfoming) other than that he spent much of his time in Germany and Holland. Eric didn't stay with either Them or Thin Lizzy for any length of time, but it was he who coined the names for both bands. Eric and I both have contributions together on the Lloyd studios produced, 'Belfast beat, the Maritime blues' compilation, literally something we both walked into along with the rest of the band.

The video below is a get together with Eric on harmonica and Them's original guitarist Billy Harrison, with their decent version of Baby please don't go' (you may need to up your volume)
R.I.P. Eric.

That may be a little early, he was found dead in bed, but apparently his health had not been great, in which way I don't know.
