Teenager dies from Nitrous Oxide....UK now wants to ban it.

A teenager believed to have taken so-called laughing gas at a party in south-east London has died.

The government plans to ban the sale of legal highs, which would include nitrous oxide.

While the USA is slowly relaxing its war on the drugs the UK is now going full retard and wants to even ban simple laughing gas.

Surely the government cant be stupid enough to think prohibition is working? Now instead of Laughing gas these kids will likely huff paint like the fools in my day or get into a harder drug. Great work Theressa May! Our overstretched police force that are sick of enforcing our failing drug laws will love you even more now!

Stupid kids get high by sniffing glue and huffing paint too, so when do we ban those? And let's not forget that you can get high from banana peels and moldy bread as well, so we had better outlaw all fruits and all bread products just to be safe...

I used to get that stuff during dental visits.
It sure made the dentist experience much more pleasurable.

If Cameron has his way he will take away our encryption capabilities and start handing out gaol sentences of 10 years for simple copyright infringement. So i ask what chance does Nitrous Oxide have? And isn't that the stuff our dentists used to employ as an anesthetic and that also increase the power output somewhat regarding internal combustion engines?

It wasn't the nitrous oxide which caused the death.
It was the lack of oxygen. Fill your lungs with N2O and there's no room for O2. No room for CO2 either, so there is no feeling of suffocation.

People have died doing the same thing with helium, on purpose.

There was an article on Vice.com recently that covered this topic. They made the point that nobody has died from just the gas. The deaths have tended to involve other substances or, more often, the casualty was using some novel apparatus to get high with.

I'm reminded of that politician who died from taking amyl (poppers) a few years ago. Was it the poppers or was it the orange he had stuffed in his mouth that he'd injected a lot of poppers into??

Funnily enough, I've seen the cartridges on the streets of Liverpool city centre this year. I'd assumed that young scallies had been firing off air pistols. Nope, seems more likely to be clubbers hitting the laughing gas.

Nitrous Oxide mixed with oxygen is safe, no oxygen and you die, young people don't know this when inhaling, mixed with alcohol it's a stupid idea that has become a trend.

Stupid often kills...

It would be interesting to know how many teenagers die each week from alcohol. I imagine it's more than those that die from legal highs.

Where are the calls to ban alcohol

We used to get tanks for afterparties along with the huge balloons. Sell off the balloon for a buck a pop. You'd hear people pass out and often go blue from it, sometimes seizing and quit breathing for a half minute or so. I seriously doubt people don't die off it, else they're not sucking it in enough to get the required dose to kill them off. From what I witnessed, it was a risk of death everytime you took in enough to potentially seize out. I mean I saw it happen every time a tank was around. Didn't stay in that scene long enough, but am fairly certain at least one person died from that. I know another person who got tanks for himself, went at it for a few months, lost his ability to talk right, and his motor movements went to #. That kills a hell of a lot of brain cells each time. Not worth it.
